To paint a helmet that reads as The Armorer’s Season 3 design, aim for antiqued gold, gunmetal horns, a textured finish and weathering guided by the visual reference. Prepare and prime the shell before adding color, and choose coatings for its material. No cited production source identifies the screen-used paint brand, code or coating sequence, so treat your colors and layers as an approximation—not a documented screen-accurate formula.
What does The Armorer’s helmet look like?
Mando Mercs Costume Club’s Season 3 costume reference says the helmet “Must be painted antiqued gold, with gunmetal horns.” It also calls for a textured finish and weathering consistent with its visual references. Use those traits as your target rather than assuming a particular paint product or exact amount of damage.
If you are still choosing a model, the reference also describes shape details such as a raised comb. Those are construction and model-selection features; paint alone cannot create an accurate silhouette. Hasbro’s Black Series Armorer Premium Electronic Roleplay Helmet is described as a finished licensed roleplay item, not a paintable blank, and Hasbro does not endorse repainting it.

What paint should you use?
Start with the helmet shell, not a favorite paint color. The costume reference lists different solid-material options, but they do not all necessarily accept the same preparation or coatings. A 3D-printed, resin, fiberglass, styrene or ABS shell may require a different compatible primer and paint system. Check product labels for the substrate and test the complete stack—including primer, color layers and any clear coat—on a sample of the same material when possible.
#1 Best Overall
- Build a detailed LEGO Star Wars display model of The Mandalorian’s helmet and pay tribute to the legendary bounty hunter
- Capture the sheen and replicate iconic features of Mando’s helmet and proudly display it on the brick-built stand with nameplate
- Drum-lacquered LEGO bricks in different shades of grey help you to recreate the metallic look of beskar armor and the contours of the helmet
- Find step-by-step instructions in the box, so even if you are a newcomer to LEGO sets, you will soon be building with confidence
- Premium-quality LEGO Star Wars display models make a big visual impact at home or in the office as decorations
Choose a gold that visually approaches antiqued gold and a compatible dark metallic for the horns. Product labels and the sample test should guide your choice; the available sources establish no validated competing paint systems and do not identify the production paint brand, code, gloss level or layer sequence. Do not describe a hobby paint choice as screen-accurate without production documentation.
How to paint the helmet
- Identify and inspect the shell. Confirm what it is made of, then look for seams, print lines, scratches or other surface defects. Preparation needs depend on the material and the finish you want.
- Clean it before priming. The Mandalorian Mercs painting guide recommends washing the helmet because dust, grease and sweat can affect primer adhesion. Use a cleaning method appropriate for the shell, then let it dry.
- Prepare and prime according to the product label. Follow the selected primer’s directions, then inspect the surface for imperfections before adding color. For one 3D-printed helmet project, DC Paint Solutions describes using filler primer to address print lines, followed by metallic paint and a 2K gloss lacquer. That is one project’s approach, not a universal recipe; use products compatible with your shell and one another.
- Build the gold and horn colors. Apply the antiqued-gold color to the shell and gunmetal to the horns as a compatible paint system, observing the products’ application, recoat and cure directions. Mask the horns or other details where needed to keep color boundaries deliberate.
- Add texture and weathering selectively. Plan wear against the costume reference rather than applying damage at random. One maker describes masking areas for separate colors, then scraping or chipping paint to reveal lower layers (Mandalorian Armour’s helmet practice). Another describes metallic primer beneath darker and colored layers, followed by selective paint removal and a black wash (Dresdon Acacin helmet project). These are distinct maker examples, not required steps; test any effect on a sample first.
- Apply a finish coat only if it suits the paint system. If you use a clear coat, confirm compatibility with the underlying layers and follow its label for application and cure. A clear coat can change the appearance of metallic color, so judge the full stack on a sample before coating the helmet.
How should you plan weathering?
The Season 3 reference asks for weathering consistent with its visuals but does not prescribe a particular quantity of wear or medium. Study where the reference shows contrast and wear, then choose a restrained combination of masking, selective paint removal or a wash that supports that appearance. The maker examples above show possible layered approaches, not a single correct method.

Safety while painting
The Mandalorian Mercs guide warns painters working under cover: “If you are painting under cover, like a garage, make sure there is plenty of ventilation.” Follow the safety information for each paint, primer, solvent and finish product, as well as applicable local requirements. A respirator is not a substitute for ventilation. 3M describes its Paint Project Reusable Respirator 6311 as helping protect against airborne particles and certain organic vapors and as something that can be considered for spray painting and solvent projects; that description does not establish suitability for every coating or work condition. Check the product’s guidance for the task, ensure the respirator fits and is used correctly, and follow its instructions.
