You can sell stickers online in three ways: make small batches yourself, order inventory from a professional printer, or use print-on-demand (POD) so a partner produces and ships each order. Start with a defined audience, prepare production-ready artwork, test the material and adhesive, price from your complete costs, and use a repeatable packing and shipping process. The right model depends on how much control, cash, labor, and inventory risk you can accept.
Choose a production model before you design
Your production choice affects file setup, materials, unit economics, turnaround, and what you can promise buyers. Shopify’s 2026 guide identifies three practical models.

When home production makes sense
Use a compatible printer, adhesive sticker media and a Cricut or Silhouette machine when you are testing designs, serving a small local audience, or need frequent changes. Expect to calibrate color, drying time and cut settings; make a small test batch before listing a new material.

When to order a professional batch
Services such as StickerApp, Sticker Mule and Sticker Giant can print, cut and mail batches. Request sample packs first. A larger run can reduce the unit price, but you pay upfront and must store designs that may not sell.
When POD is the better trade-off
With a service such as Printful or Printify, upload your high-resolution files, connect the app to your store, and let the provider produce and ship each order. Order a sample before launch: POD removes inventory and much of the packaging work, but you give up some control over substrate, finishing and per-order economics.
Define the customer and product line
Pick a specific audience
Start with a recognizable interest, community or use case rather than a generic “sticker shop.” Remi Silva, cofounder of Blank Tag, described stickers on Shopify Masters as “a way to express who you are and introduce yourself to the world of what you’re interested in, and your culture as well.” That identity should guide your subjects, tone, color choices and listing language.
Plan a manageable range
Launch with a small collection that can be photographed and fulfilled consistently. Offer a few related designs, then add bundles or sheets after you know which motifs sell. Decide whether each design is a die cut (the backing and sticker are cut to the artwork’s outline) or a kiss cut (the sticker layer is cut while the backing remains a convenient sheet).

Choose a practical starting size

Prepare print-ready artwork
Design in Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Canva or another application that exports high-resolution files. Shopify’s 2026 specifications are minimums at the sticker’s final physical size.
- Set the document to at least 300 ppi at the final dimensions.
- Prepare color in CMYK when the printer requires it; colors can shift when a screen-based RGB file is converted.
- Add at least 0.125 inch (3 mm) of bleed beyond the trim edge.
- Keep important type and artwork inside an equal 0.125-inch (3 mm) safe zone so trimming does not clip it.
- Supply a vector cut line for custom shapes or die cuts, following the printer’s naming and spot-color instructions.
- Use transparency for clear stickers when the printer requests it, and confirm whether a white-ink layer is needed.
- Export a suitable PDF, AI, EPS or high-resolution PNG, then inspect the exported file at 100% before ordering.
Design for the process you selected. A home cutter, batch printer and POD supplier may interpret borders, transparent areas and cut lines differently, so use the chosen provider’s template rather than guessing.
Match the material and finish to the use

Test adhesion before selling
Adhesive tack should match the surface: higher tack can suit rough plastic or wood, while lower tack is more appropriate for removable decals. Apply samples to the surfaces you advertise, expose them to the expected handling or moisture, and check for peeling. A material that fails in use can lead to negative reviews even when the artwork is excellent.
Make stickers yourself
- Choose printer-compatible adhesive paper or vinyl and confirm the sheet size your printer accepts.
- Print a proof at actual size. Check color, small type, margins and whether dark areas are fully dry before cutting.
- Apply laminate only if your material and design need the added protection; allow the adhesive to settle according to the laminate instructions.
- Load the sheet into a Cricut or Silhouette, align the registration marks, and run a small kiss-cut or die-cut test.
- Adjust blade depth, pressure and speed until the sticker layer cuts cleanly without tearing the backing.
- Inspect every sheet, remove defective pieces, and record the settings that worked for that material.
Home production gives you rapid design iteration, but ink, failed sheets, machine time and your packing labor belong in the cost calculation.

Order from a professional printer
- Send the printer the final file and specify dimensions, quantity, material, finish, cut style and any white-ink or transparent requirements.
- Buy a sample pack or proof before approving a large run.
- Evaluate color, edge quality, laminate, adhesive and packaging on the surfaces your customers will use.
- Order a quantity that earns a useful unit-cost reduction without leaving more inventory than your sales can support.
- When the batch arrives, count and inspect it before publishing the listing or promising a dispatch date.
Set up print-on-demand carefully
- Prepare the file to the POD provider’s template and upload it at final size.
- Connect the provider’s app to Etsy, Shopify or your chosen storefront.
- Order a sample and compare the delivered material, finish, colors and packaging with your listing photos.
- Calculate the delivered cost, including the provider’s base price, shipping, platform fees and any replacement policy.
- Publish only after you know the provider’s processing time and the delivery estimate you can honestly communicate.
Price from complete order economics
Build a cost sheet for each product or bundle. Include production or POD cost, inbound and outbound shipping, packaging, platform and payment fees, marketing, expected refunds or replacements, and applicable taxes. For a POD item, Shopify’s stated formula is:
Retail price − POD base cost − Shopify transaction fees = profit margin.
Shopify’s 2026 illustration uses a $2.50 POD base cost, a $6.00 retail price and $0.50 in fees, leaving a $3.00 margin (50%). It is an illustration, not an industry-wide sticker price or income benchmark.
Price bundles by contribution per order
For sticker sheets, multi-packs and add-ons, measure contribution margin per complete order rather than dividing profit by the number of individual stickers. A low-cost mini sticker or mystery extra can increase cart value only when the additional postage, packing time and handling remain economical.

A combined approach can use Etsy for discovery and Shopify for an owned storefront. Recheck current platform fees, shipping rules and search policies before setting prices.
Create listings that answer buying questions
- Photograph the sticker on a real application surface and include a separate image showing scale.
- State the exact dimensions, quantity, material, finish and whether the item is a die cut or kiss cut.
- Describe suitable surfaces and disclose weather resistance conservatively; do not call paper stickers waterproof.
- Show close-ups of matte, gloss, holographic or transparent effects so buyers know what they will receive.
- Explain processing time separately from carrier transit time.
- For variations, make the option names unambiguous and keep the photographed version tied to the selected option.
Ship stickers cheaply without misleading buyers
Use a repeatable packing sequence
- Count the ordered designs and inspect them for printing, cutting or adhesive defects.
- Place the stickers in a protective sleeve, then use a rigid mailer or other protection appropriate to the quantity so they arrive flat.
- Verify the buyer’s address against the order record before printing the label.
- Choose the package type and service, print the correct label, and record tracking when that service provides it.
- Mark the order as shipped only after the parcel is actually handed to the carrier, and communicate the processing time promised in the listing.

Delivery estimates and label prices are not guarantees. Shopify notes that label cost depends on origin, destination, weight and dimensions. Do not advertise “tracked delivery” when you are using a First Class Large Envelope flat.
Set Etsy shipping deliberately
Etsy supports shipping profiles, calculated rates and integrated USPS labels for eligible sellers. Etsy’s current shipping help says shoppers are 20% more likely to complete a purchase when an item ships free. Its seller handbook reports potential savings of up to 30% versus retail postage when eligible sellers buy USPS or FedEx labels through Etsy. Those are Etsy-published figures, not a promise for every product, destination or seller; compare the resulting margin with your actual package dimensions and weight.
