Berger Paints Jamaica Limited is defending its position in Jamaica through product changes, higher production capacity and expanded specialist retail, according to a report published by The Jamaica Gleaner on April 4, 2025. The report put the company’s share at about 52 per cent, based on “current feedback”—an estimate, not an audited market measurement.
What competition is Berger responding to?
The Jamaica Gleaner named BH Paints, Sherwin-Williams, EdgeChem and Diamond Paints as competitors in the Jamaican market. Its report gives no side-by-side data on those companies’ market shares, prices or product quality, so it does not support ranking them against Berger.

The reported estimate of roughly 52 per cent share was attributed to current feedback, but the article did not name an organisation that conducted market research. It should be read as an approximate reported figure, not as a formally sourced market study or a measure of the company’s position today.

Magicote Low Sheen colour range
Berger introduced Magicote Low Sheen after customers raised concerns about the limited colour range of its bargain brand. Williams said the available colours increased from about 15 to 36, as reported by The Jamaica Gleaner. That figure describes the reported expansion; it is not confirmation of current colour availability.
What did Berger invest in production and retail?
More Trowel On capacity
The newspaper reported that Berger invested J$130 million in an upgraded coatings plant, which tripled production capacity for Trowel On. It also described new filling equipment. The report does not specify the plant upgrade’s completion date or provide a before-and-after volume.
