The Lotta Snuggler is a baby-swaddle sewing pattern by Lotta Jansdotter, available as a tiled PDF linked by Make:. It includes a foot pocket and hook-and-loop closure placement, but the accessible pattern does not establish a finished size or official age range. If you sew it, treat it as a sewing project—not as a substitute for current infant safe-sleep guidance.
Where to find the Lotta Snuggler pattern
Make: links to the Lotta Snuggler pattern page, which describes the download as a tiled pattern for standard 8½-by-11-inch paper. The publisher says the project first appeared in 2009 and that the PDF was updated in 2010 for tiled printing. The pattern is also included in Lotta Jansdotter’s Simple Sewing for Baby: 24 Easy Projects for Newborns to Toddlers; the book is not required to download the separately hosted PDF.
Open the Snuggler Pattern PDF and print its pages at actual size, checking the print settings before assembly so the pattern dimensions are not scaled.

The pattern PDF shows a main Snuggler shape split across pattern sections, a separate foot pocket, darts, fold and notch markings, and placement for two fabric layers and hook-and-loop tape. It specifies a half-inch seam allowance and labels a 3-inch total length for the indicated hook-and-loop piece. These are details shown in the document, not results from an independent construction or fit test.

Materials and planning
The PDF describes medium-weight cotton and a softer lining such as microfleece, and marks the closure placement. When choosing materials, consider the fabrics’ feel and weight, their care instructions, and how the closure will be applied. The pattern does not establish that any particular fabric or lining is suitable for every baby or sleep environment.
Size and fit: what is and is not specified
The accessible primary PDF does not give a reliable finished measurement or a formal age range. A 2021 maker account says the pattern fit a newborn and that the maker’s child outgrew it within two months; that is one family’s experience, not an official size specification or promise of fit. If fit matters, check the complete instructions and measure the pattern pieces rather than relying on an assumed age or period of use.

Safe-sleep guidance for swaddling
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says swaddling does not reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). A swaddled baby should be placed on their back, and the wrap should allow room for breathing and hip movement. The AAP advises: “Stop swaddling as soon as your baby shows any signs of trying to roll over.” See the AAP’s swaddling guidance and its safe-sleep recommendations.

- Do not use weighted swaddles, which the AAP advises against.
- Keep loose blankets and other loose bedding out of an infant’s sleep area.
- Take overheating into account; a warm lining is not automatically appropriate for sleep.
The CDC reported on September 25, 2024, that one cited report found babies sleeping on soft bedding such as sheets, comforters, and blankets had a 16-fold higher chance of sleep-related suffocation than babies without soft bedding. That statistic concerns soft bedding in sleep environments; it is not a finding about this sewing pattern. See the CDC’s information on sudden unexpected infant death.
