Krita 5.2.14, released December 11, 2025, was the final bug-fix release in the 5.2 series at that time. It lets you bring up the color picker by holding one finger on the canvas, and changes the sampler preview from two rectangles to a customizable circle around the cursor.
The one-finger gesture is enabled by default in all input profiles. If it is missing from your setup, Krita recommends resetting canvas input settings or assigning the One Finger Hold gesture manually.
How do I pick a color in Krita with one finger?
- Press one finger on the canvas.
- Hold it in the same spot to bring up the color picker.
- Release when you are ready to continue working.
The official monthly update identifies the default gesture action as “Sample Foreground Color From Merged Image.” The gesture is enabled by default across input profiles, but a customized profile may change its assignment.

How do I change the color picker preview in Krita?
In 5.2.14, the preview changed from adjacent rectangles to a circle around the cursor. Krita says the circle can improve visibility when a drawing hand might otherwise cover the preview on a screen tablet. The circle’s size can be adjusted through Settings > General > Cursor, and users can return to the two-rectangle style.

The rectangles can be positioned to the right, left, or above the cursor. The preview also stays in the same location when the canvas is rotated; it no longer rotates or mirrors with the canvas.
| Preview style | What you can adjust |
|---|---|
| Circle | Adjust its size and appearance; it surrounds the cursor. |
| Two rectangles | Restore the previous style and position it to the right, left, or above the cursor. |
Krita describes these as customization options, not as a measured comparison showing that one preview is better for everyone. Choose the appearance and placement that are easiest for you to see.

The same announcement described Krita on ChromeOS as ready for production and Krita on Android as beta, with a large-screen interface intended for tablets rather than Android phones. These are statements from the 5.2.14 announcement, not independently rechecked support guarantees for later releases.
The one-finger feature is a software input option, not a stated hardware requirement. Krita mentions screen tablets as a drawing context but does not recommend a particular device.
