A fabric gift card holder is a small sewn pocket or wallet for presenting a gift card—and some designs can carry other cards, too. Choose a pattern by the number of cards it holds and whether you want a closure; then use that pattern’s own measurements rather than mixing dimensions from different tutorials.
Choose a holder style
There is no single standard fabric gift card holder pattern. Tutorials show compact pockets, foldover sleeves and multi-slot wallets, each with different construction and capacity.

Gather the materials and tools your pattern calls for
Common materials include outer fabric, lining or a second fabric, thread and fusible or iron-on interfacing. Some patterns also use hook-and-loop tape for a closure. Fabric scraps work for at least one pocket design; check the chosen pattern’s supply list before cutting.

Amy Latta notes that her example will be less thick and sturdy without interfacing. That does not establish a universal interfacing weight: match the type and application instructions to the pattern and fabric.

Useful tools across the tutorials include a sewing machine, scissors or a rotary cutter, a ruler, pins or clips, and an iron. A rotary cutter and specialty clips are not required for every pattern; use the cutting and holding tools you have that suit its instructions.
Use one pattern’s measurements from start to finish
These dimensions belong to different constructions and are not interchangeable:

- AllPeopleQuilt gives a folded finished size of 4 × 2⅜ inches. Its starting rectangles are 5 × 7 inches for fabric and interfacing, and its measurements include ¼-inch seam allowances. Follow its pattern for the shape and assembly.
- Amy Latta lists three 5-inch fabric squares, plus a 4¼-inch square pocket and 3¼ × 4¼-inch pieces for the front, back and interfacing. These measurements apply to that tutorial’s construction.
- Sew Simple Home provides a downloadable pattern and describes cutting, folding, overlapping, stitching and turning the pieces.
Do not combine one tutorial’s cut sizes with another’s folding or assembly steps. If you want a different capacity or closure, choose a pattern designed for that format.

Sew according to the selected design
Construction varies, so use the chosen tutorial’s sequence rather than treating one set of steps as universal. A folded pocket, a lined holder with hook-and-loop tape and a multi-slot wallet have different assembly requirements. The Deb’s Days card-wallet tutorial, AllPeopleQuilt pattern and Sew Simple Home pattern each describe their own process.

Before sewing, confirm that you have the correct pieces, interfacing and closure (if used) for that pattern. Keep the card capacity and opening in mind when choosing; a simple holder intended for one gift card is not automatically a multi-card wallet.

A handmade fabric holder can present a gift card and may be reused for other cards, depending on its design. Tutorials describe that reuse as a possibility; they do not establish a tested durability rating.
