To upload your own song to Suno and extend it, sign in to Suno, upload an audio file that fits your plan, then use Suno’s extension workflow to generate a continuation from that recording. On the Free Plan, the upload limit is 8 minutes; the plan provides 50 credits per day and does not include commercial rights or stem separation.
Prepare The Song Before Uploading
Use a recording you own or have permission to use. Decide what the continuation should do before you open Suno: add a second verse, build an instrumental break, repeat a chorus with a larger arrangement, or create an ending. Write down the musical details that must stay consistent, such as the vocal identity, tempo feel, key, instrumentation, and lyrical point of view.
- Keep the source recording within your plan’s upload limit. The Free Plan accepts uploads up to 8 minutes.
- Choose a clean section to extend. A clear chorus ending or an instrumental bar line gives the continuation an obvious entry point.
- Save a copy of the original file so you can compare every generated continuation with your source.
- Only upload vocals, samples, or recordings for which you have the necessary consent. Suno’s plan terms determine what use is allowed after generation.
Upload Your Song To Suno
- Open Suno and sign in.
- Open the music creation area and choose the audio-upload action.
- Select your song file and wait for Suno to finish processing it. If the file exceeds your plan’s stated limit, shorten the file and upload the edited copy.
- Review the uploaded recording before generating anything. Note the exact moment where you want the new material to begin, along with the musical elements that must continue.
Suno is available on the web, iOS, and Android. Its editing tools support remixing, extensions, section replacement, and stem export, although stem separation is not included with the Free Plan.

- From the uploaded song, choose Suno’s extension option.
- Describe the continuation in the prompt. State the section you want, the energy change, the instruments that should enter or remain, and whether the vocals should continue the existing idea.
- Keep the first request narrow. For example: “Continue the uploaded song into an eight-bar instrumental bridge; keep the established tempo and vocal atmosphere, add muted electric guitar and low strings, then build into the next chorus.”
- Generate the continuation and listen for timing, melody, voice consistency, and unwanted changes in instrumentation.
- If the result misses one requirement, revise that requirement in the next prompt instead of rewriting every detail. Save the version that best preserves the identity of your original recording.

“Extend the uploaded song with a 16-bar instrumental break. Keep the established groove and harmony, let the main melodic instrument answer the vocal motif, then increase energy for the next chorus.”
Longer Ending
“Create an ending for the uploaded song that repeats the final vocal idea, adds a gradual instrumental lift, and resolves cleanly. Keep the same sonic character and avoid introducing a new lead voice.”

Check Rights Before You Publish
Uploading your own recording does not by itself establish permission for every voice, lyric, sample, or performance inside it. Get consent from other contributors and review Suno’s plan terms before releasing an extended version. The Free Plan specifically excludes commercial rights, so do not assume a free-plan extension can be monetized.

When The Extension Sounds Wrong
- If the continuation changes the song’s identity, restate the elements that must remain fixed: vocal character, tempo feel, instrumentation, and section purpose.
- If the transition feels abrupt, ask for a short bridge or instrumental pickup before the next full section.
- If the generated part adds an unwanted voice or instrument, name the voice or instrument to exclude and regenerate.
- If you need isolated parts for manual repair, remember that stem separation is not included with Suno’s Free Plan.
