The Enscape Asset Library is now delivered through Chaos Cosmos in Enscape 4.11 and later. You can still browse, download, place, adjust, and save the library content you already use, but new releases are added only to Cosmos. The dependable workflow is to open the library from your modeling context, narrow choices with categories or Collections, inspect an asset before downloading, check scale after placement, and reserve custom imports for content the curated library cannot provide.
What happened to the Enscape Asset Library?
With the release of Enscape 4.11, the Asset Library moved to Chaos Cosmos as its asset-delivery platform. Chaos says existing library content remains available in Cosmos, while new assets are no longer added to older Enscape library versions. This is why two users can see different catalogs even when they are looking for the same item: the installed Enscape version, host application, account entitlement, and plan all matter.

Users on Enscape 4.11 or newer should treat Cosmos as the normal library. The Chaos Help Center page updated September 12, 2025 lists supported product versions, but compatibility can change; check that page against the version installed on your workstation before troubleshooting a missing feature. If you are on an earlier Enscape release, updating is the practical route to new asset releases rather than repeatedly refreshing the legacy browser.
The change is a delivery change, not a requirement to rebuild every scene. Library objects already used in projects remain part of the supported content path described by Chaos. The exact buttons and panel names can vary between host applications, so use the current Cosmos and Enscape documentation when a control in your interface does not match an older screenshot.

How do I open the library from a project?
Open it from the context in which you are modeling. Chaos describes two entry points: the modeling software’s Enscape or CAD toolbar and the Enscape rendering window. In the Enscape window, pressing L opens the library. From the CAD toolbar, select an asset and place it directly into the model.
- Open the model in the supported CAD application and start Enscape, or open the Enscape rendering window for the current view.
- Choose the Asset Library/Cosmos command from the toolbar, or press
Lwhile the Enscape window has focus. - Browse or search for an item before downloading it. Selecting an asset in the CAD toolbar lets you place it into the model; the Enscape window exposes the placement controls.
- Click in the scene to place the asset. Use the placement controls to continue placing additional copies when you need a group.
Rotation behavior is host-specific. Chaos’s guide notes that rotation is not available in Revit, so plan to orient the object with the tools available in that host or adjust the family or view after placement. Do not assume that a control shown in a SketchUp, Rhino, or other host workflow will appear in Revit.

How can I find a relevant asset instead of scrolling through everything?
Start with the scene requirement, not a vague visual description. A category reduces the search space; a Collection helps when you need a consistent theme; creator or vendor browsing is useful when a particular design language matters; and the search field is fastest when you already know the item.
| Discovery route | Best use | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Categories | Reduce a broad scene need such as vegetation, furniture, people, or vehicles. | Open the detail view and compare tags, file size, creator or vendor, and related content. |
| Collections | Find a themed or curated group when individual keyword results are inconsistent. | Check whether the collection’s style and scale fit the project before downloading several items. |
| Creator or vendor browsing | Keep a project visually coherent or locate a known manufacturer style. | Inspect related assets from the same creator and verify that the specific object is available to your plan. |
| Search | Jump to a known object or a precise term. | Try a narrower synonym or category if the first result set is too broad. |
The detail view is a decision screen, not just a preview. Chaos identifies tags, file size, creator or vendor information, and related assets as useful metadata. Use those fields to reject a near-match before it consumes download time or enters a carefully organized scene. A small file-size difference is not a quality score, but it can help you choose between several otherwise similar options when a project contains many instances.
How do Likes and Cosmos collections help with repeat work?
Like an asset from its preview when it is a likely future choice. Chaos says Likes remain saved after you close the CAD program and can be filtered later. This makes Likes a practical shortlist for recurring project types: landscape planting, office furniture, entourage, or a particular presentation style.
Use a two-pass selection habit. During exploration, Like anything that could work rather than downloading every possibility. Before final placement, filter to Likes, open each detail view, and choose the version that best matches the scene. Cosmos documentation also covers downloading and importing, variants, local storage, and reuse across hosts; because those controls can differ by host and release, confirm the current interface in the documentation for your installed combination rather than relying on an old tutorial.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How should I place and scale vegetation?
Vegetation is where a visually plausible library object can still damage a scene’s credibility. Chaos’s guide recommends using the person shown beside a tree as a relative-size reference. Compare that figure with the people, doors, furniture, or floor-to-ceiling heights already in your model before you commit to multiple copies.

- Place one representative tree, shrub, or plant in a clear area of the model.
- Compare the displayed person beside the asset with a known human scale in your scene.
- If the object is too large or too small, scale the placed instance using your host application’s transform controls.
- Only after the scale is right, create the rest of the planting group or repeated placements.
This check is especially important when a library item is used as a foreground focal point. A scale error repeated twenty times is harder to diagnose than a single test instance. If the host provides no rotation control in the library placement workflow, orient the object with the host’s normal transform tools where available.
What are adjustable assets, and how do I edit them?
Adjustable assets expose selected elements after placement. They may let you change materials, components, or other predefined options, but the available controls are determined by the individual asset. There is no universal adjustment panel that applies to every object.
- Download and place the adjustable asset in the scene.
- Select the placed asset so its editable elements are exposed.
- Change only the available options, such as the listed component or material choices.
- Check the result in the modeling view and the Enscape render before duplicating the object.
If no editable elements appear, first confirm that you selected the asset rather than a surface or nested object. If the asset still has no options, it may simply be a fixed model. Do not expect a custom material or geometry editor for a library object whose creator did not expose those controls.

The built-in catalog is usually the shortest path to a scene-ready object. A custom model is justified when the project needs a unique product, a client-supplied design, or a form that the curated catalog does not cover. The choice is a workflow decision rather than a quality ranking.
| Decision factor | Built-in Cosmos content | Custom model |
|---|---|---|
| Fit and specificity | Curated objects cover common scene needs and are easy to compare with related content. | Can reproduce a specific brand, commissioned design, or unusual geometry. |
| Setup effort | Search, download, and place. | Prepare the file, import it, test it, and organize it in a custom category. |
| Performance and compatibility | Content is prepared for the ecosystem, although host behavior still varies. | You must control polygon count and verify that the file works with Enscape. |
| Availability | Catalog visibility depends on Enscape or Envision version and plan. | Availability depends on having a usable source file and permission to use it. |
Choose the built-in option when a close match is good enough and the scene needs to move quickly. Choose custom content when identity or geometry is central to the image and the additional preparation is worth the control.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do I add my own models to the Enscape Asset Library?
Chaos lists OBJ, FBX, and GLTF as supported custom-asset formats. Import them through the Custom Assets tab, then use custom categories to keep project-specific or studio-approved content findable and shareable.
- Prepare the model in one of the supported formats: OBJ, FBX, or GLTF.
- Review the mesh before import and remove unnecessary geometry that will never be visible in the render.
- Open the Asset Library/Cosmos interface and switch to the Custom Assets tab.
- Import the file and wait for the asset to finish processing.
- Place one test instance in a simple scene. Check scale, materials, orientation, and render behavior before using it throughout a project.
- Assign the asset to a meaningful custom category so teammates can locate it and so the library does not become another unstructured folder.
Chaos’s June 22, 2026 best-practices guidance recommends a maximum of 20,000 polygons for third-party models to support optimal performance. That figure is a recommendation, not a stated hard software limit. A model below it can still be unsuitable if materials, textures, hierarchy, or format features are incompatible, and a model above it may load but impose unnecessary scene cost. Chaos also warns that some third-party models may not work with Enscape, so test compatibility rather than treating a successful file export as proof of support.

Keep an untouched source file outside the library and a clearly named imported copy inside it. If a later revision changes the geometry, replace or rename the custom asset deliberately instead of leaving several ambiguous versions that look identical in the browser.
Why can’t I see the newest Enscape assets?
Check the transition and entitlement in this order:
- Confirm the Enscape version. New releases are delivered through Cosmos beginning with Enscape 4.11. Older library versions do not receive new assets.
- Open Cosmos rather than an old library shortcut. Use the current toolbar command or the
Lshortcut in the Enscape window. - Check the plan and product. Chaos states that library content varies among Enscape and Envision plans.
- Check trial access. The Chaos Help Center update of March 20, 2026 says trial Cosmos access may provide a more limited, curated selection than a full subscription.
- Verify compatibility. Compare your host application and Enscape version with the current supported-version information, then follow the current Cosmos documentation if the interface differs.
A missing asset is therefore not automatically a download failure. It may be a version boundary, a plan entitlement, or a trial-catalog limitation. Verify those conditions before replacing a scene object with a custom import.
How do plans and versions affect what I can promise a team?
Do not promise that a specific asset will be visible to every collaborator based only on its appearance in your own browser. Chaos notes differences among Enscape and Envision plans, and trial users may receive a narrower curated selection. Record the asset name, creator or vendor, and the version or plan context when a particular object is important to a deliverable.

A repeatable asset workflow for production scenes
Use this sequence whenever you start a new project or hand a scene to another artist:
- Set the platform baseline: confirm Enscape 4.11 or later when the project depends on new Cosmos releases, and check host compatibility.
- Define the visual need: list the object type, approximate scale, style, and whether a specific creator or vendor matters.
- Shortlist in Cosmos: use categories, Collections, creator or vendor browsing, and precise search terms.
- Inspect before downloading: read tags, file size, creator or vendor details, and related-asset suggestions in the detail view.
- Like candidates: save likely repeat-use items so the shortlist survives closing the CAD application.
- Test one placement: check scale, orientation, materials, and render appearance before duplicating.
- Adjust when supported: select the placed object and edit only the elements exposed by that asset.
- Import selectively: use OBJ, FBX, or GLTF through Custom Assets only when built-in content cannot meet the requirement; keep third-party geometry near the recommended polygon budget and test compatibility.
- Organize for handoff: place approved custom content in named categories and document the version or plan assumptions behind any essential library asset.
Practical checks before final rendering
- Does the asset’s human-scale reference agree with the surrounding architecture?
- Is the object visible from the camera, or is it adding scene complexity without contributing to the image?
- Did you verify adjustable options before making many copies?
- For custom content, is the file in OBJ, FBX, or GLTF and within the recommended polygon budget?
- Have you tested the imported model in Enscape rather than assuming file-format compatibility?
- Will another team member’s Enscape or Cosmos plan expose the same library item?
- If the project uses an older Enscape release, have you identified which existing library content is retained and which new releases will be unavailable?
The result is a library that supports scene decisions instead of becoming another source of clutter: discover with metadata, save deliberate shortlists, validate scale and editability in context, and treat custom imports as tested production assets rather than anonymous downloads.
