To attach a standard LEGO minifigure cape, remove the head, place the cape’s neck opening over the neck post at the top of the torso, then replace the head to hold the cape in place.
Attach a standard cape in three steps
- Remove the head. Hold the minifigure securely and lift its head straight off the neck post.
- Position the cape. Place its neck opening over the post, with the fabric hanging behind the torso. LEGO’s assembly diagram shows the cape going onto the torso before the head is attached: LEGO building instructions.
- Replace the head. Press it back onto the post so it holds the cape in place.
The usual cape sits at the neck connection, not over the arms. Avoid forcing an opening that does not fit the post.

Not every cape has the same opening or shape. Catalog descriptions distinguish capes by length, collar and edge shape, number or arrangement of top holes, and material. Some are traditional starched fabric; others are described as spongy, stretchable fabric. Compare the piece with the original cape or the figure’s set details before replacing it. BrickLink’s cape catalog lists many variants.

If a cape has multiple neck holes, a shaped collar, or extra accessory slots, follow the instructions for that specific piece rather than assuming it fits like a standard cape. A specialty cloak may use a different sequence.

Start with the minifigure or set name, the cape’s color, and its distinctive shape. A part number can help, but catalogs may use different identifiers or descriptions for the same piece. Brick Architect’s standard-cape reference cross-references identifiers used by LEGO Pick a Brick, BrickLink, Rebrickable, Brickset, and LDraw.

LEGO’s US Pick a Brick shop lists individual cape elements and multipacks; its selection and stock are region-specific and can change. Check the live listing for your region before choosing a part: LEGO Pick a Brick (US).
Third-party fabric accessories are another option for a custom look, but they are not official LEGO products. Check the seller’s compatibility notes and installation instructions. For example, Minifig Realms says to line up its cloak’s neck holes over the neck stem and describes an additional sheath installation step: Minifig Realms cloak instructions.
