Measure for circulation, not a guessed clearance number

Use the Bentley award description as a specification prompt, not a guarantee

That sentence is an attributed editorial opinion and product description, not an independent test by this article. Treat the eight-to-10-seater example as a prompt to check the current Bentley listing, dimensions, leaf mechanism, finish and availability before relying on it for your room.
Make seating comfortable enough for a long meal

Check proportions before ordering. A visually delicate chair can disappear beside a heavy table, while an oversized high-back chair may dominate a narrow room. Draw the chair width on your floor plan and test how many can be pulled out simultaneously.

The same guidance raises the practical question, “Are benches a good idea for a dining table?” A bench can tuck under the table and provide flexible seating along one side, but it needs enough room for people to enter and leave comfortably. It is most useful when the layout benefits from one long, unobstructed side or when children need adaptable seating. Do not add one solely because it appears in an autumn photograph; measure its depth and consider whether every diner will have adequate back support.

Keep the permanent layer quiet
Use the table, chairs, floor and built-in storage as the long-term layer. Avoid painting every wall in a strong seasonal colour if you expect to change the room’s mood frequently. Use texture rather than novelty
Woven placemats, linen napkins, a washable runner and a small number of candles add warmth without committing the furniture to a Halloween or Christmas motif. Keep candle flames away from foliage and fabric, and leave enough table surface for plates, glasses and serving dishes. When the season changes, swap the textiles and flowers while leaving the oak table and paint intact.

Layer the light
