I Saw iPolish’s Digital Manicure Change Color in Seconds at CES 2026—Here’s How to Preorder It

iPolish’s digital press-on acrylic nails can change color in about five seconds using a smartphone app and rechargeable Magic Wand. Here’s the $95 preorder reality, what comes in the kit, refill costs, durability claims and what the system cannot do.

At CES 2026, iPolish demonstrated digital press-on acrylic nails that changed color in about five seconds after each nail was inserted into a small handheld wand. The color is selected in a smartphone app, sent to the rechargeable Magic Wand over Bluetooth, and then applied to the nails one at a time.

The important catch: this is not an automated nail-painting robot, a bottle of smart polish, or a manicure that changes color by itself. It is a programmable press-on nail system. iPolish’s U.S. store lists starter kits at $95 as preorders, with orders placed after May 1, 2026, currently projected to ship by the end of August 2026 to the 48 contiguous states. That is an order-now option, but not an immediate in-stock purchase.

What iPolish showed at CES 2026

The CES demonstration looked like a familiar piece of science fiction: a wearer selected a new shade on a phone, touched a nail to a handheld device, and watched the nail change color.

That device is iPolish’s rechargeable Magic Wand. The nails are acrylic press-ons with an embedded color-changing display. The app acts as the color and palette selector, while the wand supplies the brief electrical charge that triggers the change.

iPolish describes the system as supporting more than 300 colors. Some CES coverage cited figures above 400, but the current official FAQ gives the more conservative “over 300” figure. The available color count could change as the app and product catalog develop.

The visual effect has naturally been compared with the color-changing nails in Total Recall and with older temperature-reactive “mood” nail products. The resemblance is mostly conceptual. Traditional mood-changing nails react to heat or temperature; iPolish lets the wearer choose a color in an app and activate it with a wand.

How the color-changing nails work

  1. Choose a color. The wearer selects a shade or palette in the iPolish mobile app.
  2. Connect the app and wand. The app communicates with the Magic Wand over Bluetooth.
  3. Insert one nail into the wand. Each press-on nail must be placed into the wand individually.
  4. Apply the brief charge. The nail changes to the selected shade in approximately five seconds.
  5. Wear the color. The selected color remains until that nail is inserted into the wand again.

The nails themselves do not contain batteries. According to iPolish’s FAQ, the wand provides the power needed for the color transition, so the rechargeable wand is an essential part of the system rather than an optional styling accessory.

Public descriptions of the underlying technology are not perfectly consistent. Tech coverage has referred to electrophoretic nanopolymers, a conductive film, and an electrochemical color-changing process. iPolish’s consumer-facing materials confirm the charge-activated behavior but do not publicly provide enough engineering detail to independently identify the display technology. The safest description is a charge-activated digital display or color-changing nail system; calling it e-ink would go beyond the information currently confirmed.

What you can order now—and what “now” means

The official U.S. store currently lists two starter-kit shapes:

Rank #2

  • Professional and Durable: The led nail lamp uses a professionally designed dual light source, which is durable and can imitate the sunlight.
Item Current listed price Availability information
Long Squoval starter kit $95 Preorder; orders placed after May 1, 2026, are currently projected to ship by the end of August 2026
Medium Ballerina starter kit $95 Preorder; the same current store projection applies to qualifying U.S. orders
Magic Wand $60 Listed at $60, but the product page also carries a preorder notice with shipping by October 31

The starter-kit estimate applies to domestic delivery in the 48 contiguous United States. iPolish’s FAQ gives the broader expectation that starter kits, refills, and accessories will ship during 2026 depending on the preorder date. Fulfillment projections can change, so buyers should check the product page at checkout rather than treating the dates as guaranteed delivery promises.

In other words, you can place an order now, but the verified purchase path is currently a brand-store preorder—not evidence that the system is broadly available for immediate delivery through Amazon or ordinary beauty retailers.

What comes in the $95 starter kit

The starter kit is designed to be a complete application system, not merely a box of novelty nails. The official product listing includes:

  • 24 standard press-on acrylic nails in 12 sizes, with two of each size
  • The rechargeable Magic Wand
  • USB-C charging cable
  • iPolish Hyper Glue
  • Quick Dry Clear Top Coat
  • Dual-edge metal cuticle tool
  • Mini buffer
  • Acetone-free wipe
  • Instructions
  • QR activation code

The activation code is valid for 30 days in the free mobile app during the period of wear, according to the FAQ. iPolish says a paid app subscription is not required.

The included glue and prep tools matter because application is still a conventional press-on manicure process. You must select sizes, prepare the natural nails, apply glue, and attach the press-ons. The digital part begins after the nails are on your fingers; it does not replace the fitting and application work.

How to apply and operate the manicure

Before applying the nails

  1. Check the sizes. Match each press-on to the natural nail it covers most naturally. The 24-nail assortment provides two of each of the 12 included sizes.
  2. Prepare the nail surface. Use the included acetone-free wipe and mini buffer as directed, and gently manage the cuticle area with the included tool.
  3. Dry-fit every nail. Confirm the fit before using glue. A press-on that is too wide or sits against the surrounding skin is more likely to lift.
  4. Apply the press-ons. Use the included Hyper Glue and follow the supplied instructions. Do not assume that a generic glue has been tested or certified by iPolish.
  5. Finish if desired. The kit includes Quick Dry Clear Top Coat.

Changing a color afterward

  1. Open the iPolish app and select the desired color or palette.
  2. Make sure the Magic Wand is charged and connected over Bluetooth.
  3. Insert each nail into the wand in turn.
  4. Wait approximately five seconds for the color transition before moving to the next nail.

That last step is the practical limitation most short CES clips do not show. A ten-finger color change is not one automatic gesture: the nails must be handled individually. The system is better described as a color-on-demand manicure than as a fully automated manicure machine.

How long do the nails last?

iPolish says the digital nails are not currently designed to be reused. If a nail comes off early, the company says it may be reattached provided that the embedded display remains undamaged.

The company gives a seven-day manufacturer’s warranty for continuous use and says the nails have been tested for 14 days of continuous use. Its stated expectation for normal wear is roughly one to three weeks, depending on nail growth and other circumstances.

Those figures should be read as manufacturer guidance, not independent durability testing. CES coverage noted that a proper assessment of quality and reliability would have to wait until products began shipping to customers.

iPolish also says the nails are waterproof for ordinary activities such as swimming and washing dishes. That is a company claim; the available research does not establish independent long-term testing under those conditions.

Refills change the ownership math

Because the digital nails are not presently intended to be reused, the $95 starter kit is only the initial cost. The official FAQ lists a two-nail refill pack at $6.50. Five two-nail packs make a full ten-nail manicure and cost $32.50 at the current price.

That makes the recurring refill cost more important than it would be for ordinary reusable press-ons. Buyers should also distinguish between iPolish’s proprietary digital refills and generic replacement press-on nails. A conventional press-on nail may fit a finger, but it will not provide the app-controlled color-changing function and should not be assumed to work with the Magic Wand.

Who should buy it?

iPolish makes the most sense for someone who values the novelty and flexibility of changing nail color repeatedly without removing the manicure. It could appeal to beauty-tech enthusiasts, people who enjoy coordinated outfits, and anyone interested in a wearable gadget that sits somewhere between cosmetics and consumer electronics.

It is less compelling if your priority is the lowest-cost manicure, instant delivery, minimal maintenance, or a completely hands-off salon-like experience. At $95 before future refills, the starter kit costs substantially more than ordinary press-ons, and every color change still requires a phone, a charged wand, and individual nail handling.

What it is—and what it is not

It is It is not
Acrylic press-on nails with a charge-activated color display A bottle of color-changing nail polish
An app-controlled system supporting over 300 colors A temperature-reactive mood manicure
A rechargeable wand that changes nails one at a time A robot that paints or applies the nails automatically
A $95 starter kit currently listed for preorder A product confirmed to be immediately available everywhere
A proprietary nail-and-wand ecosystem with paid refills A generic press-on nail set with guaranteed compatibility

Should you preorder the iPolish starter kit?

If the CES demonstration is the appeal, the answer is potentially yes—but only with realistic expectations. The current store listing supports ordering a Long Squoval or Medium Ballerina starter kit for $95, and the product includes the wand, nails, glue, prep tools, and app activation. The current projection for orders placed after May 1, 2026, is shipment by the end of August 2026 to the 48 contiguous states.

For readers who want the exact CES product, the brand store is the verified route found in the current research. For readers who simply want an inexpensive color-shifting effect, generic color-changing press-on nails or temperature-reactive “mood” nails may be cheaper, but they are not equivalent. They generally should not be expected to offer iPolish’s app selection, wand activation, or digital color behavior.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is iPolish a nail-painting robot?

No. iPolish is a set of acrylic press-on nails with an embedded color-changing display, a smartphone app, and a rechargeable Magic Wand. You must apply the nails yourself and insert each one into the wand individually when changing colors.

How many colors can iPolish digital nails display?

The current official FAQ says the app and nails support over 300 colors. Some CES reports cited more than 400, but the current official figure is the safer one to use.

Do iPolish nails have batteries?

No. iPolish says the nails contain no batteries. The Magic Wand supplies the brief charge used to trigger the color transition.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How much does the iPolish starter kit cost?

The U.S. store lists Long Squoval and Medium Ballerina starter kits at $95 each. They are preorder listings rather than proof of immediate shipment.

Can iPolish nails be reused?

They are not currently designed to be reused. If one comes off early, iPolish says it may be reattached if the display is undamaged.

Do you need a subscription to use iPolish?

The FAQ says the free mobile app does not require a paid subscription. The starter kit includes a QR activation code described as valid for 30 days during the period of wear.

The Bottom Line

iPolish is a real digital press-on manicure concept, not an automated nail painter: choose a shade in the app, connect the Bluetooth wand, and change each nail in roughly five seconds. The $95 U.S. starter kits can currently be preordered, but expected shipping is later in 2026, and the proprietary nails are not presently designed for reuse. It is an intriguing beauty-tech gadget for early adopters—not yet a friction-free replacement for ordinary polish or a salon manicure.
