Verdict: The Homebody Couch makes the most sense if you want a deep, modular lounge sofa with discreet powered recliners and built-in charging, and you have enough room for its substantial footprint. It is less compelling if your priority is a low price, compact proportions, white-glove delivery, or a simple return process.
The current Luxe two-seat listing combines removable covers, configurable modules, adjustable cushions, hidden recliners and USB/USB-C charging. The trade-offs are a listed price of $3,740, a full recline footprint that is much deeper than the closed sofa, and delivery and assembly concerns reported in a 2022 Architectural Digest review. Treat the current product page as the authority for today’s dimensions and purchase terms.

What the Homebody Couch is
Homebody sells the Luxe as a modular sofa system rather than one fixed frame. You can configure it as a sofa or sectional and add reclining seats where needed. Modules connect without tools, so the layout can be changed or expanded more easily than a conventional one-piece couch.
The defining feature is concealment. The recliner mechanism sits inside selected seats instead of giving the sofa an obvious theater-seat appearance. That combination explains the product’s appeal: one piece of furniture can support ordinary sitting, long movie sessions, naps and charging without a side table. It also explains the compromises. More mechanisms, wiring and modular joints add cost and weight, and the sofa needs careful room planning even though the recliner is designed to hug the wall.

A separate 2022 Architectural Digest review measured a tested two-seat configuration at 90.56 inches wide, 39.7 inches deep and 37 inches high. That configuration is not identical to the current listing, so do not treat the two sets of numbers as a contradiction or as one timeless specification. Measure the exact modules in your order.
How comfortable is it?
Seat feel and lounging
Elaheh Nozari’s Architectural Digest review, published September 29, 2022, described the seat as a firm-but-squishy balance. The reviewer rated comfort A+ and found it suitable for naps, not merely short periods of upright sitting. That is a useful distinction for a lounge sofa: the cushioning has enough give for reclining without feeling like a mattress that swallows you.

Nozari, who is 5 feet 8 inches tall, reported that her feet did not touch the floor when she sat back against the cushions. That can feel pleasantly relaxed for some people and too deep for others. If you are shorter, plan to test the seat with a footstool or ottoman; if you are taller, the depth may feel more natural.
Back cushions and daily appearance
The back cushions are loose rather than tightly fixed. Nozari said they needed daily fluffing to look orderly. This is a maintenance task, not a defect: loose cushions can be repositioned for lounging, but they also migrate and show compression more readily than attached backs. Expect to straighten them after naps, children’s play or repeated reclining.

Kayti Christian’s May 21, 2025 review in The Good Trade covered a five-seat sectional with recliners and an ottoman in a multigenerational home. The reviewer disclosed receiving the sofa for review, praised it as a family-lounging surface and described the fabric as practical for lived-in use. Christian also acknowledged the high price and said the purchase might not have felt justified without receiving the product. That perspective is particularly relevant to shoppers comparing a premium modular system with several ordinary sofas.

Three operating positions
Homebody describes three recliner positions: Seated, Relaxed and Zero Gravity Wellness Mode. The adjustable headrest lets you support your neck without forcing the entire seat into its deepest position. Controls and charging ports are integrated into the seat area, so you can keep a phone or tablet powered without running a cable across the floor.

Wall clearance versus room clearance
The features page calls the mechanism wall-hugging and says it needs zero inches of clearance behind the sofa to recline. That statement applies to the gap between the back of the sofa and the wall. It does not mean the room can be only the sofa’s closed depth. When occupied, the recliner extends forward to the full-recline dimension listed in the specifications table, and Homebody recommends leaving space for a coffee table in front.
Before ordering, mark the closed sofa and the fully occupied recliner on the floor with painter’s tape. Walk the route from the sofa to the doorway, television, kitchen or bathroom while the larger outline is in place. This catches conflicts that a wall-clearance claim cannot address, including a coffee table that blocks the footrest or a walkway narrowed by an ottoman.

The covers are removable, but the correct cleaning method depends on the upholstery. Homebody states that linen and pet-friendly covers may be machine washed cold with mild detergent and line dried. Velvet covers should not be machine washed; the manufacturer prefers dry cleaning for that fabric.
Do not assume that “removable” means every cover can go into a washing machine. Check the fabric selected on your order, remove only the labeled covers, use the recommended temperature and allow them to dry completely before reinstalling. Shrinkage or distortion can make a cover difficult to refit.

Homebody also says its performance fabrics carry OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification. That is a manufacturer statement about textile certification. It does not, by itself, establish the sofa’s overall durability, stain-proofing performance or environmental impact.
Modularity, assembly and configuration choices
The modular design is useful when a sofa must pass through tight access points or when a household may change its layout. Individual sections can be brought through a doorway and connected inside the room. It also lets you choose where reclining seats go instead of committing every seat to the same mechanism.

Homebody describes the assembly as tool-free. In practice, plan for two people if possible: modules are bulky, and aligning connectors while protecting floors is easier with help. Keep every packaging piece until you have inspected the sofa and decided to keep it, because the current return terms require the original packaging or charge for replacement packaging.
The Architectural Digest reviewer’s 2022 experience shows why expectations matter. The reviewer assembled a two-seat couch alone in about 90 minutes, initially found the instructions unclear, and received curbside delivery rather than room placement. That is one dated account, not a guarantee of how every current order will arrive, but it argues for arranging help and checking the delivery scope in writing.

Delivery, trial and return terms
At the time of access, Homebody’s two-seat listing showed an estimated 2–4 week ship time and free shipping in the contiguous United States. The page offered a 14-day in-home trial. Returns within 14 days of delivery had no return-shipping fee, but the original packaging was required; if it was unavailable, Homebody stated that replacement packaging would incur a $250 fee.
These terms deserve a final check immediately before purchase. A 2025 Domino roundup mentioned a 100-day trial, which conflicts with the current official two-seat listing. The manufacturer’s live listing or direct confirmation from Homebody should control your decision, not an older editorial roundup or a cached sale page.
Delivery reliability is the largest unresolved risk in the available firsthand evidence. In the 2022 Architectural Digest account, the carrier missed the scheduled appointment, could not initially locate the couch, delivered it 13 days after the first expected date and left it curbside. The reviewer also reported unclear assembly instructions. Because those events are from 2022, use them to prepare questions rather than to predict your own shipment: ask whether delivery is curbside or room-of-choice, whether appointment windows are guaranteed, and who handles damage claims.
Room-planning and access checklist
- Measure the final configuration. Use the exact module combination, not a generic “two-seater” label. Include arms, ottomans and any side tables.
- Map the reclined position. Tape the full forward extension on the floor and preserve the manufacturer’s recommended table clearance.
- Check the route. Measure the narrowest doorway, hallway, elevator, stair landing and turn. Include door thickness and trim.
- Protect the floor. Arrange moving blankets or sliders before delivery; curbside placement may leave you responsible for the final move.
- Plan electrical access. The charging ports are built into the sofa, but the sofa still needs a safe outlet route for its powered recliners. Avoid pinching the cord under a module.
- Keep packaging. Retain cartons and protective materials through the trial period in case a return is necessary.

Look elsewhere if
- Your room cannot accommodate the fully reclined footprint and a usable walkway.
- You need guaranteed room-of-choice delivery or professional assembly.
