A stunning Kaboodle kitchen is planned from the room outward: define how you cook, measure accurately, resolve services and storage, then coordinate cabinets, benchtops and finishes before ordering. Kaboodle’s modular system can simplify the build, but a successful renovation still depends on a sound layout, realistic budget, correct delivery timing and licensed trades for regulated work.

Kaboodle is a modular kitchen system of flatpack cabinets, doors, panels, benchtops, storage components and accessories designed to work together. Standard modules can be combined with some custom-width products, so you can adapt the system to an existing room without treating every cabinet as a one-off joinery project. The most attractive result is not a particular colour or layout. It is a set of decisions that suit the household, fit the room and remain practical after installation.
#1 Best Overall
- COMPLETE 5-PIECE BRUSH SET FOR EVERY PAINTING TASK — Includes 1 Inch Flat, 1.5 Inch Angle, 2 Inch Flat, 2 Inch Angle Stubby, and 2.5 Inch Angle brush giving you every size professional painters use daily. Get all 5 for less than the price of a single brush from hardware store brands — professional grade performance at a fraction of the cost. Perfect for walls, trim, cabinets, doors, furniture, and detailed cutting-in work on any project.
- ZERO BRISTLE LOSS — GUARANTEED BY PRECISION ADHESIVE BONDING — Every bristle is locked in place with precision-set adhesive that keeps them in the brush — not in your paint job. The coated steel ferrule provides structural support while the adhesive bond ensures clean performance on every stroke. Premium SRT synthetic filaments load more paint and release it evenly for a smooth streak-free finish on walls, ceilings, and trim. Works with latex, oil-based paint, primer, sealer, and wood stain.

Combined with the 1.5 and 2.5 inch angle sash brushes you have precision cutting-in covered at every scale — baseboards, crown molding, door casings, and ceiling lines.
- FLAT BRUSHES FOR BROAD SMOOTH COVERAGE ON ANY SURFACE — The 1 and 2 inch flat brushes deliver even coverage on walls, furniture, shelving, doors, fences, decks, and wood surfaces. Ideal for applying primers, stains, varnishes, polyurethane, and specialty coatings. - TRUSTED BY PROFESSIONAL PAINTERS AND CONTRACTORS NATIONWIDE — Pro Grade delivers professional-grade results at a price that makes sense for crews who go through brushes on every job. Ideal for property managers, remodeling contractors, apartment turnover crews, maintenance teams, and commercial painting operations. Backed by thousands of verified reviews from working painters. Washable and reusable for multiple projects.
That means planning more than cabinet fronts. Your renovation needs a brief, accurate dimensions, appliance specifications, a budget, a decision about DIY and professional work, an order and delivery plan, preparation, installation and a care routine. Kaboodle’s own renovation guide starts with the questions many owners ask: where to start, what to plan and how long the work may take. See Kaboodle’s kitchen renovation guide.
Start with the room, the household and the budget
Write down what the existing kitchen gets wrong
Before opening a planner, observe a normal cooking and cleaning session. Note whether the problem is insufficient storage, too little preparation space, awkward traffic, poor appliance placement, dark work areas, inaccessible corners or surfaces that are hard to clean. A beautiful finish cannot compensate for a refrigerator that blocks a walkway or a pantry that does not hold the food you actually buy.
- Record where ingredients are stored, prepared, cooked and washed.
- Identify bottlenecks when two people use the kitchen.
- List appliances that must remain, appliances you want to add and items that need dedicated storage.
- Mark lighting, ventilation and power concerns for later discussion with the relevant tradesperson.
Set a budget before selecting finishes
Separate the budget into cabinets and accessories, benchtop, sink and tapware, appliances, splashback, demolition and disposal, wall and floor preparation, delivery, installation and trade work. Include a contingency for concealed damage, uneven walls or changes discovered after removal. Kaboodle recommends setting a detailed budget early and comparing the cost, time and risk of DIY with professional help; its seven-step renovation guide is a useful planning checklist.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do not treat a figure repeated in an FAQ as a current Australian renovation benchmark. The Kaboodle FAQ mentions an average complete-renovation figure attributed to an HIA annual report but does not identify the report year. Your room, region, appliance choices and trade requirements determine the useful budget.
Measure the room before choosing cabinets
Accurate measurement is the foundation of an order-ready design. Kaboodle states, “Measure twice, cut once: Accuracy is key when it comes to designing your dream kitchen.” Treat that as a process instruction, not a slogan: measure, record, check and have the plan reviewed before purchase.

Make a written measurement record
- Measure every wall length, corner and ceiling height.
- Locate windows and doors, including their direction of swing and usable opening.
- Record existing plumbing, gas, power points, switches, ventilation and other services.
- Measure appliance cavities and write down each appliance’s manufacturer specifications, not just its visible front dimensions.
- Note skirtings, architraves, columns, bulkheads, uneven walls and anything that could prevent a cabinet or panel sitting flush.
- Keep the original measurements and later revisions together so an installer can see what changed.
Do not assume a universal benchtop height, appliance clearance or corner gap. Those dimensions depend on the selected cabinet, appliance and installation instructions. Verify the requirements for each product in the current Kaboodle and appliance documentation.
Use a second set of eyes
Kaboodle’s online planner accepts room dimensions and can produce a design, item list and construction drawings. Take the resulting plan to a kitchen expert at Bunnings for review before ordering; a check can reveal a missing filler, panel, end support or service conflict while changes are still inexpensive. Planning tools and assembly resources are collected on Kaboodle’s resources page.

Test the layout against real routines
Place storage, preparation, cooking and cleanup where they support the way your household moves. Keep frequently used items close to their point of use, provide a clear preparation surface beside the cooking area where the product plan allows it, and make sure doors and drawers can open without colliding. Consider whether a corner cabinet will be genuinely accessible or merely a large space that is difficult to use.
Decide how much of the room should be drawers, cupboards, pantry storage, open shelving or specialised accessories. A deep drawer may be more useful for cookware than a stack of narrow cupboards; a tall pantry may be valuable in a small footprint; an accessible pull-out may matter more than an extra decorative panel. These are household decisions, not universal rankings.
Check movement and shared use
Walk through the proposed plan with paper or masking tape on the floor. Open an oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and corner door in turn. Imagine unloading groceries, serving food and clearing plates while another person is cooking. If the design fails on the floor, changing a door finish will not fix it.

Choose a coordinated look after the layout works
Once the function is settled, coordinate the door and panel finish with the benchtop, handles, sink, tapware and splashback. Kaboodle’s system is intended to combine these elements, including matching panels and accessories, while some products are available in custom widths. Confirm that the exact colour, edge profile, hardware and cut-to-measure option are available in your market before building the scheme around them.
| Choice | What to evaluate | Practical question |
|---|---|---|
| Door and panel finish | Light, texture, visual scale and cleaning requirements in the relevant product instructions | Will the finish suit the room’s daylight and the amount of daily use? |
| Benchtop | Available lengths, joins, cut-outs, edge treatment and care instructions | Where will joins and appliance cut-outs fall? |
| Handles and hardware | Grip, projection, alignment and interference with adjacent doors | Can every user open the storage comfortably? |
| Sink and tapware | Benchtop compatibility, cabinet space and plumbing position | Has the installer allowed for the bowl, waste, filters and shut-off access? |
| Splashback | Heat, moisture, cleaning and the order of installation | Will it meet the appliance and product requirements? |
There is no objectively best Kaboodle colour. The right combination is the one that coordinates with your room, supports your maintenance tolerance and remains available when you are ready to order.
Use the planner, order guide and product checks
Build the design in the 3D planner, then compare its item list with the construction drawings and your measurement record. Check every cabinet, door, panel, filler, leg, kickboard, shelf, hinge, drawer component, handle, benchtop piece and accessory. Missing a small component can delay an otherwise complete installation.
- Enter the verified room dimensions and place doors, windows and fixed obstacles.
- Add appliances using their exact specifications and manufacturer clearances.
- Test cabinet openings, corner access and traffic paths in the three-dimensional view.
- Generate the item list and construction drawings.
- Ask a Bunnings kitchen expert to review the plan.
- Confirm current stock, price, product availability and delivery timing through Bunnings in Australia or New Zealand before booking trades.
- Read the current assembly and installation instructions for each component and keep them on site.
Availability is not one fixed clock. Kaboodle says some products may be available immediately or within one to two weeks, while made-to-order and cut-to-measure items can take longer. Confirm the date for every critical part, not only the first delivery. Resources, guides and planning tools are listed at Kaboodle’s resource centre; product purchase is through Bunnings.
Choose DIY, professional installation or a hybrid
Flatpack assembly can make a Kaboodle renovation approachable, but assembling cabinets is different from altering gas, plumbing or electrical services. Decide honestly which work matches your skills, time and tolerance for rework.

| Approach | Advantages | Risks and requirements |
|---|---|---|
| DIY cabinet assembly and installation | Can reduce labour cost and gives you control over the pace and sequence | Requires accurate tools, careful levelling, time for assembly and responsibility for protecting the room and correcting mistakes |
| Professional installation | Useful for complex rooms, heavy benchtops, tight tolerances and coordinated trades | Adds labour cost; verify scope, exclusions, timing and who handles defects or adjustments |
| Hybrid project | Lets you assemble straightforward units while assigning specialist or regulated work to experienced trades | Requires a clear handover so cabinets, services, benchtop and splashback are ready in the correct order |
Keep a written scope for each person: who removes the old kitchen, levels walls, assembles units, installs panels, templates and fits the benchtop, reconnects services and installs the splashback. This prevents the common assumption that one contractor is responsible for work another contractor was expected to do.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Sequence removal, preparation, trades and installation
Kaboodle publishes an approximate installation sequence totalling 11–17 days. That is a planning estimate, not a promise. The actual duration changes with kitchen size, preparation, repairs, scope and trade availability. Delivery lead time is separate from installation time.
A practical order of work
- Remove the existing kitchen. Isolate services through the appropriate licensed tradesperson, protect retained floors and fixtures, and dispose of demolition waste safely.
- Repair and prepare the room. Repair walls, level surfaces where required and paint areas that will become difficult to reach after cabinets are installed.
- Pre-assemble cabinets. Follow the component-specific instructions, label units and check parts before moving them into the room.
- Complete rough-in work. Have required plumbing, gas and electrical preparation completed by licensed professionals before cabinets or benchtops make access difficult.
- Install and level cabinets. Fix units in the planned order, check alignment and allow for panels, fillers, kickboards and appliance clearances.
- Fit doors, drawers and panels. Adjust reveals and confirm that every opening operates without interference.
- Install the benchtop. Coordinate templating, cut-outs, joins and supports with the supplier or installer.
- Complete service fit-off. Licensed trades reconnect plumbing, gas and electrical equipment and test their work.
- Install the splashback and finish. Follow the relevant product instructions, seal where specified and protect new surfaces during final adjustments.
Book trades only after the longest-lead items have confirmed dates. A cabinet delivery that arrives in one to two weeks does not guarantee that a made-to-order benchtop or cut-to-measure panel will arrive at the same time.
Keep regulated work and site safety separate from cabinet DIY
Kaboodle and Bunnings direct homeowners to licensed professionals for gas, plumbing and electrical work. Do not disconnect, relocate or reconnect those services yourself merely because you are assembling the surrounding cabinets. Confirm local Australian or New Zealand requirements with the relevant authority and your licensed tradie.
For demolition and installation, use task-appropriate personal protective equipment. Bunnings gives safety glasses, gloves, earmuffs and a mask as examples. Keep children and pets out of the work area, support heavy panels, use the correct lifting method and follow the product instructions rather than improvising fasteners or cut-outs. A tape measure and good-quality basic tools are useful, but a tool is not a substitute for a licensed trade or a plan check.

Compare standard modules with custom-width products
| Option | Best suited to | Trade-off to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Standard modular parts | Rooms that can be designed around established cabinet sizes and readily available components | May require fillers or a layout adjustment to use the room efficiently |
| Made-to-order or cut-to-measure parts | Obstructions, unusual wall lengths or a design that needs a more exact fit | Can cost more or have a longer lead time; confirm measurements and delivery before scheduling installation |
Use a custom part where it solves a real fit problem, not simply to avoid checking the room. Every non-standard item increases the importance of the measurement record, drawing review and delivery confirmation.
After installation: inspect, care and document
Before the installer leaves, open every door and drawer, check panel alignment, inspect benchtop joins and cut-outs, test appliance clearances and look for damage from transport or installation. Photograph concealed services and keep invoices, drawings, product instructions and spare hardware together.
Follow the care instructions for the specific door, benchtop, sink and hardware products. Do not describe a finish as maintenance-free, and do not assume every component has identical warranty coverage. Kaboodle’s FAQ explains warranties by component; check the current warranty document and registration requirements at Kaboodle’s FAQ when you purchase.
Common planning failures and their fixes
- Ordering from a rough sketch: return to a full measurement record, appliance specifications and a reviewed construction drawing.
- Choosing appearance first: test storage, openings, corners and traffic flow before committing to finishes.
- Booking trades before delivery is confirmed: verify each made-to-order and cut-to-measure item and schedule around the latest date.
- Assuming cabinet DIY includes services: reserve gas, plumbing and electrical work for licensed professionals.
- Forgetting preparation: allow for wall repairs, levelling, painting, demolition and waste removal before installation.
- Leaving small parts until the end: reconcile the item list for panels, fillers, kickboards, handles and fixings before the order is placed.
- Failing to protect retained surfaces: cover floors and fixtures during removal, cutting and installation.
What to confirm before you place the order
- The room dimensions, service locations and appliance specifications have been checked twice.
- The planner’s item list matches the construction drawings and your written brief.
- A Bunnings kitchen expert or qualified installer has reviewed the design.
- You know which tasks are DIY, which are professional and which require a licence.
- Stock, price, delivery dates and any made-to-order lead times are confirmed for your region.
- The installation sequence protects the room and leaves access for service fit-off.
- You have the current assembly, care and warranty information for every component.
With those checks complete, Kaboodle becomes what it is designed to be: a coordinated modular system that can be adapted to your room without sacrificing planning discipline. The result is a kitchen that looks considered because its layout, storage, finishes and installation sequence were considered together.
