The Louis Moinet Space Revolution is a mechanical wristwatch designed as a moving cosmic scene: two spacecraft circle beneath a sapphire dome while satellite-shaped tourbillon cages rotate on separate levels. Its spectacle is also its concept. Louis Moinet presents the watch as “Cosmic Art,” where astronomical imagery and watchmaking mechanics become one object worn on the wrist.
What is the Louis Moinet Space Revolution?
Space Revolution is a high-complication wristwatch from Louis Moinet, built around a kinetic display rather than a conventional, static dial. Beneath its sapphire dome, two spacecraft face one another as the watch’s tourbillons turn in opposing directions. The composition makes the movement itself part of the visual artwork: the time display sits within a miniature orbital theatre.
In an 18 October 2021 aBlogtoWatch interview, journalist Ariel Adams framed the watch within the tradition of “wearable mechanical art.” Jean-Marie Schaller, Louis Moinet’s chief executive, connected the design to the brand’s astronomical heritage and to its paired ideas of Mechanical Wonders and Cosmic Art. In his words, “Space Revolution is art. The purpose of art is to bring of a new vision of the world.”

Louis Moinet’s launch description, published on 26 August 2020, calls the mechanism a flying satellite double tourbillon. Two spacecraft move at different rates: the upper spacecraft completes a clockwise rotation every five minutes, while the lower one turns counter-clockwise every ten minutes. The two tourbillon cages rotate on separate levels and in opposite directions, creating a layered, continuously changing display.

The brand’s 2020 video and news material describes eighteen spacecraft encounters per hour. That is Louis Moinet’s description of the display, not a general measure of the watch’s timekeeping performance. The visual effect is the point: the spacecraft and rotating cages create motion that can be read as a celestial choreography rather than a simple indication of time.
What are the watch’s materials and dimensions?
For the LM-104.50.52 limited-edition reference, Louis Moinet’s product page specifies a 43.5 mm 18K red-gold base, sapphire, hours and minutes, a black aventurine dial, an alligator strap and a folding clasp. The brand says development of the mechanism took more than three years. The 2021 interview narrative gives a 43 mm width; the official product-page specification is 43.5 mm.
The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève’s Space Revolution entry records more than 470 components and six ceramic ball bearings. These figures point to the construction’s mechanical density, but they do not by themselves establish accuracy, service intervals or everyday durability.
How many Space Revolution watches were made?
Louis Moinet’s 2020 launch announcement identifies eight examples of the LM-104.50.52 limited edition in 18K red gold and sapphire. It also lists four additional unique timepieces under separate references. The launch page marks some of those unique pieces as sold; that historical status does not establish present-day availability.

Why does Louis Moinet call it “Cosmic Art”?
Space Revolution combines a recognisable watchmaking complication with imagery that evokes spacecraft, orbit and astronomical observation. Schaller’s interview comments place that approach in the context of Louis Moinet’s interest in astronomy and its Cosmic Art program, which draws on celestial bodies, meteorites and materials that have travelled in space. The interviews also describe the brand’s historical associations with early chronograph development and astronomy; those are the interview’s historical framing, rather than a claim that the contemporary watch reproduces a historical instrument.
That makes the artistic question more specific than whether the watch is “art” or “a watch.” It is a functioning mechanical timepiece whose moving architecture is deliberately staged for visual impact. The wearer encounters the time display, but also an animated object with a distinct cosmic narrative. Its artistic identity depends on the same mechanism that makes it a watch.
What does the Space Revolution cost, and is it available?
No authoritative current public price is established by the sources available here. Louis Moinet’s launch page records edition details and historical availability notes, but those do not confirm live stock. A current price or an authorized listing should therefore be checked directly with Louis Moinet or an authorized retailer rather than inferred from the limited-edition status.
What happened to the Space Revolution NFTs?
Louis Moinet’s Discover page records a collaboration with 3D creator Tafi for 1,000 watch-themed Space Revolution NFTs intended for the Exclusible marketplace. That dated brand statement documents a past collaboration; it is not evidence that the NFTs are currently available for sale.
