Turn a hummed idea into a usable song by preserving the melody first, then adding lyrics, harmony, arrangement, and production in separate passes. Record a clean hum, use an audio-reference or transcription tool, and keep the original take so you can correct wrong notes before committing to a full arrangement.
Prepare A Humming Take That AI Can Follow
- Record one clear melody on a phone or computer microphone. Hum the hook on a steady vowel, leave a short count-in, and avoid backing music, reverb, or other voices.
- Hum the complete phrase twice at the same tempo. The second pass gives you a reference if the first contains a missed note.
- Save the file and listen for pitch jumps, clipped audio, and background noise. A clean monophonic line is easier to transcribe than a layered demo.
- Decide whether you need a written melody (MIDI, MusicXML, or notation) or a finished song. Choose the transcription route for editable notes; choose the song-generation route for vocals, lyrics, and production.
Choose The Right Humming-To-Song Route
The directory descriptions confirm audio upload, reference, transformation, or transcription capabilities, but they do not establish a dedicated “hum to song” button for every service. Upload your hum only where the current interface accepts it as an input or reference, and check the vendor’s current instructions before relying on a specific conversion mode.

Step 1: Capture And Inspect The Melody
Open the recording in Klangio Transcription Studio or Songscription when you want a note-level starting point. Klangio’s free plan allows 20 seconds per transcription; its Pro plan lists 50 full transcriptions per month and a 15-minute maximum per transcription. Songscription’s free plan lists 30-second transcriptions. Export MIDI or MusicXML when available, then correct octave errors, rests, and note lengths in your notation or DAW software.
Step 2: Turn The Clean Take Into A Song Draft
Suno
Suno supports audio uploads, vocals, lyrics, instrumentation, remixing, extensions, section replacement, and stem export. Its Free Plan lists an 8-minute audio-upload limit but does not include commercial rights or stem separation. Upload the hum if the current creator flow accepts it, then prompt: “Use this hummed melody as the main hook. Keep its contour and pauses. Build a [tempo] [genre] song with [instrument palette], an eight-bar intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, and a short instrumental break.”

Eleven Music
Eleven Music accepts audio references and can generate vocal or instrumental tracks, edit sections, inpaint, transition genres, and export stems plus MP3/WAV files. Its Free plan is for personal use and has browse-only Marketplace access. Prompt: “Follow the uploaded hum’s rhythm and pitch direction. Write new lyrics about [subject], leave space before each chorus, and keep the chorus melody recognizable.”
Udio
Udio provides audio transformations, lyric editing, voice-reference blending, extensions, and Sessions timeline refinement. During its stated transition period, audio, video, and stem downloads are disabled, so use it for shaping and auditioning ideas while checking the current export status. Prompt: “Transform this hummed motif into a [genre] arrangement; preserve the first four notes, use a restrained verse, and widen the harmony only in the chorus.”

Mureka
Mureka accepts reference audio and supports remixing, extensions, vocal generation, voice cloning, multitrack editing, stem separation, and audio/MIDI export. Use the hum as the reference, then specify structure and instrumentation rather than asking for a vague “full song.” Its listing says Mureka Studio and up to 12-stem splitting are Premier-only features.

Step 4: Add Lyrics Without Losing The Hum
- Mark the melody’s phrase lengths from the transcription or reference take.
- Write lyric lines with matching syllable counts; keep stressed syllables on the hum’s strongest notes.
- Ask the generator for new lyrics while explicitly preserving the uploaded melody’s contour.
- Replace only one section at a time when the service supports section editing, inpainting, or replacement.
Step 5: Edit The Arrangement And Export
Use stems where the selected plan provides them, mute competing parts, and keep the hum-derived hook in its own reference track. Suno, Eleven Music, Mureka, Loudly, and AIMakeSong list stem or separated-audio features, while Udio’s listing says stem export is currently disabled during its transition period. If you need notation rather than audio, export MIDI or MusicXML from Klangio Transcription Studio or Songscription and correct the result manually.
Voice Consent And Usage Rights
Use only a recording you made or have permission to process. If another person is humming, obtain their consent before uploading or cloning the voice. Rights differ by plan: Suno’s Free Plan excludes commercial rights; Eleven Music’s commercial rights vary by plan and exclude film, TV, and studio games; Udio disables downloads during its transition period; Loudly says paid licensing depends on plan terms; AIMakeSong limits free outputs to personal use; and Melobytes’ free tier adds a watermark and execution restrictions. Review each service’s current terms before releasing a track or using a recognizable voice.
A Reliable Prompt Template
“Use the uploaded hummed melody as the chorus hook. Preserve its pitch direction, rhythm, rests, and four-bar phrase shape. Write original lyrics about [topic] with [mood]. Arrange [genre] at [tempo] with [instruments]. Keep the verse simpler than the chorus, add a short pre-chorus, and avoid changing the hook’s first [number] notes.”
