That positioning matters for a renovation or new build. A timber frame can be selected for its appearance, then specified around ventilation, access, daylight, acoustic needs or a particular façade. However, the listing does not provide a complete schedule showing which dimensions, glazing packages, hardware sets or finishes are available for every style. Treat the options below as the formats named in the listing, not as a guarantee that every combination can be ordered.

“Safety glass and locks” is a broad product description rather than a complete specification. The quotation should state the glass type and thickness, where safety glazing is required, the lock brand or model, keying arrangements and any child-safety or restricted-opening hardware. For a door, also ask about hinge protection, multipoint locking if offered, cylinder type and the security rating applicable to the exact assembly. Do not assume that a lock mentioned in general marketing copy is included in the price of every configuration.

SoundMizer is described as optional. No decibel reduction or laboratory test result is supplied in the reviewed pages, so the name alone cannot predict the noise level inside a room. Tell the supplier the noise source, target room and whether road, rail, aircraft or neighbour noise is the concern. Request the tested acoustic rating for the complete window or door, including frame, seals, glass and ventilation hardware. Check whether the acoustic option changes the available opening size, weight or operating hardware.
Thermashield climate-control enhancement
Thermashield is also presented as an enhancement rather than a universal specification. The listing does not state a numerical thermal improvement or define which configurations support it. Ask for the technical description, the compatible glazing packages and any installation requirements. If the project is in a climate-controlled building, have the designer or energy consultant assess the complete window area rather than relying on the product name.

BAL-19 bushfire claim
The listing says the range is available with up to BAL-19 bushfire rating. “Up to” is important: it does not mean every Meranti window or door is BAL-19. Bushfire performance can depend on opening style, unit size, glass, screens, seals, hardware and installation. Before using the claim for a building approval or insurance decision, obtain the certificate or technical schedule for the exact configuration, including dimensions and glazing. Ask the certifier or building surveyor whether the proposed unit satisfies the site’s required BAL level.
Meranti, Botanica and the current product name
Trend’s current trade and specifier page presents Botanica as a timber series. The reviewed pages do not establish that Botanica is a renamed Meranti range, a replacement, or a separate collection. Avoid treating the names as interchangeable. When contacting Trend, quote the Meranti listing, ask whether that range is still available in your state and request the current catalogue or specification under the name Trend uses today.
The trade page also warns that product availability can vary by serviceable state and that products may change without notice. A listing therefore should not be read as confirmation that a particular style, finish or performance option can be supplied to every location. Get the current product name, manufacturing specification and availability in writing before design documentation is finalised.

Installation responsibility depends on the project, so the quotation should say who measures, who prepares openings, who installs, and who is responsible for weatherproofing and making good.

The Architecture & Design listing says the range has a seven-year guarantee. Trend’s current trade page advertises a 10-year warranty on windows and doors. The reviewed pages do not say whether the terms differ by product, publication date, component, installation method or coverage condition. Neither duration should be presented as the definitive term for your purchase without written confirmation.

- which parts are covered, such as timber, finish, glass, hardware, seals and moving mechanisms;
- whether the warranty requires Trend-approved installation or maintenance;
- the owner’s cleaning, recoating and inspection obligations;
- exclusions for moisture, coastal exposure, misuse, alteration or building movement;
- the procedure, evidence and time limit for making a claim; and
- whether the warranty transfers if the property is sold.
Keep the signed quotation, approved drawings, delivery record and maintenance instructions with the warranty. If the sales document and warranty booklet show different durations, ask Trend to identify which term governs the exact products before paying a deposit.
Questions to ask for a project-specific specification
A useful enquiry is more detailed than “How much are Meranti windows?” Send an opening schedule and ask Trend to answer these points for each unit:

- What glass type, thickness, coating and spacer are included?
- Which locks, handles, hinges, rollers, restrictors and screens are included?
- Does the unit have a documented thermal or energy rating, and to what test or calculation?
- If acoustic performance is needed, what complete-assembly rating applies with SoundMizer?
- If bushfire performance is needed, what BAL rating applies to this exact size, glass, screen and hardware combination?
- Which stain or paint finish is available, and what maintenance schedule is required?
- What is the production lead time, delivery area and site-access requirement?
- Who installs the units, and what preparation, flashing and sealing work is included?
- Which warranty duration and conditions apply to each component?
Where the range may fit—and where caution is essential
When the timber appearance is the priority
The listing is most persuasive when the project calls for visible natural timber and a stain that complements the interior or exterior palette. Use samples to assess colour and grain in the project’s actual light; the supplier listing invites readers to request samples or make an enquiry. A sample demonstrates appearance, not long-term coating performance, so pair it with the written maintenance instructions.
When openings are large or highly configured
Bifold, corner bifold, sliding stacker and corner sliding stacker systems involve multiple leaves, tracks or structural junctions. Confirm the opening dimensions, panel weights, threshold, support and installation sequence before finalising structural drawings. The fact that a format appears in the listing does not establish that every desired span or corner geometry is available.
When compliance drives the decision
For bushfire, energy or acoustic compliance, marketing language is only the starting point. The decision should be based on documentation matching the exact frame, glass, hardware, size and installation. If Trend cannot provide that documentation, have the project’s architect, energy consultant or certifier identify an alternative compliant specification before ordering.
