In Clip Studio Paint, select your Pen, Pencil, or Brush, open Tool Property, and increase Stabilization. Higher values smooth shaky strokes more aggressively, while lower values keep the line closer to your hand movement.
Stabilization is a setting for the selected tool or brush—not usually a single, canvas-wide switch. The exact path also depends on whether you are using Studio Mode, Simple Mode, and the device or edition you have installed.

These steps apply to Clip Studio Paint Studio Mode on Windows, macOS, tablets, and smartphones:
- Select the Pen, Pencil, or Brush tool.
- Select the specific pen or brush you want to adjust.
- Open the Tool Property palette.
- Find Stabilization and increase its value.
- Draw a few test strokes, then adjust the value until the line feels smooth without becoming unresponsive.
Stabilization is often a slider or numerical setting rather than an on/off checkbox. Increasing it turns on stronger correction for that selected tool.

If Stabilization is missing from Tool Property
The setting may be available but hidden from the compact Tool Property palette.
- Select the brush or pen you want to edit.
- Open Tool Property.
- Click or tap the wrench icon at the bottom of the palette.
- Open the Correction category in Advanced Tool Settings.
- Find Stabilization and adjust it.
- To show it directly in Tool Property, enable the visibility control beside Stabilization.
The wrench opens the full settings for the currently selected tool. Available controls vary by tool, so Stabilization may not appear when a different type of tool is selected. The official brush-customization guide explains the visibility, saving, and reset controls.
Turn on Stabilization in Simple Mode on a smartphone
Smartphone Simple Mode uses a different path:
- Select the brush or pen.
- Open the … menu in the upper-right corner of the Sub Tool palette.
- Choose Change all stabilization/starting and ending settings.
- Turn on or increase Stabilization.
- Draw a test line and adjust the setting if necessary.
For the fuller set of tool controls, switch from Simple Mode to Studio Mode. The documented smartphone procedure is covered in ClipStudioOfficial’s Simple Mode instructions.
What Stabilization does
Stabilization smooths pen input while you draw. A higher value generally produces a cleaner, steadier line; a lower value follows the original hand movement more closely. It can help with slow curves and clean line art, but it cannot guarantee perfectly smooth lines or repair faulty pen hardware, pressure settings, or tablet drivers.

Because the setting belongs to the selected tool or brush, changing it for one inking pen does not necessarily change your pencil, sketch brush, or other tools. Select the actual brush you intend to use before adjusting the setting.

There is no universally correct number. The best setting depends on your drawing speed, hand movement, brush, zoom level, and tolerance for input delay.
| Level | Useful for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Low | Sketching, gesture drawing, and expressive or textured strokes | More natural response, but more hand shake remains |
| Moderate | General line art, inking, and clean illustration | A small amount of delay may be noticeable |
| High | Slow, deliberate curves and long contours | Greater smoothing, but more delay and less immediate control |
Test each setting with a slow curve, a quick stroke, and a diagonal line. Increase Stabilization if slow lines still visibly wobble. Reduce it if the cursor trails behind your hand, corners become difficult, or the brush stops following small movements naturally.
Use Adjust by speed to reduce lag
In the Correction settings, Adjust by speed changes how stabilization responds to drawing speed. This can be useful when slow strokes need extra correction but fast strokes feel delayed.
- Increase stabilization when drawing slowly helps compensate for small shakes during slow strokes.
- Reduce stabilization when drawing quickly decreases stabilization as your drawing speed increases, which can reduce lag during fast marks.
There is an important limitation: when Stabilization is set to 30 or higher, the “Increase stabilization when drawing slowly” mode is disabled. If the speed-based behavior does not seem to work, check both the selected mode and the Stabilization value. The official Correction settings reference documents these options.

Stabilization versus Post correction
| Setting | When it acts | Best used for |
|---|---|---|
| Stabilization | While the stroke is being drawn | Making your hand movement feel steadier in real time |
| Post correction | After the stroke is drawn and after stabilization is applied | Additional cleanup of the finished line |
They are not two names for the same feature. On vector layers, a higher Post correction value can also reduce the number of control points. Avoid setting both controls extremely high without testing: the result may feel over-smoothed or less faithful to your intended stroke.
Save or reset your brush settings
After configuring a brush, open Advanced Tool Settings and choose Save all settings as default if you want the edited settings stored as the default for that tool.
To undo custom changes, choose Reset all settings to default from Tool Property or Advanced Tool Settings. Saving is important because Stabilization is not necessarily a global preference, and switching brushes can load different settings.

The control is not visible
Confirm that a Pen, Pencil, or Brush is selected, then select the exact brush you want to modify. Open the wrench menu, expand Correction, and check whether Stabilization is available. If it is listed there but absent from Tool Property, enable its visibility control.

Correction controls vary by tool. They are used by drawing tools such as Pen and Liquify and by some shape-related tools, including Figure, Balloon, and Frame Border tools, but not every tool exposes the same settings. Select the actual drawing tool before diagnosing a missing control.

The lines still look rough
Make sure you changed the correct brush. A rough appearance may come from the brush’s texture or spacing rather than shaky input. It may also indicate a pen-pressure, stylus, or tablet-driver problem. Increasing Stabilization will not fix faulty hardware or pressure data.
The line lags badly
Lower Stabilization first. If Adjust by speed is enabled, test Reduce stabilization when drawing quickly. You can also test a simpler brush to determine whether the delay comes from the brush itself rather than the correction setting.
The change disappears after switching brushes
This is expected when the brushes have separate settings. Repeat the adjustment for each brush you use, or save the edited brush with Save all settings as default where appropriate.
You are using Clip Studio Paint DEBUT
The current official manual states that brush customization through Advanced Tool Settings is unavailable in DEBUT. Do not assume that every edition exposes the same brush controls; verify the edition and its available settings.
You are using an older tutorial
Interface terminology can vary by version. Version 5.0 changed some labels, including terminology related to Sub Tools and palettes. Follow the current labels in your installation rather than relying on an older screenshot.
Turning Stabilization off
To effectively turn it off for a brush, select that brush, open Tool Property or Advanced Tool Settings, and reduce Stabilization to its lowest available value. Also review Adjust by speed and Post correction if the line still behaves as though correction is active. Repeat this for other brushes because the setting is tool-specific.
Bottom line
In Studio Mode, choose your Pen or Brush, open Tool Property, and increase Stabilization. If you cannot see it, use wrench icon → Advanced Tool Settings → Correction and make the control visible. Smartphone users in Simple Mode should use … → Change all stabilization/starting and ending settings. Start low or moderate, test several strokes, and increase the value only until the line is steady without unwanted lag.
