Yes—Adobe Stock accepts AI-generated images, illustrations, vectors, and videos. To submit successfully, you need the right to license the work, must mark generative-AI content in the Contributor Portal, and must meet Adobe’s quality, metadata, and release requirements. Adobe’s rules were updated June 11, 2026; the steps below reflect the guidance available as of August 18, 2026, and may change.
What Adobe Stock accepts—and what it does not
Adobe Stock accepts generative-AI content made with Firefly, Midjourney, DALL·E, or other tools, provided the contributor has the necessary rights and follows Adobe’s submission rules. Acceptance is conditional: Adobe reviews each asset for legal compliance, technical quality, metadata accuracy, distinctiveness, and commercial usefulness. An AI-generated image is not automatically cleared for licensing just because a tool produced it.
You are responsible for confirming that your tool’s current terms allow commercial use and submission to a stock marketplace. Check the applicable plan and model terms, restrictions on uploaded reference images, output licensing, and any limits on sublicensing. A paid plan does not automatically grant every right needed for stock licensing, and rights can vary by country, date, or feature. Adobe’s submission guidance places that responsibility on the contributor.

Adobe describes Firefly as designed for commercial safety, but that is not a guarantee that every Firefly output is legally risk-free, useful to buyers, or approved by Stock. Midjourney, DALL·E, and other hosted tools likewise require their own current-terms check. There is no universal Adobe-approved-tool list.
What you need before you start
- You must be at least 18 and have an Adobe ID. Create a free contributor account at Adobe Stock Contributor, accept the Contributor Agreement, and provide legal identity and country details that match your documents.
- Choose a generation and editing workflow whose terms permit the intended commercial licensing. Keep records of tool, plan, model, prompts, and reference-image permissions in case you need to verify rights later.
- Complete tax information and payment setup. A contributor account is free; costs for AI generation, editing, or other software are separate.
- Plan to inspect and edit every file. Raw generations commonly need artifact correction, compositional refinement, and metadata work.
Choose a tool by rights and workflow, not hype
Assess a tool on commercial-rights clarity, reference-image permissions, output quality, editing control, export resolution, cost per usable approved asset, and how stable its terms are. Recheck terms after a plan or model change.
- Adobe Firefly: offers an Adobe-integrated workflow and Adobe positions it as designed for commercial use. You must still label AI use and satisfy Stock’s IP, release, and quality rules. See Adobe’s Firefly contributor FAQ and current Firefly plans.
- Midjourney: can suit visual exploration and stylized concepts. Check the current plan-specific rights at Midjourney account and plan management; do not assume output is eligible for Stock.
- DALL·E or another hosted model: check the specific product terms, commercial rights, and reference-image rules. OpenAI’s current terms and pricing are the appropriate live references for its services.
- Photoshop or Illustrator generative features: useful for edits and compositing, but AI changes to a primary subject may still require the AI label. Adobe’s examples distinguish significant subject edits from some background-only cleanup or extension.
Do not upload a reference photo unless you have the rights and any needed permissions to use it. Avoid prompting with protected artists, characters, celebrities, brands, or copyrighted works even if the final image does not visibly reproduce them.
Create images buyers can actually use
A polished picture is not necessarily a useful stock asset. Think about the buyer’s design problem: a clear concept, a readable subject at thumbnail size, realistic context, and room for copy can matter more than elaborate detail. Consider making genuinely different horizontal and vertical compositions, or versions designed for different use cases, rather than a pile of tiny prompt variations.

Business, education, healthcare, technology, sustainability, travel, food, and seasonal subjects can all have stock uses, but generic visual noise is difficult to distinguish. Aim for believable environments and inclusive, practical compositions. Avoid uncanny people in work intended for advertising or publication, and do not fabricate imagery that could be mistaken for a real news event.
Adobe’s AI, intellectual-property, and release rules
Mark AI use in the portal
Adobe’s metadata control is Created using generative AI tools. Select it for content created with generative-AI software. Adobe also says the label applies when AI significantly changes a primary subject—for example, adding a person, animal, or object; making a significant change to a human subject; or recoloring the main subject. Its current examples say that a background extension, background-only recoloring, removal of distracting people or objects, or removal of an IP design may not require the box. Treat these as Adobe’s examples, not a universal legal definition of AI-generated work; when uncertain, consult Adobe’s current guidelines.
Use the fictional-people and property option accurately
If generated people or property are fictional and not based on real people or property, but look recognizable, select People and Property are fictional where applicable. Do not use that selection to avoid a release for a real reference subject.
- Model release: Adobe requires one when content depicts or is based on an identifiable real person, or is intended to portray a specific individual. If you used a real person’s photo as a reference, you need the relevant signed release.
- Property release: recognizable real property or locations may require a release under Adobe’s rules. Check the subject and release requirements rather than assuming that AI treatment removes them.
- Wholly fictional subjects: if the people or property are genuinely fictional and no recognizable real subject is involved, a release is generally not required; represent the work accurately.
Adobe does not accept AI-generated content for its Illustrative Editorial collection, which calls for authentic, unmodified depictions of real-world subjects.

Avoid protected references and misleading metadata
Do not use artist names, real people, fictional characters, copyrighted works, government agencies, brands, logos, or company names as prompt or metadata hooks. Avoid phrases that imply the image depicts an actual newsworthy event. Examples to avoid include “in the style of [living artist],” “portrait of [celebrity],” “character from [franchise],” or “real breaking-news scene.” A generated result can still create rights and policy problems even if it does not perfectly reproduce the prompt reference. Adobe warns that violations can lead to removal or account termination; see its account submission guidelines.
Do not submit public-domain material as though it were eligible original content: Adobe’s account guidance says it does not currently accept public-domain content. Public-domain source status, the AI tool’s terms, and Adobe’s acceptance rules are separate questions.
Prepare the file and choose the right content type
- Photos: choose this for photorealistic work that looks camera-captured and depicts real-life-looking subjects.
- Illustrations: use for clearly artistic, stylized, conceptual, or fantastical images that would not normally be seen as a camera-captured scene.
- Vectors: use for scalable, editable vector artwork. A valid file extension alone is not enough: Adobe expects original, editable scenes or subjects, simple editable shapes, or seamless patterns, with vectors reworked to be easy to edit.
For raster photos, Adobe’s general upload guidance lists JPEG and a minimum resolution of 4 megapixels. Do not enlarge a small image just to meet a pixel count if upscaling leaves visible damage. Adobe lists JPEG, AI, EPS, or SVG for illustrations, with separate requirements for vector files; check the live upload guidelines for the exact format and technical requirements for your asset type.
Inspect each image at 100% or greater. Look for extra or fused fingers, malformed hands, uneven eyes, broken teeth, unnatural joints, inconsistent shadows, implausible reflections or perspective, repeated faces or objects, garbled text on signs or packaging, accidental logos and trademarks, compression artifacts, excessive noise, embedded signatures, watermarks, and stray text. Remove anything that could mislead a buyer about what the image depicts. Adobe’s AI photo and AI illustration guidance provides asset-specific requirements.

Upload and submit step by step
- Sign in to the Contributor Portal.
- Upload the file in a format supported for its content type.
- Select the asset and open its metadata panel.
- Choose Created using generative AI tools when required.
- Choose People and Property are fictional when the content is fictional and the option applies.
- Choose Photos, Illustrations, or Vectors based on what the asset actually is—not which label seems more likely to sell.
- Add an accurate title, relevant keywords, and category. Attach model or property releases when required.
- Review the image, metadata, rights, and release information once more, then select Submit.
- Track moderation status, refusals, downloads, earnings, and payment details in the portal.
Write useful titles and keywords
Describe the subject and scene plainly. Adobe says not to put “generative AI” in a title merely to disclose the production method; use the portal checkbox for that. Do not add prompt parameters, artist or character names, brands, or words that imply a real news event. Avoid inaccurate labels such as “3D render” or “neural network” unless they genuinely describe the image.
Weak title: “AI image of a futuristic office”
Stronger title: “Bright modern office interior with collaborative workspace and natural light”
Potential keywords: office, workspace, business, collaboration, modern interior, desk, technology, natural light, workplace, teamwork, corporate
Use keywords for the concepts a buyer could reasonably search for. Accurate, focused metadata helps discovery; keyword stuffing and irrelevant descriptors do not.
Why AI submissions get refused
Common avoidable problems include a missing AI label, wrong content type, anatomy or object artifacts, garbled text, logos or other protected IP, resemblance to a celebrity or fictional character, missing releases, misleading metadata, watermarks, near-duplicates, low commercial value, or content based on another contributor’s portfolio or style. Adobe reviews more than whether an image looks attractive: rights, quality, distinctiveness, and usefulness all matter.

Adobe’s FAQ says contributors may submit a maximum of three iterations of similar assets before the submissions may be considered spam. That is a ceiling, not a target. A different composition, use of copy space, orientation, season, audience, or business context may make a meaningful alternative; a slight color, crop, expression, or background change usually does not. Curate a small set of strong, distinct assets rather than uploading hundreds of weak generations.
If an asset is refused, read the reason and classify it as technical, legal, metadata-related, or similarity/spam-related. Fix the source file, remove problematic text or IP, correct artifacts, rewrite inaccurate metadata, or add a needed release before submitting again. Do not repeatedly send the same file or use near-duplicates as a workaround. If a refusal seems mistaken, contact Adobe Contributor Support rather than creating duplicate accounts.
How much can you earn?
Adobe’s standard royalty rate is 33% for photos, vectors, and illustrations and 35% for video. The percentage applies to the net price per licensed asset, based on the U.S. purchase price and including discounts; it is not a fixed amount per download. Adobe’s example gives about US$0.99 for a photo license through a US$29.99 monthly plan with 10 photo licenses, but actual calculation and rounding depend on the transaction.
For standard content licensed through large subscriptions of 350 or more standard assets per month, Adobe lists minimum royalties of US$0.33 for contributors with 0–999 lifetime licenses, US$0.36 for 1,000–9,999, and US$0.38 for 10,000 or more. Custom, enterprise, Adobe Express, and other non-standard plans may use attributable-amount calculations or flat rates. Check Adobe’s current royalty-rate table.
Actual earnings vary with the customer plan, license type, content category, net price and discounts, the licensing arrangement, portfolio size, demand, approval, and search visibility. Stock income is uncertain—not guaranteed passive income. The work includes generation, editing, legal checks, metadata, moderation, and portfolio curation. Adobe’s Firefly contributor FAQ describes a bonus payment announced for September 17, 2025, but does not establish a recurring 2026 bonus; do not count on one as regular income.
When and how Adobe pays
To request payment, you need at least US$25 in royalties and must wait at least 45 days after your first Adobe Stock sale. Adobe lists PayPal, Payoneer, and Skrill, subject to regional availability and provider requirements. Complete your tax form: without it, Adobe may withhold up to the maximum applicable rate, stated as 30% depending on country of residence. Adobe says payment typically arrives within 7–10 business days after a request, though timing can vary. Confirm current details on Adobe’s payment requirements and payment request pages. Compare provider availability, fees, exchange rates, and withdrawal costs for your country.
