Kane and Katelyn Brown’s home in Whites Creek, Tennessee, is less a conventional celebrity mansion than a private family compound engineered for constant use. The property occupies more than 26 wooded acres, backs onto another 500 acres of forest and sits about 20 minutes outside Nashville. A pool house, bunk room, schoolroom, children’s playhouse and 11,400-square-foot barn give the household places to host friends, educate three children, make music, exercise and store an unusually large car collection.

The acreage creates distance without isolating the family from Nashville. The house is roughly a 20-minute drive from the city, while the forest behind the property makes the residence feel far more remote. The residence started as a three-bedroom house. As the Browns’ family grew to three children, the building expanded in stages instead of being replaced outright. Katelyn says, “We love to have company.” Friends regularly stay in the pool house and bunk room, while larger gatherings move into the barn. When the guest count exceeds the beds, visitors have even slept on air mattresses laid out on the basketball court. The arrangement treats hospitality as a normal household function, not an occasional event that requires rearranging every room.

The barn is the clearest example of a practical requirement scaled up to celebrity proportions. At 11,400 square feet, it is large enough to combine facilities that would usually be scattered across a gym, studio, garage and entertainment annex.

That figure helps explain why fuel access matters when the collection includes high-consumption performance cars. The island changed the way the room works
The original kitchen island seated only three people. Katelyn wanted children and guests to remain close while she cooked, so the island and surrounding layout were redesigned to make conversation and supervision easier. The goal was not merely a larger work surface; it was a kitchen that could function as the household’s social center.

Children’s rooms are designed to change with use
A playhouse that supports several kinds of play
The outdoor playhouse, designed with Cara Brock Interiors and built by Chad Till, is intentionally more than a small clubhouse. Its elements include a slide, rock wall, mock store, castle, tunnel, lookout tower and stage. Children can move from physical play to pretend commerce, climbing, hiding or performing without leaving the structure.

Bedrooms and the schoolroom
Children’s bedrooms use Thibaut wallpaper, Bella Notte Linens and custom beds. A former office became a combined homework, craft and playroom because the children are homeschooled. The conversion shows how the house adapts existing rooms instead of assigning every activity to a purpose-built wing.
Designer Cara Brock described the result this way: “We’ve just transformed it into a very family-oriented house, and that brings me tons of joy.” The emphasis is on flexible rooms that can support supervision, creativity and schoolwork throughout the day.
Outdoor amenities extend the social plan

Several additions remain ideas or future possibilities rather than confirmed completed projects. Kane has considered extending the pool, adding a par-three course, building a two-story plumbed treehouse connected by a bridge and placing prefabricated tiny homes on the property for friends and family. Those plans illustrate the compound’s direction, but they should not be mistaken for existing amenities.

A restrained material palette
The interiors rely on white oak floors, plaster-like walls, earth tones and black accents. These choices reduce the visual chill that can accompany very large rooms. Warm wood gives circulation areas a residential feel, while dark details add definition without filling the spaces with ornament.
Salvage adds history
Wood salvaged from the original floors of a Mississippi tobacco farm was reused as the family-room mantel. That material brings irregular grain and a sense of age into a newly expanded compound, making the largest room feel connected to a specific place rather than assembled from anonymous luxury finishes.
Furniture and lighting keep rooms livable
The tour identifies pieces from Currey & Co., Four Hands, Meridian Home, Visual Comfort & Co., Graham’s Lighting, Arteriors and Regina Andrew Detroit. Used alongside the oak, plaster-like surfaces and earth-toned upholstery, these furnishings create layered rooms instead of one monumental showroom.

How to borrow the playhouse idea at a smaller scale
A family does not need a celebrity-sized property to use the same design logic. The Browns’ playhouse works because it combines movement, imagination and gathering in one footprint. A practical backyard version can follow these steps:
- Start with supervision. Place the structure where adults can see it from the kitchen, patio or another frequently used room.
- Choose two or three durable activity types. A low climbing wall, slide and small stage provide physical, imaginative and social play without overcrowding the building.
- Build in changeable space. Use open floor area, shelves or removable props so the room can become a shop, classroom, theater or reading nook.
- Separate high-energy and quiet zones. Put climbing and sliding outside or along one wall, leaving a clear interior area for crafts and pretend play.
- Plan for growth. A lookout, platform or stage can remain useful after a child outgrows toddler equipment; avoid designing every surface around one age.
- Check access and maintenance before construction. Confirm drainage, sightlines, safe climbing heights, durable finishes and a route for moving replacement parts or cleaning equipment.
The key lesson is adaptability. The Browns’ structure is memorable because it offers several ways to play, not because it reproduces the scale of the house.

This compound feels lavish because its practical answers are unusually large, not because practicality was ignored.
