Layla’s January 12, 2026 post on The Lettered Cottage pairs two intimate subjects: a library loft formed from an old balcony area and Allen Levi’s novel Theo of Golden. How the library loft came to exist

The quotation explains why the pencil portraits matter beyond their physical ownership. - Are the joists, connections and supporting walls adequate after any opening is cut?
- Do stairs, handrails and guards meet current local requirements?
