#1 Best Overall
Section A: 50 marks
Section A has two 25-mark questions. Question 1 asks for a front-view production drawing of a boy’s shirt on A4, uses of five sketch types and colour examples. Question 2 covers construction-process identification, other names for production drawings, line types, and names and uses of a croquis.
Section B: 150 marks
Section B has two 75-mark questions. Question 3 asks candidates to make a specified blouse-and-skirt production drawing on A3 and a presentation drawing of the outfit on A3. Question 4 asks for an A3 poster advertising a toddler fashion show, including the range name, event description, venue, date and cost if any, with presentation sketches of a boy and a girl. It also requires a labelled front-view adult female figure using a supplied addendum.

Practise translating every feature in a written garment brief into a clear drawing. The marking guideline emphasizes proportion, specified design details, correct labelling and neatness. It calls for a black fine-liner on production drawings. The presentation drawing is assessed for garment details, colour, medium, fabric texture and professional presentation.

The marking guideline provides sample answers for theory and criteria for practical work. For sketch types, it describes an inspiration board as using pictures and fabric swatches for inspiration; a design-development sheet as exploring possibilities from an idea or theme; production sketches as guides for making a sample garment; and presentation sketches as communicating design ideas and intended fashion image. It describes fashion illustration for advertisements as loose and less focused on garment construction.
For colour theory, the guideline lists red, blue and yellow as primary colours, and purple, green and orange as secondary colours. It lists yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet and red-orange as tertiary colours, and identifies purple as the complementary colour of red. For production drawings, it accepts “construction drawing,” “technical drawing” and “flat sketch.” It names horizontal, vertical, diagonal and curved design lines, and gives “figure guide” and “figure template” as other names for a croquis.
Rank #3
The practical marking criteria stress proportion, accurate details and labels, neatness, and a clear presentation. For the poster, the criteria include readable event information, a name and description, venue/date/cost details, and coloured toddler-fashion sketches. The adult female figure task assesses body landmarks, joint placement, drawing ability and correct labels.
Materials and preparation
The paper specifies four A3 drawing sheets and two A4 drawing sheets, with extra sheets available for rough work. It permits fashion-drawing media and equipment but does not specify a brand or paper weight. An A3 drawing-paper pad or loose A3 sheets may be a practical option for the A3 tasks; choose materials suitable for the medium you use. The document also specifies A4 for the boy’s shirt production drawing.
