DreamScape customisation has two distinct meanings: you can print a project-specific design, logo or image, and you may be able to alter the physical substrate’s color, texture, roll length or width. Those choices are not interchangeable, and no single DreamScape product is guaranteed to support every combination. Confirm feasibility, minimum quantity, price, lead time and current technical data for the exact substrate before you put it in a specification.

What “customisable” means in a DreamScape specification
DreamScape is the commercial wallcovering brand of Roysons Corporation, headquartered in Rockaway, New Jersey. Its portfolio is made for digital inkjet printing and is organised into core, special-effect, sustainable, high-performance, wall-and-floor-wrap and accessory categories. The company describes products such as Suede, Matte, Mystical and Canvas as core materials; Bling! and Flash as special-effect finishes; and separate PVC-free and post-consumer-recycled-content products in its sustainable range. These are product families, not a promise that every item is stocked in every market or available in every dimension.
In practice, a “custom wallcovering” brief can refer to either of the following:

- Custom printed content: artwork supplied by the client or designer, including a bespoke pattern, logo, photograph or other image, printed on a selected DreamScape media.
- Custom manufacturing: a physical change to an eligible substrate, such as a custom base color, emboss or texture, roll length, or roll width.
A project can require one layer or both, but the available combinations must be checked with DreamScape. A printable surface that accepts a custom image is not automatically available with every emboss, color or width option.
Custom artwork is separate from custom substrate production
A specifier guide hosted by Architecture & Design describes DreamScape media as suitable for printable custom designs, logos and images. That capability answers the creative question—what should appear on the wall? It does not, by itself, answer whether the chosen media can also be manufactured in a non-standard color, texture or dimension.
Start by defining the artwork independently from the material. Record the file format, color space, repeat size, viewing distance, image resolution and whether the design needs a solid color field, photographic detail or a special-effect surface. Then select a substrate whose face, sheen, emboss and performance characteristics support that artwork. Ask DreamScape to confirm the printer-and-ink workflow for the exact product rather than assuming that a printer partnership or a successful print on one media applies to the whole range.
DreamScape says it partners with HP, Durst, EFI Vutek, Mimaki and Canon. That demonstrates involvement in wide-format printing, not universal compatibility with every printer, ink set or curing process. A production test or manufacturer confirmation is the responsible way to close that gap.
The four physical customisation options
DreamScape’s custom page identifies four manufacturing variables. The quantities below are typical minimums, not guaranteed thresholds: the page cautions that the actual minimum can vary with the request, product and available tooling.

Custom color
For a branded lobby, a hospitality palette or a solid field behind a mural, send a physical reference whenever possible. DreamScape lists a color reference chip, Pantone code, paint swatch or fabric swatch as acceptable starting points. The company says its design team will advise whether the target is achievable and provide an estimate for cost and lead time.

A custom-colored substrate can be more than a visual choice. DreamScape says a solid background may reduce printing cost or improve quality because the base material can reduce machine time and ink consumption. That benefit depends on the artwork, selected media and production method; it is not a blanket discount. Plan for the stated typical 2,500-yard minimum, with the final quantity confirmed for the requested color.
Custom texture
If the standard texture library does not deliver the required tactile or light-catching effect, DreamScape says it may find a solution through its emboss library. Supply a physical swatch that shows the desired scale, depth and direction. Texture changes can affect apparent color, highlight, image sharpness, seam visibility and cleaning behavior, so request a printed sample on the proposed emboss before approving a long run.
The typical minimum is 2,500 yards, and DreamScape notes that availability of embossing tooling can change the quantity requirement. A texture that is technically possible may still be impractical for a smaller installation.
Custom length
DreamScape lists standard roll lengths of 75, 150 and 300 feet, with 600-foot high-efficiency rolls for certain products. A custom length is useful when a panel schedule, freight plan or installation sequence does not fit those standards. The typical custom-length minimum is 1,000 yards.
Do not calculate only the visible wall area. Add pattern-repeat waste, trimming allowance, damaged-panel contingency and the installer’s seam plan. Ask for the finished roll length, core and packaging details on the quotation so the approved schedule matches what arrives on site.

The page identifies 54 inches as the standard width. Canvas, Mystical and Matte are listed at 54 or 60 inches, while Suede is listed at 54, 60 or 75 inches. It also says most products can be made in a custom width from 30 to 60 inches, normally at a 1,000-yard minimum.

Those statements are not identical: a product’s standard width list and the broader custom-width range describe different things. A 60-inch maximum for most custom runs does not make a 60-inch roll available for every product, and Suede’s 75-inch standard option does not establish a 75-inch custom run elsewhere. Name the exact product and requested width in the inquiry and obtain written confirmation.
How to choose a substrate before requesting a custom run
Compare the surface effect
Decide whether the room needs a quiet matte appearance, a textile-like face, a pronounced emboss, a reflective special effect or a wrap material for walls and floors. Texture and sheen alter how color is perceived under daylight, LEDs and grazing light. A small ring sample is useful for screening, but a full-size printed panel is safer for judging a mural, large logo or fine linework.
Separate vinyl, PVC-free and recycled-content requirements
DreamScape’s overview includes vinyl products, PVC-free options and materials containing post-consumer recycled content. These categories should be compared against the project’s emissions, sustainability, cleaning and durability requirements. “Sustainable” is not a universal property of the portfolio, so cite the environmental attributes of the selected product and request its current documentation.

Check the intended environment
Record traffic level, impact risk, cleaning chemicals, moisture exposure, proximity to food preparation, infection-control protocols and any fire or emissions criteria. The applicable test results belong to the individual technical sheet and the destination jurisdiction. A rating on one DreamScape sheet cannot be transferred to another product family.
Verify printer and ink workflow
Confirm the printer model, ink technology, curing method, color-management profile, maximum media width and finishing process with the printer and DreamScape. Ask whether a primer, overprint or protective coating changes the recommended profile. Keep the approved print sample with the submittal so the installer and quality team can identify the accepted color and surface.
A concrete technical example: the 20-ounce Type II sheet
DreamScape’s 20-ounce Type II data sheet illustrates why specifications must be product-specific. It describes commercial-grade printable vinyl wallcovering media for modern wide-format inkjet printers, with an embossed vinyl face and laminated fabric backing. The backing type depends on the emboss.

Specify samples, documents and installation requirements
DreamScape’s architectural specification asks for samples of each proposed texture, type and color for architect approval. Treat that as a minimum submittal, not a formality. Request a sample printed with the project artwork, a sample of any custom base color, and a sample showing the proposed seam or repeat.
- Identify the exact product name, finish, width, intended roll length and printing process.
- Request current technical data, fire and emissions documentation, sustainability information and printer/ink guidance for that product.
- Obtain the current hanging instructions and give them to the installer before material is ordered.
- Confirm wall preparation, primer, adhesive, acclimation, seam placement, trimming and protection requirements in writing.
- Approve a physical color and texture sample under the project’s lighting before releasing production.
For the commercial vinyl specification, DreamScape calls for an adhesive and primer designed for vinyl wallcoverings and containing mildew inhibitors. It specifies smoothing with a wallcovering brush or plastic scraper and warns against burnishing the face. Follow the selected product’s current instructions if they differ.
The same specification recommends a liquid topcoat to protect the wallcovering pattern from staining and abrasion, stating: “For optimal durability we recommend the use of a liquid topcoat to protect the surface of the wallcovering pattern from stain and abrasion.” This is a recommendation in that commercial-vinyl context, not a universal requirement for every DreamScape material. Confirm compatibility before applying any coating.
DreamScape’s overview lists DreamGuard protective coating, sample ring sets, presentation books, adhesive, wall primer and branded hand squeegees as accessories. Their inclusion in the accessory range does not replace a product-specific compatibility check.
How to prepare a quotation request
A complete inquiry reduces the chance of a technically attractive but unbuildable proposal. Include:

- Estimated net square footage, panel count and waste allowance.
- Exact substrate family, desired texture or special effect, and whether the base must be vinyl, PVC-free or recycled-content.
- Artwork files, repeat dimensions, color references and proofing expectations.
- Required finished width and roll length, plus the installation schedule and delivery date.
- Printer and ink system, if printing will be performed by a third-party print provider.
- Required fire, emissions, cleaning, abrasion and sustainability documentation.
- Sample quantities and the people authorised to approve color and texture.
Ask DreamScape to return the feasible combinations, applicable minimum quantity, unit and setup charges, estimated lead time, freight assumptions, proofing steps and expiration date of the quote. The custom page itself says quantities can vary, and the company must confirm current pricing, availability and timing for the specific project.
Common specification mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming every texture accepts every image
An emboss can soften fine detail or change ink coverage. Approve a printed sample on the actual texture rather than extrapolating from a smooth proof.
Treating a typical minimum as a firm rule
The 2,500-yard and 1,000-yard figures are typical production minimums. Color availability, emboss tooling, product selection and factory scheduling can change the final requirement.
Confusing standard and custom dimensions
Standard widths and lengths differ by product, and the custom-width range is not identical to every standard-width list. Put the requested dimensions beside the exact product name on every drawing and purchase document.
Copying one technical sheet across the portfolio
The Type II sheet’s weight, thickness and ratings are not portfolio-wide specifications. Use the current data sheet for the material actually ordered and have the design team review jurisdiction-specific compliance.
Leaving installation until after fabrication
Vinyl adhesive, mildew-inhibiting primer, smoothing tools, topcoat decisions and wall preparation can affect the approved finish. Coordinate the installer while the material is still being selected, and issue current hanging instructions with the shipment.
What DreamScape’s company information can—and cannot—tell you
DreamScape’s company page reports that the brand was founded in 2002, has 90 team members, serves more than 500 clients, has received five SGIA Product of the Year Awards and has recycled and repurposed more than 12 million water bottles. Those figures are company-reported, and the page does not state a reporting year for the team, client, award or bottle figures. They provide background on the supplier, not project-specific proof of capacity, compliance or lead time.
For a real specification, the decisive evidence remains the approved sample, current technical sheet, written feasibility response and confirmed production schedule for the selected substrate.
