To make text appear on click in Canva, use a Presentation design, place each reveal in its own text box, select each box, choose Animate, and enable Appear on click under Presentation settings. In presentation mode, the text stays hidden until you click or advance the slide. This is a linear, presenter-controlled reveal—not necessarily a PowerPoint-style trigger in which clicking a particular button reveals a specific object.

Canva’s labels can vary slightly by device, account, localization, or editor version. If you do not see “Appear on click,” look for an on-click animation setting inside the animation panel.
Before you start
- Use a Canva Presentation, not a poster, social post, document, or ordinary video design. Canva’s on-click control is tied to presentation behavior. See Canva’s animated-presentation guide.
- Decide whether the whole block or each bullet should appear separately.
- For one click per line, put every bullet, answer, or explanation in its own text box.
- Plan to present from Canva or a shared presentation link. Click behavior may not survive every export format.
Step-by-step: make text appear on click
- Open or create a Presentation. Start with a presentation template or a blank presentation in Canva.
- Add your heading and content. Keep the title separate from the text you want to reveal.
- Separate the reveal items. Create one text box for each bullet, answer, or paragraph that should appear on a separate click.
- Select the first text box. Select the text element itself, not the slide background.
- Click Animate. In the top toolbar, open Animate and choose an element animation.
- Choose an entrance effect. Fade is a restrained choice for lessons and explanations; Rise or Wipe can work well for bullet points. Typewriter-style effects are better when you want to suggest typing.
- Enable the click setting. In the animation panel, open or locate Presentation settings and turn on Appear on click—also described by Canva as an on-click animation setting or slider.
- Repeat for every text box. Apply an element animation and the on-click setting to each item in the intended sequence.
- Present the slide. Click Present, start from the relevant slide, and click through the reveal sequence.
Canva distinguishes element animations from page animations. A page animation affects the entire slide; it does not give you independent control over individual text boxes. For text reveals, make sure the text element is selected before opening Animate.

Animate each box separately and enable the on-click setting for each one. The first click reveals Cause 1, the next reveals Cause 2, and the next reveals Cause 3, provided the slide is presenting in the intended sequence.

Why separate text boxes are important
A single text box is fine when an entire paragraph or list should appear together. It is not the dependable choice for one-click-per-line reveals. Separate boxes let you animate, align, reorder, and troubleshoot each item independently. They require a little more layout work, but they provide much better control for classroom answers, training steps, and paced bullet points.
How to control the reveal order
After animating the elements, test the slide in presentation mode rather than relying only on the editor view. If Canva exposes a sequence or order control in the current editor, use it to arrange the elements. Otherwise:

- Present the slide from the beginning rather than jumping directly to it.
- Use simple numbered text boxes temporarily to identify which element appears first.
- Check that every intended item has its own animation and on-click setting.
- If one element remains out of order, remove and reapply its animation, then test again.
Animation settings can occasionally behave unexpectedly or reset. Test the finished design on the browser, device, and input method you will use during the presentation.
Can you click a specific button to reveal specific text?
Do not assume so. Canva’s on-click feature is designed for a sequential presentation reveal: clicking or advancing moves through the presentation’s animation sequence. It is not the same as clicking a particular on-slide button to trigger a particular text box, nor does it automatically provide branching logic, toggles, or conditional interactions.
Canva’s Links control is separate from animation. A link can open a website, another page, or another destination; it does not necessarily trigger an element animation. If you need a particular button to lead to a particular answer, use linked duplicate slides as a workaround:

- Create a base slide with the buttons and no answers visible.
- Duplicate the slide.
- Reveal one answer or panel on the duplicate.
- Link the relevant button to that duplicate page.
- Repeat for other answers or branches.
This simulates interaction rather than creating a native object-triggered animation. It also creates more pages to maintain and can make navigation harder to manage. For traditional object-specific triggers, Microsoft PowerPoint’s animation controls are a better fit. For conditional lessons and multiple clickable hotspots, consider dedicated interactive-presentation or e-learning software.
Why the text appears immediately or all at once

Does click-to-reveal work after exporting?
The interaction is intended for a live Canva presentation. Do not assume that it will remain interactive in a downloaded file.

If the recipient must work offline, linked duplicate pages may be more practical than relying on live animation. If the result must be a video, use timed animation instead of click-dependent behavior.

FAQ
Can I make each line in one text box appear on a separate click?
For reliable one-click-per-line control, put each line or bullet in its own text box and animate the boxes separately. A single text box works when the whole block should appear together.
Does “Appear on click” mean clicking a specific object?
No. It is a sequential reveal during presentation: clicking or advancing moves through the animation sequence. It is not a promise that a particular button will trigger a particular text box.
Why does my text appear immediately?
Check that you selected the text element, applied an element animation, enabled the on-click setting under Presentation settings, and are testing with Present rather than ordinary editor view.
Will click-to-reveal work in a Canva video or PDF?
Video animation follows playback timing rather than presentation clicks, and PDF or static-image exports do not preserve live click-to-reveal behavior. Test PowerPoint exports rather than assuming the sequence transfers.
