Jack Creasy’s four-and-a-half-year redesign of a 100-year-old Victorian farmhouse in rural Ontario shows how an older house can feel collected, practical and deeply comfortable without losing its architectural identity. The project, featured by House & Home on September 10, 2026, combines British country references with equestrian cues through rich texture, scenic wallpaper, an English-inspired green kitchen, restrained teal and pink accents, custom pieces, considered lighting and furniture intended for lingering.
The result is not a themed riding club or a period reconstruction. It is a layered country-house approach in which color, pattern and comfort support the Victorian shell. That distinction makes the project useful to anyone painting or updating an older farmhouse: preserve what gives the building character, then add atmosphere through surfaces and furnishings that can withstand everyday life.

The project at a glance
The home is a Victorian farmhouse in rural Ontario, designed by Jack Creasy. House & Home describes the finished interior as one that “blends British country and equestrian style.” The feature was published September 10, 2026, and says the redesign took four and a half years.
Those facts establish the project’s broad identity, but not every specification. The published description does not identify the homeowners, the farmhouse’s exact location, the wallpaper maker, paint brands, furniture makers, room dimensions or original construction details. Treat the tour as a design study rather than a product list.
What is clear is the method: inherited Victorian character remains the foundation, while a comfortable country-house mood is built through tactile materials, scenery-inspired pattern, a green kitchen and small doses of unexpected color. Custom pieces, attractive lighting and furniture made for curling up keep the look from becoming merely decorative.
How the Victorian architecture and equestrian mood work together
“Equestrian” can easily become literal if a room is filled with riding trophies, leather logos or stable imagery. Creasy’s approach, as described by the feature, is subtler. The reference is a mood built from countryside associations: practical materials, tailored forms, deep color, old-house pattern and a sense that rooms are meant to be used.
That is especially effective in a Victorian farmhouse because the architecture already supplies visual information. Older trim, proportions, fireplaces, stair parts and irregularities can carry the historical story. New interventions then have a supporting role rather than competing with every original surface.
For a painter, this creates a useful hierarchy:
- Architecture comes first. Keep significant trim, doors and other surviving details legible instead of covering everything in the same flat color.
- Large color fields establish the mood. Walls, ceilings and cabinetry do more work than a collection of small accessories.
- Pattern supplies movement. Scenic wallpaper can make a room feel connected to its rural setting without requiring literal equestrian decoration.
- Comfort prevents preciousness. Upholstery, lighting and furniture should invite use, not just photograph well.
This is an editorial reading of the design language, not a claim that every original feature or material was documented in the tour. The source gives the project’s direction; the practical framework above explains why that direction suits an old farmhouse.

- Natural Cascading Greenery: Long vintage cascading eucalyptus add soft vertical texture without the upkeep of a live plant. Layered sage-green leaves and flowing strands create an easy decorative accent that fills bare edges with lasting greenery.
- Greenery Without Daily Care: No watering, sunlight or soil is needed. This artificial plant indoor gives high shelves and hard-to-reach areas a fresh green look without the time, mess or upkeep of a live plant, ideal for busy homes and plant beginners.
- Layered Leaves, Matte Black Pot: Varied leaf sizes create natural depth, while a slight surface sheen catches indoor light. Bendable stems can be spread and arranged for a fuller drape, and the compact matte black pot gives a clean, finished look.
- Made for Elevated Spaces: Let the fake vines trail from bathroom cabinets, floating shelves, bookcases or kitchens, or use them in dim corners where live plants are inconvenient. The compact design also suits rentals, dorms, offices and other small spaces.
- Clear Size and Setup: Includes one potted faux eucalyptus plant with vines about 24'' long; the pot is about 3 inches high and 2.45 inches wide. Wall planter and hook are not included. If a light packaging scent is present, ventilate before use.
The design ingredients, and what each one contributes
| Element identified in the feature | Visual job | How to interpret it in an older house |
|---|---|---|
| British country references | Creates a relaxed, collected atmosphere rather than a starkly modern interior. | Favor layered color, useful furniture and patterns that can coexist over time. |
| Equestrian references | Adds tailored, rural character and a sense of durable materials. | Use restraint; let proportion, texture and deep hues suggest the idea without turning the room into a theme set. |
| Rich textures | Gives depth to a palette that might otherwise feel heavy or one-dimensional. | Balance painted surfaces with upholstery, woven materials, wood and metal chosen for touch as well as appearance. |
| Scenic wallpaper | Introduces landscape, narrative and pattern across a broad wall area. | Plan the paper around windows, doors, corners and existing trim before ordering or hanging it. |
| English-inspired green kitchen | Provides a strong, room-defining color while retaining a classic country association. | Test green in both daylight and evening light; the same color can shift from fresh to nearly black depending on exposure. |
| Teal and pink accents | Keep the richer scheme from becoming monochrome and add controlled surprise. | Use them as measured notes in upholstery, art or small painted areas rather than repeating them at equal strength everywhere. |
| Custom pieces and comfort-oriented furniture | Makes the rooms feel specific to the occupants and suitable for relaxing. | Measure circulation and seat depth first; a beautiful piece that blocks a doorway undermines the whole scheme. |
| Considered lighting | Reveals texture and changes how deep colors read after sunset. | Layer general, task and accent lighting before choosing final paint colors or sheen. |
Building a British country palette with paint
The feature names a green kitchen and subtle teal and pink accents, but it does not publish paint names or color codes. That means the transferable lesson is about relationships, not a supposedly exact formula.

Start with the room’s fixed conditions
Record the direction of the windows, the color of adjacent rooms, the existing floor and the undertone of permanent stone or tile. In a farmhouse, daylight can vary dramatically from one façade to another. A green that looks soft and olive in a north-facing room may appear much brighter beside warm afternoon light.
Paint large sample boards rather than small squares directly on the wall. Move them around the room for at least a full day, checking morning, midday, artificial light and the gray period just before sunset. This is particularly important when a dark or complex color will cover several walls.
Use a dominant, supporting and accent relationship
A workable country scheme usually has one dominant family, one supporting neutral or related hue and a small accent. In this project, the green kitchen functions as a major color statement, while teal and pink are described as restrained accents. You can translate that logic without copying any unverified paint color:
- Choose the largest painted field first, such as the kitchen cabinetry or principal sitting room walls.
- Select a supporting tone that shares an undertone with the dominant color. A warm off-white, muted stone or softened gray can calm a saturated green without making the room feel sterile.
- Reserve the accent for a few deliberate locations: the inside of a bookcase, a powder-room ceiling, a painted piece of furniture, or textiles that can be changed later.
- Repeat each accent enough to look intentional, but not so often that it becomes a stripe running around the house.
Protect Victorian trim through contrast
Painting every surface the same color can erase the depth that makes an old house appealing. Conversely, a bright white trim against a deep wall can look newly installed even when the woodwork is original. Test the wall and trim together. A slightly lighter version of the wall color, a related warm neutral or a carefully chosen dark trim may preserve the profile more successfully than default white.

Before painting, inspect old coatings for flaking, chalking and failed repairs. Clean gently, stabilize loose areas, fill only where necessary and prime according to the existing surface. If the age or composition of a coating is uncertain, obtain professional advice about safe preparation; older homes can contain hazardous materials in paint or plaster.

Because of the natural material, there will may be a little shrinkage after washing, but it will not affect the continued use
Why scenic wallpaper matters in this scheme
Scenic wallpaper is one of the clearest features named in the tour. It does more than add a pretty pattern. A landscape mural or panoramic scene can visually extend a compact room, connect the interior to the rural setting and supply the variety that a mostly painted palette lacks.
The feature does not identify the installed paper, pattern or retailer, so no specific product can be matched to the farmhouse. “Scenic wallpaper” is best understood as a category-level inspiration phrase, not evidence of a particular listing.
Choose the wall before choosing the scene
Map doors, windows, radiators, built-ins and corners. A scenic pattern needs enough uninterrupted surface for its composition to read. If the focal point lands behind a tall cabinet or is cut through a doorway, the paper may feel accidental. In a small room, a less crowded scene can be more successful than a highly detailed mural.

Coordinate paint with the wallpaper’s quietest tones
Once a paper is selected, sample its background and secondary colors on the actual wall. Use one of those quieter tones for neighboring painted surfaces rather than matching the most obvious green, blue or pink in the scene. This lets the wallpaper remain the visual event while the rest of the room supports it.
Prepare old walls carefully
Wallpaper magnifies ridges, dents and uneven joints. Remove loose material, repair failures, smooth the surface and use the primer recommended for the paper. In a Victorian house, walls may not be perfectly square; plan the first drop and corner transitions so small irregularities do not accumulate into a visible misalignment.
The green kitchen: a practical focal point
An English-inspired green kitchen can anchor an open or connected plan because it reads as both color and furniture. The source does not state whether the green appears on cabinets, walls or another surface, so the application should not be presented as documented fact. The design principle remains useful: give the working room a color with enough depth to feel intentional, then let hardware, worktops, lighting and adjacent paint keep it livable.

- Extensive Applications:These dining room table centerpieces are not only great for everyday home decoration, but also make perfect gifts for your family or friends who love farmhouse decor.Candle holder decors create a warm, inviting atmosphere in your living room, bedroom, dining room, and more.
Sample the green beside the countertop, floor and backsplash under the actual fixtures. Sheen affects perception: a more reflective finish will show surface variation and bounce light, while a lower sheen can make a deep color look quieter. The correct choice depends on the substrate, cleaning demands and the manufacturer’s guidance, not on the farmhouse feature alone.
If the kitchen connects directly to a sitting or dining area, repeat only a small part of the kitchen color elsewhere. A teal cushion, a painted cabinet interior or a piece of art can establish continuity without turning every room green.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Texture, lighting and furniture make the scheme comfortable
Rich texture is not synonymous with visual clutter. It is the difference between a room that looks interesting in a still image and one that remains pleasant at arm’s length. Combine surfaces that respond differently to light: matte painted walls, a nubby textile, smoother wood, a woven element and a small amount of reflective metal or glass. The feature identifies rich textures but does not specify materials, so these are practical interpretations rather than a reconstruction of Creasy’s selections.
Lighting deserves equal weight. Deep greens, teal and scenic patterns can flatten under one central ceiling fixture. Before final color decisions, establish at least three layers where the room requires them:
- Ambient light for safe movement and overall illumination.
- Task light at work surfaces, reading chairs or preparation areas.
- Accent light to reveal wallpaper, artwork, joinery or a textured wall after dark.
Furniture “made for curling up,” as the feature describes it, signals a performance requirement: seats should support long use. Check the distance between a sofa and coffee table, leave clear paths through the room and provide a place to set down a drink or book. Custom work is valuable when it solves those practical constraints, not merely when it adds unusual shape.

- Easy to Assemble: With easy-to-understand installation instructions, numbered accessories and mounting tools in the package, you can assemble the ladder shelf quickly and easily
- Identify the architectural anchor. It might be original trim, a fireplace, a stair, a ceiling height or simply the room’s best window. Do not let new paint obscure it by default.
- Set a comfort brief. Decide how the room will be used, where people will sit and what must be easy to clean. Select furniture dimensions before committing to a decorative scheme.
- Pick one deep or complex color. Test it on boards in changing light. Green is the documented example in Creasy’s kitchen, but the method works with other hues.
- Add one pattern source. Scenic wallpaper is the feature’s strongest example. If wallpaper is too much for your room, use a smaller patterned surface while keeping the same landscape-oriented idea.
- Introduce two restrained accents. Teal and pink are the colors named in the tour. Use comparable accents at modest scale and repeat them with intention.
- Reassess the transition spaces. Stand in the hall and look into adjoining rooms. A country-house scheme feels coherent when colors change gradually or share an undertone.
- Finish with lighting and touch. Install or position lighting, then evaluate whether the painted surfaces and textiles still have depth after sunset.
Preservation versus intervention: the useful design tension
The most instructive comparison in this project is not between two decorating styles. It is between preserving architectural character and adding contemporary comfort. Too much preservation can leave a house feeling like a museum; too much intervention can make the original building disappear.
Four editorial axes help you make decisions:
- Architectural preservation versus new intervention: keep elements that explain the building, and make new work legible rather than pretending it is original.
- Pattern density: use scenic wallpaper or upholstery where the room can absorb a focal pattern; keep nearby surfaces quieter.
- Color saturation: allow one confident color statement, then moderate the supporting palette.
- Everyday comfort: judge furniture, lighting and finishes by how they function at night, during cleaning and during ordinary gatherings.
These are analytical lenses, not claims that the source documents a formal comparison. They explain why the combination of Victorian character, country references and comfort feels balanced rather than theatrical.
What the published feature establishes—and what it leaves open
The documented facts are specific: Jack Creasy designed a Victorian home in rural Ontario; House & Home published the feature on September 10, 2026; the redesign took four and a half years; and the description highlights British country and equestrian style, rich textures, scenic wallpaper, an English-inspired green kitchen, subtle teal and pink accents, custom pieces, lighting and furniture intended for relaxing.

It also contains no named quotation from Creasy and no study statistic. Keeping those boundaries clear makes the design lessons more reliable: borrow the relationships among color, pattern, texture and comfort, but do not mistake an atmospheric home tour for a complete materials schedule.
The lasting lesson for painters and renovators
Creasy’s farmhouse is persuasive because its style is carried by coordinated decisions rather than by a single novelty. A deep kitchen color, a scenic wall, tactile surfaces, thoughtful light and furniture designed for use can all coexist with Victorian architecture when each intervention respects the room around it.
For your own project, begin with the building, test color under real light, plan wallpaper around the architecture and make comfort a measurable requirement. That process captures the spirit of this rural Ontario makeover without pretending that an unverified paint chip or product list can reproduce it.
