ISPS Innovations’ surface families can give a bathroom a coordinated, made-to-measure look, but they are not interchangeable products. Bonethane is presented as a polymer splashback and wall-panel range; IPA Acrylic is the acrylic-panel family listed for shower walls and wet areas; CulourTek is a custom surface range whose current descriptions focus on benchtops, doors and related components. A product-page description does not, by itself, establish that every panel can be used in every shower construction. The installer, designer and manufacturer need to agree on the complete assembly.
Start with the wet-area question, not the colour card
Before choosing a finish, define where water, steam, heat and cleaning chemicals will reach the surface. A panel beside a basin has a different exposure profile from a panel inside a shower, and a splashback behind a cooktop has a different heat question from a bathroom wall. Use the following brief for each surface:

- Location: shower wall, bath wall, vanity wall, basin splashback, laundry or another area.
- Water exposure: direct spray, intermittent splashing, condensation or essentially dry conditions.
- Heat exposure: sunlight through a window, heated towel rails, steam, radiant heaters or nearby appliances.
- Dimensions: finished height and width, number of panels, access constraints and maximum piece size available for transport.
- Openings: mixers, shower controls, niches, outlets, mirrors, lights, wastes and basin cut-outs.
- Base construction: the wall lining, framing, existing tiles or other substrate, and who is responsible for preparing it.
- Maintenance: the cleaning products the household intends to use and whether the manufacturer permits them.
This short brief prevents a common mistake: selecting a colour first and discovering later that the required joint, edge, sealant or substrate is unavailable for the intended location.
A practical workflow for a custom bathroom
1. Record the room before demolition
Measure every wall that may receive a panel, including out-of-square corners, nib walls, window reveals and the floor-to-ceiling height. Photograph services before they are covered. Mark the centre lines of wastes, mixers, shower outlets, niches, mirrors and electrical points. A fabricator can only cut accurately from dimensions that have been checked on site.
2. Establish the waterproofing responsibility
Ask who designs and certifies the wet-area waterproofing: the builder, waterproofing contractor, installer or another party. Confirm whether the panel is installed over a compliant waterproofed lining, whether a membrane must continue behind it, and how penetrations are sealed. Do not treat a decorative panel as a substitute for the underlying waterproofing system unless current manufacturer documentation expressly says so.

3. Choose the material family
Use Bonethane when the approved specification calls for its polymer panel construction; use IPA Acrylic when the quotation and technical documents identify the acrylic product for the proposed wet-area application. Compare the actual sample, not only a digital image. Two samples with similar colours can differ in gloss, texture, edge appearance and how they meet at a joint.
4. Coordinate the vanity early
If the brief includes a CulourTek vanity, finalise the basin type, tap position, overflow, mirror, wall upstand and cabinetry before the top is cut. Confirm whether the vanity top is supplied as part of a cabinet package or as a separate custom surface. A change in basin model can alter the cut-out, tap-hole spacing and the amount of material around the edge.
5. Draw the panel layout
Have the installer or fabricator mark panel boundaries on an elevation. Decide where joins fall in relation to corners, niches, mixers and the sightline from the bathroom door. A symmetrical layout may use more material but can look calmer than a layout that leaves a narrow strip beside a doorway. Record which edges are factory-finished and which will be sealed or covered by a trim.
6. Approve a written fabrication schedule
The schedule should list each panel or top by room, finished dimensions, material name, colour or print reference, finish, cut-outs, edge treatment, joint detail and tolerances. Sign off only after checking the handing of mirrored or directional patterns. Keep the approved sample and schedule with the contract.
How to assess shower-wall-panel installation
Substrate and waterproofing interface
Request a drawing or written method that identifies the substrate, adhesive or fixing system, membrane location and sealant. Ask how the system handles movement at corners and at the junction with the shower floor or bath. The correct detail may depend on the existing wall construction, so a generic statement that a panel is “waterproof” is not enough to approve a shower installation.

Joints, corners and penetrations
Every joint is a design and maintenance point. Confirm whether internal corners are butt-jointed, sealed, trimmed or formed from a single piece. Require a detail for mixer penetrations, shower outlets, niches, shelves, windows and the bottom edge. The written method should specify compatible sealants and how they are replaced if they fail.
Heat and cleaning exposure
The available product descriptions do not state comparative heat limits or a universal list of permitted cleaners for Bonethane and IPA Acrylic. Ask for those limits for the exact grade and finish. Obtain written advice before using abrasive powders, solvent-based products, steam cleaners, hair-dryer heat at close range or strong disinfectants.

Designing a CulourTek vanity surface
CulourTek is identified by ISPS as a custom surface range, with current material describing benchtops, doors and related products. The title’s use of “CulourTek vanities” may refer to a vanity top or a broader vanity package, but the exact configuration is not established by that description. Confirm it directly with ISPS before presenting the product as a complete vanity.

- whether the basin is inset, under-mounted, vessel or integrated;
- the cut-out template and the permitted minimum edge distances;
- the position and drilling method for tap holes and accessories;
- how the top is supported and fixed to the cabinet;
- the treatment of the wall upstand, side returns and exposed front edge;
- the joint detail where two pieces meet; and
- the care instructions for water, cosmetics, hair products and cleaning agents.
Coordinate the vanity surface with the shower panels by comparing physical samples under the bathroom’s actual lighting. A high-gloss top can reflect a different tone from a satin wall panel even when the colour reference is nominally the same.

Colour, print and visual coordination
ISPS describes custom-coloured acrylic and Bonethane polymer splashbacks, so a scheme can be built around a restrained neutral, a saturated colour or a more graphic treatment where the selected product and finish allow it. Treat “custom” as an invitation to confirm options, not as proof that every colour, pattern or size is available in every material.
Use a sample board containing the wall panel, vanity top, tap finish, grout or sealant sample, mirror edge and flooring. View it in daylight and under the room’s planned artificial lighting. Record the sample codes and batch information on the approval sheet. If a print has a directional image, indicate the top edge and the intended orientation on every elevation.
