Britex separates its stainless-steel washroom products into an ambulant toilet suite and an accessible (disabled) suite or pan. They are not interchangeable model names: each has its own pan codes, P-trap and S-trap versions, drawings and option set. The correct specification depends on the intended users, the waste connection, required clearances, security level and the current project brief. Britex’s sheets contain useful dimensions and certification claims, but their revision dates differ, so confirm the latest drawing, registration and applicable requirements before ordering or treating an installation as compliant.

What Britex means by “ambulant” and “accessible”
The product literature presents two distinct categories. The ambulant suite is described for ambulant users in relation to AS1428. The separate accessible toilet suite and Centurion disabled pan are intended for disabled or accessible applications and use different model codes. A project should therefore begin by deciding which category the brief requires rather than selecting a generic stainless-steel toilet.

Britex describes its ambulant model as a compact, close-coupled stainless-steel suite with a dual-flush cistern, vandal-resistant pan and seat, concealed fixings and access panels on both sides. The company also describes a trap design that is less susceptible to blockages. That is a manufacturer statement, not an independent performance test. The sheet says the suite is supplied with a vandal-resistant, closed-front seat, black unless another colour is specified, and a double-skinned cistern casing.

Accessible suite and disabled pan
The accessible toilet suite sheet identifies model PTSD and lists separate P-trap and S-trap versions. The Centurion disabled-pan sheet describes a fully shrouded, heavy-gauge grade 304 satin stainless-steel pan, also available with either trap arrangement. Both documents mention side access panels and an optional stainless-steel backrest. The disabled-pan sheet describes an ambulant version as raised height only; that option should not be confused with the complete ambulant suite.
Models, configurations and printed specifications
The following values are transcribed from the dated product sheets. They are useful for preliminary design, but they are not confirmation that the same codes, dimensions or registrations remain current.
| Product category | Codes shown in the literature | Configuration and features | Printed figures and evidence date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ambulant suite | PTSCAMP (P-trap Centurion pan); PTSCAMS (S-trap Centurion pan). A sample specification uses PTSAMX. | Close-coupled suite, dual-flush cistern, vandal-resistant pan and closed-front seat, left and right access panels, concealed fixings, double-skinned cistern casing. | 650 mm suite height; drawing set-outs allow ±5 mm and warns not to scale. Flush volumes shown as 4.5 L, 6 L and 9 L. Datasheet marked last revised June 2017. |
| Accessible toilet suite | PTSDCP (P-trap); PTSDCS (S-trap); product family identified as PTSD. | Stainless-steel suite with dual-flush cistern; seat choices and optional stainless-steel backrest. | Drawing dated 25 October 2022, with a revision dated 27 October 2022. |
| Centurion disabled pan | PCD family, with P-trap and S-trap models. | Fully shrouded, heavy-gauge grade 304 satin stainless-steel pan; side access panels; optional backrest; permanently sealed access panels available for maximum-security projects according to the sheet. | Flush figure shown as 4.5/3 litres. Datasheet marked last revised 2020; it also states an ambulant version is raised height only. |
Choosing P-trap or S-trap
Every category in the retrieved literature is offered in P-trap and S-trap forms. The choice is a plumbing-setout decision, not a preference based on appearance. A P-trap generally connects through the wall, while an S-trap connects through the floor; the existing or designed waste route must be checked against the current Britex drawing and the project engineer’s setout.

- Match the product code. Select the current P-trap or S-trap code for the chosen ambulant or accessible category; do not substitute a code from the other category.
- Check the latest drawing. The older ambulant sheet gives a 650 mm suite height and ±5 mm drawing tolerance, but dimensions and set-outs may change.
- Coordinate before rough-in. Have the plumbing and architectural teams approve the pan position, cistern depth, access-panel clearance and finished-floor levels before pipework is concealed.
Security, maintenance and durability features
Access panels and concealed fixings
Britex’s sheets describe side access panels and concealed fixings. These features can keep service points reachable while reducing exposed hardware in high-use facilities. The accessible and disabled-pan documents also describe permanently sealed access panels as an option for maximum-security projects. Sealing panels changes how maintenance is performed, so the security requirement and the service strategy should be agreed before that option is selected.
Stainless-steel construction
The Centurion disabled-pan sheet specifies heavy-gauge grade 304 satin stainless steel. The ambulant sheet emphasises robust construction and a vandal-resistant pan. These descriptions indicate the intended commercial and institutional use, but they do not establish a quantified impact rating, corrosion guarantee or independent durability result.
Trap and blockage claims
The ambulant datasheet says its trap design is less susceptible to blockages. Treat that as Britex’s product claim rather than a comparative test result. Correct waste sizing, venting, installation and maintenance remain necessary regardless of the selected pan.

Seats, backrests and related accessories
The ambulant sheet includes a vandal-resistant, closed-front seat, black unless otherwise specified. The accessible-suite and disabled-pan sheets list seat choices and an optional stainless-steel backrest. Record whether the seat is included, which colour or model is required and whether a backrest is part of the accessibility brief; option lists can change between revisions.
An older Spec-Net trade feature also mentions stainless-steel backrests, commercial grab rails, a dual-flush in-wall cistern and a specialty coating for installations near the ocean. That feature does not verify present availability, technical suitability or approval for a particular site. Treat these items as coordination prompts and obtain current product information before including them in a tender.
Compliance, WELS and WaterMark: how to read the claims
Britex product literature states AS1428-related compliance and includes WELS and WaterMark references. The ambulant sheet lists WELS registrations L03256 for the P-trap version and L03257 for the S-trap version, plus WaterMark licence WM022054. It prints flush volumes of 4.5 L, 6 L and 9 L. Those values and registrations appear on a datasheet marked June 2017; they are not evidence that a registration is current or that every present configuration carries the same approval.

The Centurion disabled-pan sheet, marked last revised 2020, states AS1428 compliance and shows a 4.5/3-litre flush figure. The accessible-suite drawing is dated October 2022. Because the documents are from different revisions, the project team should obtain the current Britex literature and verify the applicable Australian requirements, registration records, accessible clearances and installation details for the specific site.
A useful specification sentence attributes rather than guarantees the claim: “Britex’s product sheet states that the selected suite is designed in relation to AS1428 and identifies the listed WELS and WaterMark references.” The certifier, access consultant and building surveyor must determine whether the complete installation meets the governing edition and project conditions.
Dimensions and set-out checks
The ambulant drawing gives a 650 mm overall suite height and says shown dimensions and set-outs allow ±5 mm. It also warns readers not to scale the drawing. Use the manufacturer’s dimensioned drawing, not a measurement taken from a PDF image, when coordinating walls, partitions, grab rails, cistern services or finished-floor levels.

A practical specification workflow
- Classify the use case. Decide whether the project needs the ambulant suite, the accessible suite or a disabled pan with a separately coordinated cistern and accessories.
- Confirm the plumbing arrangement. Select P-trap or S-trap only after the waste route and set-out are documented.
- Choose the security level. Decide between serviceable access panels and any permanently sealed maximum-security option.
- List included and optional components. State the seat type and colour, backrest, grab rails, cistern arrangement and any coating or security requirement.
- Insert the current dimensions. Attach the latest manufacturer drawing and identify the revision, rather than relying on the 2017, 2020 or 2022 sheets as if they were current.
- Verify approvals. Ask for current WELS and WaterMark evidence and have the project’s access and compliance professionals confirm the applicable requirements.
- Obtain a written quotation. The retrieved documents do not establish current price, stock, lead time or supply channel. Request those details from Britex or an authorised supplier for the exact code and options.
- Inspect on delivery. Check the delivered code, trap type, seat, backrest and panel configuration against the approved schedule before rough-in or installation.
Common specification mistakes and their fixes
| Mistake | Why it causes trouble | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Calling every stainless-steel toilet “ambulant”. | The ambulant suite, accessible suite and disabled pan have separate categories and codes. | Name the intended category and exact current model in the schedule. |
| Choosing a trap from the catalogue without checking the waste. | P-trap and S-trap connect differently and may not match the site set-out. | Coordinate the waste route first, then select the matching code. |
| Scaling a drawing or using an old dimension. | The ambulant sheet warns against scaling and gives a ±5 mm tolerance; revisions may change. | Use the latest dimensioned drawing and verify set-out on site. |
| Assuming a compliance statement is a blanket approval. | The documents are dated and do not establish the governing edition or current registration. | Verify current certificates and have the project certifier confirm installation compliance. |
| Omitting seat, backrest or panel options. | Those choices affect accessibility, security and maintenance. | Write every selected option and whether it is included in the supply. |
| Specifying a sealed panel without a service plan. | Permanent sealing can restrict routine access. | Obtain security approval and document how future maintenance will occur. |
What is and is not established about cost and availability
No current price, stock position, lead time, Amazon listing or verified affiliate arrangement is established for these products. Costs will vary with the selected category, trap, seat, backrest, cistern, security treatment, freight and installation. A buyer should request a dated quotation for the exact code and options, then check that the quotation references the same drawing revision used by the design team.
Bottom line for architects, builders and facility buyers
Specify the user category first, then the trap, dimensions and options. The ambulant suite is a close-coupled, dual-flush commercial unit with vandal-resistant features; the accessible suite and Centurion disabled pan are separate products with their own codes and accessory choices. Use the printed figures and certification references as starting information only: the relevant sheets are dated June 2017, 2020 and October 2022, and Britex notes that details can change. A compliant, buildable result requires the current manufacturer drawing, coordinated plumbing set-out and project-specific approval from the responsible professionals.
