The most reliable way to turn an architectural model into an Enscape walkthrough is to build a camera path from keyframes, preview every transition, then export an MP4 with settings matched to the required smoothness, image quality, file size, and render time. In the Chaos-attributed guide hosted by ArchDaily, the process is described for Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, and ArchiCAD, although the guide gives no publication date or Enscape version. Treat menu names and feature availability as version-sensitive and confirm them in the current Chaos documentation for your design application.
This workflow is useful when a live model walkthrough is impractical, when a presentation must follow a script, or when camera movement needs to line up with talking points. It also gives you a reusable path rather than forcing you to improvise a camera move during a meeting.

An Enscape video is an animation between saved camera states. Each state is a keyframe containing a camera position and viewing direction; Enscape interpolates the movement from one keyframe to the next. You place keyframes along the route so the camera can travel through rooms, turn corners, change floors, or stop at presentation views.
The source guide describes the same general implementation in Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, and ArchiCAD. The exact button location can differ by host application and software version, so use the application’s Enscape toolbar or ribbon to find Toggle Video Editor. The guide’s interface wording should not be treated as a guarantee that every current release exposes identical controls.

Prepare the model and the story before adding keyframes
Choose a route with a clear purpose
Decide what the viewer should understand at each part of the move: an approach to a building, a sequence through a lobby, a connection between floors, or a final establishing view. A path that merely wanders through every available space is difficult to follow and takes longer to render. Mark the moments that need a pause or a change in direction before opening the editor.
Check physical clearance
Walk the route mentally from the camera’s eye height. Door heads, railings, furniture, walls, and other scene objects can create collisions or uncomfortable near misses. Leave enough clearance for turns and keep the camera from clipping through geometry. The guide specifically recommends adjusting the view direction and avoiding collisions while previewing keyframes.

Compose the first view in Enscape before you create the first keyframe. Establish the initial height, lens or field of view, and direction so the video begins deliberately rather than inheriting an accidental viewport position.
Step-by-step: create a camera path and export an MP4
- Open the video editor. In Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, or ArchiCAD, activate Toggle Video Editor from the Enscape controls. The guide says the implementation is similar across these four applications, but labels and locations are version-sensitive.
- Compose the first view. Navigate in Enscape until the opening composition is correct. Check the camera height, direction, visible objects, and clearance.
- Add the opening keyframe. Press the K keyboard shortcut identified by the guide, or use the editor’s add-keyframe control if your release presents one. The first keyframe appears on the video timeline.
- Move to the next meaningful view. Navigate to the next point on the route. Add another keyframe. Place additional keyframes before and after corners, at doorways, and when moving between floors; these anchors give Enscape enough information to make the intended turn or transition.
- Review the timeline. Keyframes are shown on the timeline, and the animation transitions between them. Select a keyframe either in the 3D view or directly on the timeline to edit it.
- Preview the complete animation. Play the path in Enscape before exporting. Watch for collisions, abrupt direction changes, unwanted pauses, and framing that loses the subject. Adjust individual keyframes or add intermediate ones where the camera does not behave as intended.
- Set the duration. The guide says the final video length is determined automatically or through the timestamp animation feature. In the Keyframe Editor, the timestamp associated with the last keyframe controls the overall duration; changing earlier timestamps changes timing within the route.
- Choose export settings. Set resolution, compression quality, frames per second, motion blur, and rendering quality according to the delivery requirement. The trade-offs are detailed below.
- Export the file. Export the completed animation as an MP4. Allow the render to finish before judging the final result; export time depends on the chosen resolution, frame rate, and rendering quality.
Control a keyframe without rebuilding the path
The guide’s Keyframe Editor provides overrides for individual points in the route. Select a keyframe from the 3D view or timeline, then adjust the properties that need to change only at that point.

Time of day
You can assign different times of day to multiple keyframes. Enscape then interpolates the lighting between those points, allowing a route to move gradually from one lighting condition to another. Use this intentionally: a dramatic daylight shift can support a narrative, while an accidental shift can make materials and shadows appear inconsistent.
Field of view
A field-of-view change alters how much of the scene is visible and how pronounced perspective appears. Keep changes modest unless you deliberately want a reveal. Large jumps between adjacent keyframes can feel like a lens change rather than natural camera movement.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Depth of field
Depth-of-field settings can be overridden per keyframe. Reserve a shallow focus effect for moments where the subject is obvious; otherwise, keep enough of the architectural context sharp for the viewer to understand the space.
Timestamp and pacing
Timestamp edits determine when a keyframe is reached. Moving a keyframe later creates a longer, slower segment; moving it earlier accelerates that segment. The guide identifies the final keyframe’s timestamp as the control for overall duration, so change that value when you need the complete video to be longer or shorter.

Easing and handheld-style movement
The retrieved guide names Easing in/out and a Shaky camera option. Easing can soften acceleration and deceleration at keyframes. Shaky camera is described as simulating handheld movement. Because the source does not identify an Enscape version, treat both controls as guide-described, version-sensitive options and verify that your installed release exposes them before designing a shot around them.
How to make turns, floor changes, and pauses look intentional
Corner turns
Do not rely on only one keyframe before and one after a sharp corner. Add an intermediate view that establishes the turn, then preview it at the intended frame rate. If the camera cuts too tightly around the corner, move the intermediate keyframe outward or change its look direction so the path has room to arc.
Moving between floors
Place keyframes at the approach, the stair or lift transition, and the destination. This prevents the interpolation from taking an unintended diagonal route through slabs or walls. Verify vertical clearance in the 3D preview, not only from a plan view.
Pauses and talking points
To hold on a detail, use two nearby keyframes with matching or nearly matching positions and directions, then assign timestamps that create the required dwell. Alternatively, place the next keyframe farther along the timeline while keeping the camera composition stable. Preview the result with the narration or presentation timing in mind; the guide does not provide a fixed pause duration, so the appropriate value depends on your script.

Save a path for reuse or precise editing
The guide describes a Save Path command that stores a path as an XML file from the primary design application. A project can contain multiple paths, which is useful when one model needs separate routes for a sales presentation, a construction review, and a detail sequence.
According to the guide, the XML records X, Y, and Z values for both Position and LookAt for every keyframe. Those coordinates let you make precise numerical adjustments outside the visual editor. Direct XML editing is an advanced technique from the guide, not a required step for ordinary videos: duplicate the file first, change only values you understand, and reopen the path to confirm that the camera still clears the model. An invalid or poorly adjusted coordinate can place the camera inside geometry or point it away from the subject.

The source identifies five export decisions. It gives one concrete resolution example—1920 × 1080 pixels for 1080p—without stating a publication year or claiming that this is the best setting for every delivery platform.
| Setting | What changes | Practical choice |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | Higher pixel dimensions increase render time and file size. | Use 1920 × 1080 when a standard 1080p output is required. Choose a different size only when the destination specifies it or the larger frame is worth the extra render cost. |
| Compression quality | Higher quality increases file size and reduces compression artifacts. The guide says it does not change export time. | Raise quality when fine lines, textures, or gradients show blocking. Lower it only when file size is the limiting requirement and artifacts are acceptable. |
| Frames per second | Higher frame rates take proportionally longer to render and produce smoother motion. | Choose the delivery frame rate first, then keep it consistent with the presentation or editing timeline. Increase it for fast camera moves only when the additional render time is justified. |
| Motion blur | Blur can communicate movement but may obscure architectural details during rapid moves. | Deactivate motion blur when fast camera movement produces unwanted softness, as the guide recommends. Leave it enabled only when the look is intentional and readable. |
| Rendering quality | Higher settings improve lighting and reflection quality while increasing render time per frame. | Use a lower setting for path and timing tests, then raise it for the final export if lighting and reflections are important to the presentation. |
A practical preview-to-final workflow
Pass 1: path validation
Preview the route with draft-friendly rendering settings. Concentrate on camera behavior: does the path remain inside the intended circulation space, does it turn at the right place, and does every talking point appear in frame? Fix geometry collisions and framing before spending time on high-quality rendering.

Pass 2: timing and focus
Adjust timestamps, easing, field of view, depth of field, and time-of-day overrides. Watch the complete sequence rather than judging isolated keyframes. A shot can look excellent at its endpoints and still accelerate too sharply between them.
Pass 3: final quality
Set the required output resolution and frame rate, choose compression quality that preserves important detail, decide whether motion blur helps, and raise rendering quality when lighting or reflections carry visual information. Export the MP4 only after this pass plays cleanly from start to finish.

Troubleshooting common failures
The camera clips through walls or furniture
- Move the affected keyframe away from the object and preview the segment again.
- Add an intermediate keyframe before the collision so the route changes direction gradually.
- Check vertical clearance when the route crosses stairs, balconies, or floor slabs.
A corner feels like a sudden snap
- Add a keyframe before the corner and another after it, with compatible look directions.
- Use easing if it is available in your release and suits the shot.
- Increase the time allocated to the turn rather than relying on a single abrupt direction change.
The video is too short or too long
- Inspect timestamps in the Keyframe Editor.
- Change the final keyframe’s timestamp to alter the overall duration, as described by the guide.
- Redistribute intermediate timestamps so one segment does not consume nearly all of the available time.
Fast movement is unreadably blurry
- Preview with motion blur deactivated, following the guide’s recommendation for unwanted blur.
- Reduce the speed of the affected segment by moving its destination timestamp later.
- Add a keyframe to create a smoother, less abrupt change of direction.
Lighting changes unexpectedly
- Review time-of-day overrides on adjacent keyframes.
- Remove an accidental override or add matching values where consistent lighting is required.
- If a gradual change is intentional, preview the interpolation across the entire route rather than checking only the endpoints.
The file is too large
- Confirm that the resolution is no higher than the destination requires.
- Reduce compression quality only after checking whether artifacts are acceptable.
- Remember that the guide associates higher frame rates with longer rendering and smoother motion; do not increase frame rate without a delivery reason.
When to use separate paths instead of one long video
Use multiple saved paths when the audience needs different narratives from the same model. A short entrance-to-lobby route can be easier to present than a single file that also includes upper floors and detail shots. Because the guide says a project can contain multiple paths, saving each route as its own XML gives you a recoverable, reusable camera setup. Name files by purpose and version outside the editor so a later export does not overwrite the path used for an earlier presentation.
Final quality checklist
- The path starts with an intentional composition and reaches every required talking point.
- Keyframes are placed before and after corners, floor transitions, and other changes in direction.
- The camera clears walls, furniture, railings, ceilings, and floor slabs throughout the preview.
- Field of view, depth of field, and time-of-day overrides are deliberate at each edited keyframe.
- Timestamp changes produce the required total duration and readable pauses.
- Easing or handheld-style movement is used only if the installed version supports it and the effect helps the presentation.
- The chosen resolution, frame rate, compression quality, motion-blur setting, and rendering quality match the delivery requirement.
- The final MP4 has been watched from beginning to end after export, not judged solely from the editor preview.
What the available guide does—and does not—establish
The Chaos-attributed guide hosted by ArchDaily establishes a practical keyframe workflow, the named editor controls, XML path saving, and the qualitative export trade-offs above. It does not state its publication date, identify an Enscape version, provide render-time benchmarks, or compare competing products. Therefore, the steps are best understood as a version-sensitive workflow pattern: confirm current labels and supported host applications in official Chaos documentation before relying on a specific control in production.
