Maker Faire Miami took place April 15–16, 2023, at the Watsco Center on the University of Miami campus. Make: described the edition as the fair’s 10th anniversary celebration. Its preview promised a broad mix of robotics, electronics, drones, digital art, and hands-on craft—not a single-focus technology expo. The dates are past; the official homepage now lists April 17–18, 2027 as a save-the-date.
What the 2023 Maker Faire Miami preview announced
Maker Faire is a gathering where makers share hobbies, experiments, and projects. For Miami’s 2023 edition, the preview described exhibits and activities across several disciplines. The examples below reflect what the preview announced, not a complete account of what visitors ultimately saw.

- Electronics: Microcontroller projects, including a Gunpla model fitted with a servo, LED, USB camera, and Arduino board, as well as cardboard kits for Scratch and Arduino.
- Drones: A Drone Zone activity where visitors could learn to fly a first-person-view (FPV) drone. Its camera is mounted at the front of the drone, so the pilot can see a forward-facing view.
- Digital making and art: Digital art, 3D modeling, and screen printing paired with an augmented-reality shirt design.
- Wearable craft: Charlyn Gonda’s glowing interactive jewelry made with CircuitPython.
The variety made the preview relevant to people interested in both building and creative practice. CW&T, the art and design practice of Che-Wei Wang and Taylor Levy, described an iterative process of sketching, prototyping, testing, coding, machining, and building editions themselves.

Robot Renegades: the archived competition details
Robot Renegades was an event within the fair organized by Palm Beach Bots and Team Witch Doctor. Its archived 2023 page listed four classes:
- Plastic Ant
- Ant Rookie
- Ant Pro
- Beetle
That page capped Ant Rookie and Ant Pro at 16 robots each. It also described safety requirements, including a ban on fire weapons and automatic forfeits for exposed batteries, and said Palm Beach Bots would have parts and kits on site. These are historical details from the 2023 event page, not current competition rules or registration guidance.

Planning for a future Miami Maker Faire
The 2023 dates have passed, and the available sources do not establish its ticket price, attendance total, or post-event results. For future planning, consult the official Miami Maker Faire homepage, which currently lists April 17–18, 2027 as a save-the-date. The same homepage reports that more than 5,000 students, families, educators, and makers attended the 2026 edition; that figure applies to 2026, not 2023.
If you are choosing which activities to look for at a future fair, use your interests as a guide: robotics and robot combat for machines, microcontrollers for electronics, FPV demonstrations for drones, or digital art and screen printing for creative fabrication. Check the current event information for actual programming before making plans.

Trying a similar project at home
The 2023 preview’s Arduino and microcontroller examples offer a starting point for a home build. An Arduino starter kit can provide general-purpose components for beginner experiments; it is a project resource, not a product endorsed by Maker Faire Miami. For aspiring makers, Elijah Horland—introduced in the preview as a self-taught maker, programmer, and circuit enthusiast—put it simply: “Stubbornness is a virtue!”
