“Timber look” describes the appearance rather than the material: Covet describes the range as aluminium cladding designed to resemble timber. Concealed fixing does not automatically mean that every joint or accessory is hidden. A complete specification still has to address starts, stops, corners, penetrations, expansion movement and future access. Those details are project-specific and are not supplied in the article.
Why an aluminium timber look can suit a renovation
A batten façade changes a building’s visual rhythm through repeated lines, shadow gaps and a chosen wood-like colour. Aluminium allows the designer to pursue that appearance without specifying solid timber for every visible member. A practical specification path for a similar façade
Use the following sequence to turn the project image into a buildable specification. It prevents a finish decision from being made before the support and compliance work is understood.
- Survey the existing elevation. Record wall build-up, framing or masonry, insulation, moisture barriers, window reveals, service penetrations and any areas that cannot accept new fixings. A visual survey alone cannot confirm structural capacity.
- Define the visual field. Mark the exact area to be clad—such as a first floor, gable or entrance volume—and decide whether battens run vertically, horizontally or change direction at a transition. Draw openings and corners at the same scale as the batten profile.
- Select the system by fixing requirement. Kabebari is the listed option when a concealed, direct-fix appearance is desired. Koshi is described as a standard hollow-section range, while Mizotsuki uses an L-bracket-and-bolt support. Do not substitute one fixing method for another without a revised substructure design.
- Obtain the current profile and finish schedule. Ask Covet or the appointed distributor for the exact section, face width, depth, length, colour, texture, accessories and availability. The project article does not state any of those values.
- Coordinate the support and weather layer. Have the installer or building designer document rails, brackets, fasteners, drainage paths, cavity depth, flashings and penetrations. The cladding should not be treated as a complete weatherproofing design by itself.
- Check code and fire requirements for the actual building. Sequence the trades
Confirm whether the battens are installed before or after surrounding surfaces are painted. If battens are installed first, mask and protect them from primer, spray and brush loading. If painting occurs first, leave sufficient access for the cladding crew to install flashings, brackets and end trims without damaging the fresh coating.

Do not assume the battens are paintable
The available product description establishes an aluminium timber-look finish, not a generic paint system. Do not specify field painting, sanding or solvent cleaning until the supplier provides compatible preparation and coating instructions. A finish intended to remain exposed may not accept the same products used on render or timber.
Control colour and sheen transitions
Use sample boards to compare the batten colour with the sheen of nearby painted surfaces. A highly reflective adjacent coating can make a textured, wood-like finish appear darker or lighter than expected. Record the approved sample, colour reference and orientation so touch-up work does not introduce an unplanned variation.

For the original home, the safest interpretation is therefore narrow: the first-floor façade was presented with Covet Kabebari Ever Art Wood battens as a tribute to the home’s past. The visual treatment is documented; the building’s history, design team, dimensions, costs and compliance pathway are not.
