Bing Image Creator is now best accessed through Microsoft Designer rather than treated as one fixed Bing webpage. Open Microsoft Designer, sign in with a personal Microsoft account, describe the artwork you want, choose Generate, then download a result or open it for editing. The service is useful for sketches, illustrations, thumbnails and concept art, but expect to refine the first result—and note that Microsoft’s current Designer documentation describes the consumer service as licensed for personal, non-commercial use.
What “Bing Image Creator” means today
Bing Image Creator is a text-to-image service: you describe a scene in ordinary language and an AI model returns image options. Microsoft has moved this experience across product surfaces, so an older guide showing a permanent Bing menu or a fixed model name may no longer match your screen. Designer’s Image Creator is the main browser route; similar creation tools appear in Microsoft Copilot, Windows Photos on supported Copilot+ PCs and SwiftKey.
Keep these functions separate:
- Image search finds existing pictures on the web.
- Image generation creates new visuals from a prompt.
- Designer editing adds layout, text and corrections after generation.
- Copilot image creation may offer reference images, styles and aspect-ratio choices.
- Photos Image Creator is a Windows feature for supported Copilot+ PCs, not the same browser workflow.
Microsoft documentation has described different entry points with different model details, including DALL·E terminology. Treat model names and controls as product-specific and changeable rather than a permanent specification.

What you need before starting
- A personal Microsoft account and an internet connection.
- A supported browser or Microsoft app.
- Access to the feature in your country, account and age group; some functions such as Upscale have regional or age restrictions.
- Permission for every uploaded reference image and for any recognizable person, logo or other protected material it contains.
Work or school Microsoft Entra accounts may not support every Designer editing feature in Windows Photos. Availability also differs between consumer Designer, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Photos and SwiftKey.
Open the current browser version
- Go to https://designer.microsoft.com/.
- Sign in with your personal Microsoft account.
- Choose the image-creation or Image Creator task. The exact label can change.
- Enter a descriptive prompt and select Generate (or the equivalent creation control).
- Compare the returned options. Select one to download it or open it in Designer for editing.
If you cannot find the old “Bing Image Creator” label, that usually reflects a branding or navigation change. Start with Designer instead of searching for an obsolete Bing menu.
Other places to create an image
- Microsoft 365 Copilot: Open the app, choose Create → Create an image, enter a description, optionally add a reference image, select a style and choose Square, Portrait or Wide. Select Create; the result appears in Copilot Library. This route may require an eligible Microsoft 365 subscription, and performance can differ without a Copilot license. See Microsoft’s instructions.
- Windows Photos: On a supported Copilot+ PC, open Photos, choose Image Creator in the left navigation, enter a prompt, review results and save one or create similar images. It requires internet access and a Microsoft account. Details are in the Photos responsible-AI FAQ.
- SwiftKey: In the Android or iOS keyboard, open the emoji/content panel, tap Create (the image icon), describe the image, select a result and share it. It is convenient for quick posts, but offers less control than Designer. See SwiftKey’s guide.
Write a prompt that gives the model something specific to draw
A reliable beginner formula is:
subject + action or pose + setting + composition + lighting + mood + medium/style + color palette + shape

For example:
A red fox reading a book beside a campfire in a misty pine forest, three-quarter view, warm orange light against cool blue shadows, whimsical digital painting, detailed fur, cinematic composition, rich autumn colors.
Microsoft recommends descriptive adjectives, locations and artistic styles. Build a prompt from these ingredients:
- Subject: person, animal, object, landscape or creature.
- Action: running, reading, cooking, flying or looking toward the camera.
- Environment: studio, desert, rainy street or underwater city.
- Composition: close-up, overhead view, wide shot, centered subject or rule of thirds.
- Lighting: golden hour, soft window light, rim lighting or neon reflections.
- Mood: serene, ominous, playful, nostalgic or energetic.
- Medium: oil painting, editorial illustration, 3D render, watercolor or paper cutout.
- Color: muted earth tones, monochrome blue or saturated jewel colors.
Three practical prompt examples
- Photorealistic scene: “Rainy Tokyo side street at night, lone cyclist under a yellow umbrella, eye-level wide shot, neon reflections on wet pavement, cinematic photography, cool blue and magenta palette.”
- Digital illustration: “A tiny lighthouse on a floating island above the clouds, sunrise, wide composition, storybook digital painting, soft pastel colors, clear silhouette.”
- Sticker or icon: “One cheerful orange cat wearing a blue raincoat, centered, bold clean outline, simple flat colors, uncluttered white background, sticker design, no text.”
Describe what must be visible. For a logo, icon or sticker, ask for a clean background and a single subject. If wording will be added later, request an empty sign or clear space rather than trusting the generator with exact copy. Avoid contradictory combinations such as “photorealistic watercolor cartoon oil painting.”

Use iteration instead of expecting a perfect first image
- Generate a broad concept.
- Identify the largest defect: composition, pose, hands, face, object count, text or style.
- Change one or two variables in the prompt.
- Generate again and compare the change.
- Download promising versions before trying another experiment.
- Use Designer’s editing tools for cleanup and layout.
Where available, Enhance prompt can expand a short description. Natural-language constraints such as “single subject,” “uncluttered background” or “no text” can reduce unwanted elements, but they are not guarantees.

AI-rendered lettering remains unreliable. Microsoft warns that generated text can be misspelled or appear in the wrong language. For an invitation, poster, thumbnail, label or logo:
- Generate the illustration or background without relying on embedded wording.
- Leave a clear area for the headline.
- Open the result in Designer and add the exact text manually.
- Proofread names, dates, prices, URLs and spelling at full size.
Depending on the account and surface, Designer can provide generative erase, background removal or blur, framing, text generation and Upscale. Upscaling improves resolution but cannot repair malformed anatomy or incorrect lettering. Generated files include content credentials (provenance metadata identifying AI generation or editing); that metadata supports transparency, not blanket copyright clearance.

Check the image before you publish or share it
- Inspect hands, fingers, eyes, teeth and facial symmetry.
- Look for duplicated jewelry, extra objects, broken reflections and impossible shadows.
- Check clocks, playing cards, signs, logos and every small word.
- Remove unintended people or recognizable private individuals.
- Confirm the aspect ratio and dimensions suit the destination.
- Save the original download and the edited final separately.
Common problems and fixes

Copyright, privacy and safe use
Do not upload confidential documents, unreleased designs, medical images or private photographs unless you understand the applicable privacy terms and have permission. Microsoft says prompts and images used with some Designer editing features undergo abuse monitoring under its privacy statement; see Windows Designer guidance.
Separate these questions:
- What Microsoft’s product license permits.
- Whether you may use an uploaded or reference image.
- Rights in trademarks, logos, celebrities and other likenesses.
- What your country’s copyright law protects, including the role of human creative contribution.
Microsoft’s Copilot guidance says uploaded material must not infringe copyright, trademark, publicity or privacy rights. Avoid asking for an unauthorized living artist’s exact style, a protected logo for commercial use, or deceptive images of real people. Read Microsoft’s image-generation guidance for restrictions.
Can you sell art made with Bing Image Creator?
For the current consumer Designer experience, Microsoft describes the license as personal, non-commercial. Therefore, do not assume you can sell generated prints, use them in paid client work, place them in advertisements or publish them commercially simply because the tool is free. Check the current terms for the exact Microsoft surface, account and intended use before committing to a business project. Also clear the rights to reference images, trademarks and likenesses separately.

Microsoft 365 plans can have their own AI-credit and usage rules. Microsoft’s limits page, updated May 2026, lists 60 monthly AI credits for image generation and editing on Personal and Family plans and describes extensive usage beyond standard limits for Premium; limits can change and credits may cover multiple AI features. As listed on August 18, 2026, Adobe Firefly Standard was $9.99/month with 2,000 generative credits, while Canva listed a free tier and Pro at $144/year for one person. Prices and allowances are time-sensitive; verify them before purchase.
Final quality checklist
- Does the composition match the intended use and aspect ratio?
- Are anatomy, faces, objects and reflections believable at full size?
- Is every word accurate and in the intended language?
- Are there unintended logos, private people or protected references?
- Have you checked the applicable license for your use?
- Is the file clean and large enough for its destination?
The Bottom Line
Use Microsoft Designer as the current starting point for Bing Image Creator: write a specific prompt, iterate on one defect at a time, add important text manually, inspect the downloaded file and verify usage rights before sharing. For the consumer Designer service, treat the documented personal, non-commercial license as the controlling warning.
