How To Release AI-Generated Music: A Creator’s Guide

To release AI-generated music, finish the track in a generator whose terms allow your intended use, prepare accurate credits and artwork, then submit it through a distributor whose fees, revenue share, and store coverage suit you. Before submission, check the distributor’s current audio, artwork, metadata, and AI disclosure requirements; those specifications are not established here.

Step 1: Confirm You Can Release The Track

Check the music generator’s terms for the specific track and plan you used. Suno’s Free Plan does not include commercial rights, so do not use a Free Plan track for a commercial release. For any plan, verify the applicable terms before distributing.

Make sure you have permission for any voice likeness, lyrics, samples, or uploaded source audio in the track. Spotify says vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it. Check the generator’s and distributor’s terms for your use case; this is a practical rights check, not legal advice.

The U.S. Copyright Office says material generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable, prompts alone do not make a person the author, and only human-authored parts of a mixed work may be protected. Applicants registering work containing more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material must disclose it and describe the human author’s contribution. Keep a record of what you wrote, performed, edited, or arranged, and consult the Office’s [AI guidance](https://copyright.gov/ai/) if you plan to register a work.

Step 2: Prepare The Release Materials

1. Choose the final version. Export or download the version you intend to distribute. Check that your selected plan permits the download and intended use; Suno’s Free Plan does not include stem separation.
2. Write accurate metadata. Prepare the release title, artist name, track title, and credits. Credit human contributors accurately, and do not present an AI-generated persona as a real person. Spotify introduced an “AI Persona” badge in August 2026 for artist identities that may be AI-generated rather than a real person.
3. Prepare artwork and audio to the distributor’s specifications. Requirements vary, and the information available here does not establish file formats, artwork dimensions, or delivery deadlines. Check the distributor’s current instructions before uploading.
4. Decide what to disclose. Spotify supports DDEX AI disclosures in credits. Ask your distributor how it handles AI disclosures and provide accurate information when its workflow requests it.

Step 3: Choose A Distributor

These options differ in listed coverage, price, and revenue terms. Confirm current plan details and store availability with the distributor before paying or submitting.

Step 4: Submit And Review The Release

1. Select the plan and release option that fit your artist count, release volume, and revenue terms.
2. Enter the metadata and contributor credits, upload the audio and artwork, and complete any AI disclosure fields. Follow the distributor’s own instructions for file acceptance and scheduling.
3. Review the finished submission for spelling, artist identity, credits, artwork, and rights declarations before confirming it.
4. After submission, use the distributor’s release status or support process if a store listing or delivery detail needs attention. Review what each plan includes before relying on a particular support or payout feature.

Step 5: Keep The Release Compliant And Distinct

Spotify announced protections against mass uploads and duplicates in September 2025 and said it had removed more than 75 million spammy tracks in the prior 12 months. Release only finished, distinct tracks with accurate metadata rather than flooding stores with near-duplicates.
