You can add audio to a FlipaClip animation by importing a file stored on your device, recording with your microphone, or choosing an asset from FlipaClip’s audio library. After placing and timing the clip on the timeline, export as MP4 to retain the sound; GIF and PNG Sequence exports do not include audio.
Before you start

Add an audio file to a FlipaClip project
- Open your animation project.
- Tap the audio icon in the lower-left of the animation workspace.
- Tap the red plus button where your device displays one. Some iOS tablet layouts may show audio choices immediately.
- Choose the device-file option. FlipaClip identifies this with a musical-note-plus icon in its iOS instructions and a download icon in its Android instructions.
- Select a local WAV, MP4, M4A, or MP3 file.
- Use the left and right handles to trim the section you want.
- Wait for FlipaClip to process the audio.
- Drag the processed clip onto an audio track and position it on the timeline.
- Tap Play to check timing and volume.

Record narration or dialogue inside FlipaClip
- Open the project’s audio controls and tap +.
- Choose the microphone icon.
- On the recording screen, press and hold the red microphone button.
- Release the button to stop recording.
- Place the clip on the timeline and preview it against the animation.
For clean dialogue, record in a quiet room, keep the device at a consistent distance, and use short lines for precise lip-sync or action timing. If recording will not start, check your operating system’s microphone permission, device mute settings, and whether another app is using the microphone. These are general device troubleshooting steps; the permission path depends on your device.
Use FlipaClip’s audio library
- Open the audio controls.
- Tap +, if required by your layout.
- Choose the music-gallery or audio-library icon.
- Browse available sound effects and themes.
- Select an asset and add it to the project.
Some library assets require a purchase, and FlipaClip Plus includes access to hundreds of library sounds. Check the information shown for each asset rather than assuming every sound is free or has identical licensing terms. See FlipaClip Plus documentation.
Edit, loop, and position an audio clip
FlipaClip’s audio controls let you adjust clips on the timeline:
- Move: Drag the clip along the timeline to change its start time.
- Trim: Tap the clip once to reveal its in and out handles, then drag either handle inward.
- Extend or loop: FlipaClip says audio loops if you drag the handles beyond the original audio length.
- Slice: Tap the clip again to show additional tools. Put the red timeline marker at the cut point and choose the slice control. Edit the resulting segments separately.
- Duplicate, rename, or delete: Tap the clip a second time and choose the relevant tool.
For a footstep, impact, blink, or other precise event, a short separate clip is usually easier to align than one long recording. Keep dialogue, music, and effects on separate tracks when possible. FlipaClip’s current support guidance lists up to six audio tracks on Android and eight on iOS; these limits and labels can vary by app build.

Synchronize sound with the animation
- Identify the visual event that needs sound, such as the frame where a hand touches a surface.
- Move the audio clip’s start point toward that frame on the timeline.
- Use trimming or slicing for frame-sensitive timing.
- Play the animation repeatedly after each timing change.
- After major frame edits, check synchronization again.
On devices that struggle to maintain real-time playback while processing audio, FlipaClip may drop frames during preview. That does not necessarily mean the exported movie will drop those frames. See FlipaClip’s playback troubleshooting article.
Can you add audio for free?

If the ad option appears, follow the in-app instructions. Library assets may have separate purchase or Plus requirements. To see the current plan and price for your region, tap the diamond icon in the top-right of FlipaClip’s main screen; there is no universal price. FlipaClip’s trial guidance describes a seven-day trial generally available once per Apple ID or Google account, subject to app-store eligibility. Check the trial terms before starting one.
Export the animation with sound
- Open the project.
- Tap the Share icon, or open the three-dot menu and choose Make Movie.
- Choose your output settings.
- Select MP4.
- Tap Make a Movie.
- Save or share the completed movie, then play the saved file outside FlipaClip to verify its audio.
MP4 is the audio-preserving choice. GIF exports do not include added sound, and PNG Sequence exports individual images rather than a sound-bearing movie. If the animation plays with audio in FlipaClip but the saved file is silent, export it again as MP4. Follow FlipaClip’s movie-export instructions.
Fix common audio problems
The audio button or import option is missing
Check that you are in the animation workspace and look for the audio icon in the lower-left. If personal import is locked, FlipaClip may require Plus or may offer a rewarded ad. The ad option is conditional, not universal.

The file does not appear
- Download it from cloud storage to local device storage.
- Confirm that it is WAV, MP4, M4A, or MP3.
- Reopen FlipaClip and try the import path again.
- Check file-access permissions.
- Try a short test file to see whether the problem is specific to the original file.
Being signed into a cloud service does not necessarily make its files available offline. See FlipaClip’s offline-use guidance.
The audio will not record
Check microphone permission, device mute settings, and whether another app is using the microphone. Restarting the app and making a short test recording can help isolate a temporary device problem.
The exported movie is silent
Confirm that you chose MP4, not GIF or PNG Sequence. Then play the saved file outside FlipaClip, verify that the clip was not muted, and repeat the export if it did not finish correctly.
Preview playback is choppy
FlipaClip attributes some skipping to device memory and the need to maintain synchronization with audio. Try reducing the canvas size, hiding or deleting unused layers, temporarily muting audio while drawing, and turning off demanding effects such as Blend Mode and Glow. The audio is out of sync after editing frames
Deleting frames or layers does not delete project audio, but it can change visual timing around that audio. Preview after substantial edits and move or slice the clips as needed.
The project or audio is missing on another device
FlipaClip says projects are stored locally and are not automatically synced simply because you signed into an account. Back up important projects before changing devices; the backup should preserve the project and its audio setup. Legacy purchases may not transfer between Android and iOS, while Plus has separate restoration rules. See project backup guidance and premium-feature restoration guidance.

- The audio clip is on the timeline and positioned against the correct frames.
- Music, narration, and effects are audible and not muted.
- Long clips are trimmed, sliced, or looped as intended.
- You previewed after the last frame edit.
- You selected MP4 under Make Movie.
- You played the saved movie outside FlipaClip and confirmed that the sound remains.

Can I add music to FlipaClip?
Yes. Import a local WAV, MP4, M4A, or MP3 file, select a sound from FlipaClip’s library, or record audio with the microphone.
Can I use audio from a video?
FlipaClip lists MP4 among its supported audio formats. If FlipaClip does not recognize the audio through the file picker, extract or convert it using a tool you trust, then import the resulting supported file.
