Canva’s AI Connector lets you request Canva designs in ChatGPT and, in supported workflows, apply a Brand Kit with your brand’s fonts, colors, and voice. Connect and authorize Canva first, then ask for the design you need and explicitly request the relevant Brand Kit. Plan limits apply to some template and automation features, and a design shown in chat is not saved until you choose Save or Open in Canva.
What Canva and ChatGPT can do together
Canva says its AI Connector, powered by the Canva MCP Server, connects Canva content and design actions to ChatGPT and other supported assistants. In ChatGPT, you can request a design, review options, and open a selected result in Canva for further editing. Canva describes Brand Kit integration as a way to use brand fonts, colors, and voice from the beginning; these are product capabilities and claims, not independently measured guarantees of consistency.

Depending on the assistant and enabled features, the connector can also find existing designs, resize or copy a design, import a design from a URL, turn an image into an editable design, list folder items, and view or reply to comments. OpenAI’s examples include presentations, social carousels, flyers, campaigns, resizing, editing, and variations across formats. Actual available actions can vary by account, plan, assistant, and workspace controls.
For a painting business, for example, you could request a social post promoting a seasonal room-painting service and specify your brand colors, typefaces, tone, and offer details. Treat the returned design as a starting point: check the wording, imagery, legibility, and layout in Canva before publishing.

How to connect Canva and create a design
- Sign in to the Canva account you intend to use. In ChatGPT, open settings and find the Apps or Plugins area, then enable Canva and follow the authorization prompts. Interface labels may change. See Canva’s ChatGPT connection instructions.
- Check workspace permissions if Canva is missing or unavailable. ChatGPT Business and Enterprise workspace administrators may need to enable Apps and Connectors. A Canva team administrator can also restrict AI assistant access.
- Start a chat with Canva enabled and describe the deliverable. Name the format, purpose, audience, style, required copy, and any dimensions or channel. For brand styling, explicitly ask it to use your Brand Kit; if you want a shared Brand Template, name that request too.
- Review the options in ChatGPT. Select a suitable result and open it in Canva to continue editing. Canva is the place to finish detailed layout adjustments and check the design before use.
- Save it to your Canva account. Choose Save or Open in Canva. Canva says a design is saved to your account only when you select one of these options; merely seeing it in chat does not necessarily save it.
Which plan and feature limits matter?
Canva says accounts on Free and Education can connect, and its connector FAQ says all Canva plans can connect. That does not mean every connected feature is available on every plan. Canva’s help and connector pages describe Brand Template access somewhat differently, so check the feature controls for your account rather than assuming every template action has the same eligibility.

For a one-off asset, requesting a design and then finishing it in Canva may be sufficient. Repeated campaigns that need changing data populated into templates are a different workflow and may require Enterprise. Canva’s documentation does not provide a single complete eligibility matrix covering every ChatGPT plan, country, Canva plan, and connector action.

Why the Canva option may be unavailable
- It has not been enabled or authorized: check the Apps or Plugins area in ChatGPT and complete Canva’s authorization flow.
- Your ChatGPT workspace blocks apps: ask the Business or Enterprise administrator whether Apps and Connectors are enabled.
- Your Canva team restricts assistants: ask a Canva team administrator to check the team’s AI assistant access settings.
- The requested action is plan-gated: verify the Canva account’s access to Brand Template search, autofill, or resizing before building a workflow around it.
- The feature is not available in your account: Canva’s newsroom described a rollout of the full-design app to ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro users outside the EU at the time of its announcement. The live help and connector pages do not establish a complete current rollout matrix, so availability should be confirmed in the account rather than assumed.
How to disconnect Canva
Disconnect through ChatGPT’s app controls or Canva’s connected-integration settings. Canva says disconnection removes the assistant’s access immediately, while designs remain in Canva. For the precise account controls, consult Canva’s help page or the AI Connector page.
