Use the outside dimensions for the room plan
Mark a rectangle 65⅜ by 36¼ inches on the floor with painter’s tape or folded paper. Leave the walking and opening space your room requires outside that rectangle rather than treating the published depth as the entire clearance zone. Check nearby radiators, outlets, window trim, cabinet doors and recliner or table movement. The 31⅞-inch height also matters under low windows and shelves.
Check the seating area, not only the shell
For the black Grann/Bomstad wood configuration, IKEA lists a 55⅛-inch seat width, 24-inch seat depth and 18½-inch seat height. For the black leather version, IKEA says GRANN top-grain leather covers the contact surfaces and BOMSTAD coated fabric is used on other surfaces.
