How to Plan and Build a DIY Bobbin Bezel for Samsung The Frame TV

A bobbin-style DIY bezel is possible, but Samsung Frame TVs do not share one universal cut list. Identify the exact model, measure the set, prototype a removable frame, and test sensor and remote clearance before finishing.

A DIY bobbin bezel can give Samsung The Frame a furniture-style edge, but it cannot be cut safely from the screen’s nominal diagonal size. The reliable method is to identify the exact model code, measure the television in place, choose a molding profile around those measurements, and make a removable dry-fit frame before painting or permanently attaching anything.

Samsung’s own magnetic bezels are matched by model year and screen size. Owner-built frames show several workable construction methods, yet they are individual projects rather than universal plans. Use the workflow below to create a custom decorative frame without blocking sensors, the display, ventilation, or remote control operation.

Why a bobbin bezel needs a measurement-first plan

“55-inch” or “65-inch” describes the diagonal class of a television, not the exact outside dimensions your frame must fit. Bezel thickness, rear housing, corner radii, screen placement, and the location of the lower sensor area can vary between model years. A bobbin profile also changes the opening: a wide, rounded molding may cover more of the television face than a narrow picture-frame trim.

That is why there is no responsible, model-independent cut list for this project. The same nominal screen size can require different frame lengths, depths, corner details, and spacer thicknesses. Measure the television you own, then design around those measurements.

Identify the exact Frame TV before buying trim

Find the complete model code on the television label, packaging, settings menu, or original documentation. Samsung’s U.S. support guidance says Frame TV model codes include “LS03”; the letter after that identifies the year: F (2025), D (2024), C (2023), B (2022), A (2021), T (2020), R (2019), and N (2018). The year matters because official bezel compatibility is specified by both model year and screen size.

Record these details before visiting a lumber or trim supplier:

Samsung’s compatibility advice is straightforward: “To determine which bezel is compatible with your Frame TV, just make sure you buy a bezel for your Frame TV model year and size.” That statement applies to Samsung’s own accessories; a homemade bezel still has to be measured against the physical television.

Use published dimensions only as model-specific references

Samsung’s legacy accessory specification sheet lists attached dimensions for selected older models. Those figures are useful for understanding the scale of a finished bezel, but they are not a universal Frame TV chart and do not establish dimensions for every later generation.

Listed screen class Attached dimensions Bezel width How to use the figure
55-inch example 48.8 × 28.8 × 1.7 inches 0.6 inch Reference for the specific accessory and model generation named on Samsung’s sheet, not a DIY cut size.
65-inch example 57.4 × 32.9 × 1.7 inches 0.6 inch Reference for the specific accessory and model generation named on Samsung’s sheet, not a universal 65-inch template.

“Attached dimensions” include the bezel attached to the listed television. They do not tell you how much of your chosen bobbin molding should overlap the front, how deep your frame should be, or where to place spacers. Take your own measurements even if your TV has the same diagonal size as one of these examples.

Choose the decorative profile and attachment architecture

Decide what the molding must cover

Start by deciding whether the bobbin detail is meant to cover only the narrow factory edge or to create a broader picture-frame border. A profile with deep beads or a pronounced face can intrude into the image if the opening is cut too small. A thin profile may look lost against a large screen. Make a cardboard or paper outline of the proposed face width and lay it over the television to judge the visual balance before cutting wood.

Decorative wood picture-frame molding, bobbin molding, or another trim profile can all work as material categories. Select stock only after you know the required outside dimensions, the clear opening, and the depth available around the television.

Choose how the frame will stay in place

Owner projects describe more than one approach:

Approach Reported construction Planning implication
Face molding on wood stock Decorative molding was attached to wood stock, then the completed frame slipped over the television. Requires a carefully sized inner opening and enough depth for a stable, removable fit.
Panel molding with spacers and plates Panel molding was combined with spacer blocks and metal plates positioned to meet the television’s magnets. Requires testing the magnet locations and adjusting spacer thickness; the arrangement is not guaranteed for another model.

Neither example is a manufacturer-approved plan. Treat the first as a removable slip-on concept and the second as a magnet-assisted concept that may require substantial adaptation. Do not assume that a magnet will hold through your chosen wood thickness, paint layers, or spacer arrangement.

Measure the television and the installation environment

Measure the actual set with a steel tape or calipers where practical. Write down each reading and identify whether it is an outside, inside, front-face, or rear measurement. Measure twice after the TV is in its final position; a wall recess or nearby trim can change the clearance available for a frame.

  • Overall width and height: Measure the television body, not the shipping carton.
  • Front edge and screen opening: Determine how far a decorative border can overlap without covering active pixels.
  • Depth: Measure from the front plane to the rear housing at several points. A slip-on frame must clear the deepest part it surrounds.
  • Corner shape: Check whether corners are square, rounded, or stepped. Transfer that shape to your frame template.
  • Mounting and wall clearance: Note brackets, cables, a recessed niche, and any trim that could interfere with removal.
  • Lower sensor area: Locate the sensor window or other receiver at the bottom edge and record its position relative to the corners.
  • Magnet locations, if applicable: Use the existing Samsung bezel or the television’s documented attachment points as a guide, then verify with a temporary fit.

Turn those readings into a full-size paper, cardboard, or thin scrap-wood template. Mark the intended clear opening, outside perimeter, corner joints, spacer locations, and sensor relief on the template before cutting finished molding.

Build a removable prototype before finishing wood

  1. Make a full-size layout. Draw the measured outside dimensions and clear opening on a flat surface. Include the width of each rail and the direction of the bobbin pattern at every corner.
  2. Cut inexpensive test stock. Use cardboard, foam board, or scrap wood to create four rails. The goal is to test fit and sight lines, not to produce a finished frame.
  3. Assemble the test frame. Keep joints temporary with tape, clamps, or screws that can be removed. Do not glue the decorative molding yet.
  4. Check the opening from the front. Place the prototype over the powered-off television and confirm that the proposed border does not cover the active image or status indicators.
  5. Check depth and wall clearance. Slide the prototype into its final position. Verify that it does not press against the panel, wall, mount, cables, or ventilation areas.
  6. Test removal. Lift the frame away without forcing the television or pulling on cables. A frame that is difficult to remove is a maintenance problem even if it looks correct.
  7. Transfer the approved measurements. Mark the finished molding and wood stock only after the prototype passes every clearance check.

This dry-fit stage is craft guidance based on the variation documented in owner builds: one project needed a slip-on fit, while another needed spacers and metal plates. It is not a Samsung-tested procedure, but it is the safest way to discover a wrong dimension before paint or adhesive makes changes difficult.

Cut and assemble the finished bobbin frame

Prepare the rails

Cut the supporting wood stock to the measured outside dimensions, then cut or attach the decorative molding to the face. If you are using a mitered picture-frame arrangement, keep the bobbin pattern continuous around each corner and label the rails before cutting. If the design uses butt joints, plan which end grain will be visible and how it will be concealed.

  • Why people love decorating TV Frame Bezels? Blend TV with Interior Design. Instead of a black rectangle on the wall, a decorated bezel makes the TV look like framed art. It allows the screen to complement furniture, wall color, and overall home decor.
  • Personal Expression. Different bezels let people match their mood, style, or season. Guests often don’t realize it’s a TV until it’s turned on - this “wow” factor is a big reason people buy The Frame.
  • Remote and Sensor Compatibility: Switch your remote to Bluetooth mode for best performance. And adjust Art Mode settings to ensure sensor performance. Deactivate Sleep After and Night Mode to prevent interference with your TV’s sensors caused by your frame.
  • The installation process couldn't be easier. Simply connect the four corners using the provided corner keys then hook the frame onto the TV and secure the locking tabs. Switch styles in seconds whenever you want a new look. You can refresh your decor anytime without calling an installer.

An owner-reported build used molding glued and nailed to wood stock. That is one possible method, not a required specification. Choose glue and fasteners appropriate for your wood species and the thickness of the molding, and keep fasteners away from the area that will sit against the television.

Add spacers only where the fit requires them

Spacers can establish a consistent stand-off between the decorative face and the television. Their thickness should come from your measured depth and prototype, not from a generic number. Use removable spacers during testing so you can correct a frame that sits too far forward, rubs the housing, or leaves an uneven reveal.

Plan a removable attachment

A slip-on frame is easiest to service if it remains mechanically removable. If you use metal plates to meet the television’s magnets, place them only after confirming magnet locations and holding strength on your exact set. Avoid relying on a magnetic connection that has not been tested with the finished wood, paint, and hardware weight. Do not attach anything directly to the display panel.

Protect the sensor and test remote operation

One owner reported cutting away material around the lower sensor area. Comments on that project also raised concerns about sensor and infrared access. The evidence is anecdotal, and a gap that works on one model may not work on another.

Before final finishing:

  1. Identify every opening, receiver, or sensor on the lower edge of your television.
  2. Install the unfinished prototype in its final position.
  3. Turn the TV on and test the remote from your normal seating positions.
  4. Try power, volume, navigation, source, and Art Mode controls rather than checking only one button.
  5. Watch for delayed response, a need to aim around the frame, or a sensor that works only when the frame is removed.
  6. Enlarge or relocate the relief in the frame if operation is unreliable, then repeat the test after painting.

Paint, clear coat, and a darker or deeper molding can reduce an opening that was adequate in raw wood. Recheck the receiver after the finish has cured.

Paint and finish the frame without losing the fit

Dry-assemble the rails and inspect every inside edge before applying finish. Sand only the surfaces that need it; removing material from the inner lip can enlarge the opening, while adding several heavy coats can reduce it.

  • Prime decorative molding and wood stock according to the coating manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Paint the face and visible side edges consistently so the bobbin profile reads as one frame.
  • Keep paint off contact points, magnets, metal plates, and any surface intended to remain removable.
  • Let the finish cure fully before the final fit test. A finish that feels dry can still mark the television or compress under pressure.
  • Use felt or another non-abrasive protective material only where it does not block sensors or alter the measured opening.

Install and verify the completed bezel

  1. Remove dust and loose finish from the frame and television edge.
  2. Install the frame with the television powered off and supported as needed.
  3. Confirm that the inside edge is not pressing on the screen or front glass.
  4. Check that the frame is level and that the reveal is even on all four sides.
  5. Verify cables, wall clearance, and access to the television’s controls.
  6. Power on the set, test the remote, and inspect the full image in both normal viewing and Art Mode.
  7. Remove the frame immediately if it shifts, contacts the panel, blocks a sensor, or makes the television difficult to service.

DIY bobbin bezel versus Samsung’s official magnetic bezel

Consideration DIY bobbin frame Official Samsung bezel
Appearance Custom profile, width, color, and finish; can be designed around a room’s woodwork. Uses Samsung’s supplied design and finish options.
Fit Depends on your measurements, template, joinery, spacers, and clearances. Samsung specifies selection by exact model year and screen size.
Attachment May be a slip-on frame or a custom spacer-and-plate arrangement. Designed as a magnetic accessory for compatible televisions.
Time Includes measuring, prototyping, cutting, finishing, and repeated testing. Generally avoids custom fabrication, but compatibility still must be checked before purchase.
Risk Incorrect dimensions can cover the image, block a sensor, or create pressure on the set. Lower fabrication risk when the listed model and size match, though availability and options can vary.

Choose DIY when a particular bobbin profile or paint color matters more than a predictable, ready-made fit and you are prepared to measure and adapt. Choose the official route when speed, model-specific compatibility, and a known attachment method matter more than a custom molding design.

Troubleshooting common fit problems

The frame covers part of the picture

Remove it and compare the clear opening with the active image, not merely the visible glass. Reduce the inside lip or redesign the molding width; do not force the frame toward the screen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The frame rocks or will not sit evenly

Check rail lengths, corner angles, spacer thickness, and wall interference. A twisted wood frame can also create an uneven reveal; correct the frame on a flat surface before reinstalling it.

The remote works only from certain angles

Inspect the lower sensor relief and the depth of the molding in front of it. Enlarge the relief and repeat the full remote test after the final finish.

The magnetic attachment is weak

Confirm that plates align with the television’s actual magnets and that paint, wood thickness, or spacers have not increased the gap. If the connection remains uncertain, redesign for a secure removable mechanical fit rather than adding untested weight.

The bezel is hard to remove

Look for pressure against the wall, mount, rear housing, or cables. A serviceable frame should come off without levering against the screen or pulling the television from its mount.

Practical materials checklist

  • Decorative bobbin or picture-frame molding sized after measurement.
  • Wood stock or another rigid support for the rails.
  • Measuring tape, square, straightedge, and a way to record model-specific dimensions.
  • Cardboard, foam board, or scrap stock for a full-size prototype.
  • Clamps and temporary fasteners for dry fitting.
  • Wood glue and suitable fasteners if your chosen construction uses them.
  • Spacers or metal plates only if the tested design requires them.
  • Primer, paint or other finish, and non-abrasive protective material where appropriate.

The exact quantities, rail lengths, spacer sizes, and profile dimensions must come from your television and your chosen design. Neither Samsung’s accessory sheet nor the owner projects establishes a universal bobbin-frame specification.
