These figures are from the Intergard 345 worldwide TDS, issued 22 September 2015. The manufacturer’s product page also lists 70% volume solids, 320 g/L VOC under the EPA method, and a DFT range of 100–150 microns. Use the documentation applicable to the product supplied for a particular job.
What film thickness and coverage does the datasheet specify?
The worldwide TDS gives a typical DFT range of 100–150 microns (4–6 mils). It recommends at least 100 microns DFT for moderately corrosive environments and permits a single coat at 80 microns for low-corrosivity C2 conditions. These are manufacturer recommendations for the stated environments; the project specification determines the coating system and required thickness.
#1 Best Overall
- High-build two part epoxy primer and barrier coat for use above and below the waterline
- Excellent for gelcoat blister prevention and repair work on fiberglass boats
- Provides superior protection on all underwater metals
- Easy to mix and apply by roller or spray. No sanding required. Fast drying primer creates a flexible, durable epoxy barrier coat.
- Available in White or Gray in Quart or Gallon sizes. Coverage: 225 sq. ft. per gallon (at 7 mils wet). Thinner: TotalBoat Epoxy Primer Thinner 200.
Coverage is theoretical, not a promise of how much area a kit will cover on site. The stated 5.60 m²/L is calculated at 125 microns DFT; 225 sq ft/US gallon is stated at 5 mils DFT. Surface profile, application method, overspray and other losses affect actual consumption, so allow appropriate loss factors when estimating.
How do you mix Intergard 345, and how long is its pot life?
Mix the complete supplied unit at 4 parts Part A to 1 part Part B by volume. The TDS provides these working pot lives at the listed temperatures:

Rank #2
- Ideal for use on fiberglass, wood or metal surfaces above the waterline
- Oil-based formula is flexible and applies easily with excellent leveling
- Dries to the touch in as little as 1 to 2 hours and covers up to 100 sq ft
- Durable coating resists abrasion and extreme weather conditions and provides long-lasting UV protection
- Superior gloss retention and smooth finish help maintain the beauty and elegance of your surfaces
| Temperature | Pot life |
|---|---|
| 10°C | 3 hours |
| 15°C | 2 hours |
| 25°C | 60 minutes |
| 40°C | 45 minutes |
Pot life shortens as temperature rises. Plan mixing and application so the material can be used within the applicable time; do not assume leftover mixed coating remains usable after that period.
Which application methods and thinning instructions are listed?
The TDS lists airless spray, air spray, brush and roller. It identifies airless spray as the best method for achieving maximum film build in one coat. Brush or roller application may require multiple coats to achieve the specified total system thickness.
Rank #3
- Ideal for use on fiberglass, wood or metal surfaces above the waterline
- Oil-based formula is flexible and applies easily with excellent leveling
- Dries to the touch in as little as 1 to 2 hours and covers up to 100 sq ft
- Durable coating resists abrasion and extreme weather conditions and provides long-lasting UV protection
- Superior semi-gloss retention and smooth finish help maintain the beauty and elegance of your surfaces
Thinning is not normally required. The sheet lists International Thinners GTA220 or GTA415 as thinner options and GTA220 for equipment cleaning. Because products and instructions can vary by region, verify the local TDS and SDS before using any thinner or cleaner.
What surface preparation and conditions are required?
Steel
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of contamination. The worldwide TDS specifies abrasive blast cleaning steel to Sa 2½ under ISO 8501-1:2007 or SSPC-SP6. If oxidation occurs between blasting and coating, the sheet calls for reblasting to the specified visual standard.
Rank #4
- Durable, High-Gloss Marine-Grade Paint: TotalBoat Wet Edge provides a beautiful, scratch-resistant, chemical-resistant finish with maximum color and gloss retention.
- Easy To Apply 1-Part Formula: Get professional results with either the roll & tip method using a brush and roller or by spraying. For use above the waterline only.
- Versatile Topside Paint: Wet Edge is easy to clean and resists fading, cracks, and peels. Designed for multi-season beauty on power boat hulls, sailboat hulls, campers, RV exteriors, doors and trim.

- Choose From 22 Popular High-Gloss Colors: Available in Quarts & Gallons, with 350-400 sq. ft. per gallon for coverage. White, Black & Gray also available in flat finish. Use with TotalBoat Topside Primer or TotalProtect for metals.
Concrete
The TDS gives separate concrete instructions: allow at least 28 days’ cure and keep moisture content below 6%. It recommends thinning the first coat by 10–15% with International Thinners so it can act as a penetrating primer or sealer. These directions are for concrete; do not apply them to steel work.
Temperature, dew point and ventilation
- Intergard 345 will not cure adequately below 5°C. For maximum performance, the manufacturer recommends ambient curing above 10°C.
- Keep the substrate temperature at least 3°C above the dew point.
- Provide adequate ventilation in confined spaces.
- Dew or rain before the coating reaches hard dry may affect its appearance and potentially its performance.
Which primers and topcoats are compatible?
The worldwide TDS names Intercure 200HS, Intercure 200, Intergard 251, Intergard 269, Intergard 345, Interzinc 52 and Interzinc 315 as primers over which Intergard 345 may be applied. Listed recommended topcoats are Interfine 629HS, Intergard 740, Interthane 870 and Interthane 990. For combinations not listed, the manufacturer advises consulting International Protective Coatings.
Best Value
- Ideal for use on fiberglass, wood or steel surfaces to prevent fouling below the waterline
- Formulated to slowly release copper in order to prevent fouling
- Able to recoat in 4 hours, to launch in 16 hours and covers up to 110 sq ft
- Protective coating resists buildup of barnacles, algae and other marine growth
- Hard, smooth finish provides a flat sheen over most aged antifouling coatings
Intergard 345, like other epoxies, can chalk and discolour with exterior exposure; the TDS says this does not harm anticorrosive performance. Where durable gloss and colour retention matter, use a recommended topcoat as part of the specified system.
What do the VOC figures mean?
The 2015 worldwide TDS reports typical VOC values using three different methods: 320 g/L under EPA Method 24, 235 g/kg under the EU Solvent Emissions Directive, and 214 g/L under Chinese standard GB23985. These method-specific values are not directly interchangeable. The TDS also notes that results can vary with colour and manufacturing tolerances; use the locally applicable documentation for regulatory or project decisions.
Which datasheet should you use?
The figures above come from the worldwide TDS issued 22 September 2015. An official US-format TDS is dated 26 April 2018, while the manufacturer’s accessible product page lists several headline values that align with the worldwide sheet. The manufacturer warns that its TDS may be modified and says: “It is the user’s responsibility to check with their local representative that this data sheet is current prior to using the product.” Confirm the current regional version and the product label before specifying or applying the coating.
International Protective Coatings describes the product as intended only for professional applicators in industrial situations and requires reference to the SDS. Follow the current SDS, container instructions and applicable industrial safety controls; this is not a general consumer paint.
