Nason Industrial is Axalta’s compact, integrated liquid-coatings package for general industrial work. The Australia/New Zealand product page describes concentrated color tints combined with several binder technologies, including polyurethane, acrylic and alkyd enamel topcoats, with Direct-to-Metal (DTM) and ISO-Free options. Primers, activators and thinners are included in the system. You can apply the products by brush, roller or spray, and choose factory colors or colors mixed to AS2700, RAL and other customer standards. The exact product, preparation, compatibility, availability and safety requirements must be confirmed in the current local technical and safety documents before work begins.

What the Nason Industrial range is
Axalta describes Nason Industrial as “a compact and complete coatings package specifically formulated to meet the needs of the general liquid industrial market.” In practical terms, that means a coordinated set of liquid primers, topcoats, colorants, activators and thinners rather than one universal paint. The range is intended to let a specifier build a coating system around a metal job, its exposure and the desired application method.
The product information is regional: the detailed industrial page is Axalta’s Australia site. A product, color, pack size or distributor shown there should not be assumed to be available in another country. Local regulations, formulations and technical documents can differ. Start with the current regional listing and the product-specific technical data sheet (TDS) and safety data sheet (SDS) for the material you intend to use.

Washable and reusable for multiple projects.
“Excellent results and value” is a positioning statement in the supplied title and in Axalta’s marketing language, not an independently demonstrated performance result. The reviewed product page contains no comparative test, quantified job-cost study or laboratory statistic establishing that Nason Industrial outperforms another system or always costs less. Treat performance, ease of use and job-cost benefits as claims to verify against your own specification and local data.
Which products are included?
Nason Industrial combines concentrated tints with different binders so a suitable topcoat can be produced for a metal-coating requirement. Axalta names the following families on its industrial page:
| System component | Families or options Axalta names | What that means for selection |
|---|---|---|
| Topcoats | Polyurethane, acrylic and alkyd enamel | These are different coating technologies, not interchangeable labels. Select the specific product whose TDS covers the substrate, exposure, preparation and recoat conditions. |
| Special topcoat options | Direct-to-Metal (DTM) and ISO-Free | These are options identified by Axalta within the range. Do not infer that every DTM or ISO-Free product is suitable for every metal, environment or preparation level. |
| Primers | Alkyd, etch, polyurethane, epoxy and high-build tintable primers | The primer choice depends on the substrate and the complete system specification. “High-build” describes a named family, not a guaranteed film thickness for every product. |
| Supporting materials | Activators and thinners | Use only the activator or thinner and the mix instructions specified for the exact product. Substituting a solvent can change application, cure or compliance. |
| Colorants | Concentrated color tints | Tints are used with the available binders to make the selected topcoat. Tinting capability and formulas should be confirmed locally. |
The list establishes the technologies Axalta identifies; it is not a blanket recommendation to combine any primer, topcoat, activator or thinner. A coating schedule should name the exact product codes, mixing ratios, induction or pot-life requirements (if any), application limits and recoat windows from current documents.
What industrial jobs is it intended for?
Axalta gives tractors, forklifts, machinery, trailers and steel structures as example applications. Those examples place Nason Industrial in the general liquid industrial market: equipment and fabricated steel that need a colored protective or decorative finish.
An example application is not a performance guarantee. A forklift used indoors has a different exposure from a trailer operating near salt water; a new, blasted steel structure differs from an oily repair surface. Before choosing a system, document:

- Production constraints: available application equipment, access, cure time and the need to return an asset to service.
Use those facts to select a complete, documented primer-and-topcoat system. If the TDS does not cover the service condition, ask Axalta or the local distributor for a written recommendation rather than extrapolating from a similar-looking product.
How to choose among the topcoat technologies
Polyurethane topcoats
Polyurethane is one of the topcoat families named by Axalta. The name alone does not specify a particular weathering, chemical or abrasion rating. Compare the exact product TDS with the exposure and preparation requirements, and verify the matching activator and thinner.
Acrylic topcoats
Acrylic topcoats are also listed in the range. Confirm the product’s permitted substrates, environmental limits, film-build guidance and recoat procedure before treating it as a substitute for another chemistry.
Alkyd enamel topcoats
Alkyd enamel is the third named topcoat family. It may be relevant where the specified system calls for an alkyd technology, but the current local TDS must determine whether it is appropriate for the job’s exposure and existing coating.
DTM and ISO-Free options
Axalta specifically identifies Direct-to-Metal and ISO-Free topcoat options. “DTM” should not be read as permission to skip cleaning, preparation or priming in every situation; the product document controls. “ISO-Free” is a product descriptor, not evidence that all regulatory or occupational-health obligations disappear. Check the SDS, local rules and the complete system specification.

Application methods: brush, roller or spray
The industrial page says Nason Industrial products can be applied by brush, roller and various spray methods. It does not name a spray-gun model, nozzle, pressure, tip size or a universal brush and roller specification. Those details must come from the exact TDS and the conditions on your job.

A controlled application workflow
- Identify the exact material. Record the product name, code, color and batch, then download its current local TDS and SDS from the regional Axalta resources or obtain them from the seller.
- Confirm the substrate and existing coating. Establish whether the surface is bare, galvanized, previously painted, contaminated or corroded. If the document does not address the surface, stop and obtain technical advice.
- Plan preparation and containment. Remove oil, grease, dirt, salts, loose rust and failing paint using the method required by the TDS. Protect adjacent equipment and provide ventilation and controls required by the SDS and local regulations.
- Build the specified system. Select the documented primer, topcoat, activator and thinner combination. Follow the stated mixing order, ratio, induction time and pot-life limits; do not improvise with another solvent or hardener.
- Choose the application method. Brush or roller can be practical for access-limited work and repairs; spray can be efficient for larger, accessible surfaces. Match the equipment and technique to the TDS rather than assuming a consumer setup will work.
- Apply within the stated conditions. Record temperature, humidity, ventilation and surface condition. Stay within the document’s limits for wet or dry film build, flash-off and recoat time.
- Inspect before service. Check coverage, color, gloss, runs, dry spray, adhesion and visible contamination. Resolve defects using the product instructions before the asset is returned to use.
A search for an “HVLP paint spray gun” may help describe the equipment category you are considering, but Axalta’s page does not specify HVLP, endorse consumer equipment or prove compatibility with a particular gun. Ask the equipment supplier and coating representative to match the gun, tip, pressure and air supply to the exact coating and site conditions.
Color choices and matching
Nason Industrial is available in several factory-packaged colors, according to Axalta. The page also says colors can be mixed to AS2700, RAL and other customer colors. That gives a project more than one route:
| Color route | Best use | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Factory-packaged color | A standard color already offered in the local product range. | Current regional availability, pack size, gloss and whether the supplied product is the required binder and sheen. |
| AS2700 match | Projects specified to the Australian Standard color system. | Exact color reference, permitted tolerance, finish and whether the local facility can mix that formula. |
| RAL match | Projects using a RAL reference. | Color code, substrate effect, gloss and an approved physical sample where appearance is critical. |
| Other customer color | Fleet, machinery or corporate colors outside the named standards. | Color sample, minimum batch, lead time, approval process and local tinting capability. |
A color code is not the whole appearance specification. Gloss, texture, film thickness, lighting and the underlying primer can affect what the eye sees. Approve a sample panel under the viewing conditions that matter to the owner, and retain the approved reference for future repairs.

- Bates paint brushes come in a convenient 6 pieces with 3 flat and 3 angled bristle styles, including (1”, 1.5”, 2”) flat and (1.5”, 2”, 2.5”) angled bristles, perfect for tackling any surface painting or staining job.
- The sturdy natural bristles of each brush are designed to hold more paint, creating a smoother finish with fewer streaks and saving you time on the job.
- The lightweight wooden handles provide extra comfort and ease during long painting processes like walls, trims, cabinets, and doors.
- These versatile brushes are ready-to-use, easy to clean, and can be reused multiple times, making them economical as well as reliable tools for any painting project.
- Bates paint brushes can be used for both oil-based paints as well as latex stains and are ideal for home or commercial projects such as decks, fences or DIY painting jobs.
- Start with the exposure, not the color. A visually correct color in the wrong chemistry can fail the service requirement.
- Choose the substrate pathway. Determine whether the specification calls for an etch, epoxy, polyurethane, alkyd or high-build tintable primer, and verify that the selected topcoat is approved over it.
- Decide whether DTM is genuinely allowed. If the project requires a primer, corrosion control or a particular surface preparation, DTM wording does not override that requirement.
- Match production method. Confirm that brush, roller or the proposed spray process can meet the required finish and film build with the available ventilation and access.
- Lock the color standard. Use the exact AS2700, RAL or customer reference and approve a sample when color consistency matters.
- Validate local supply and compliance. Obtain current documents, confirm the seller can supply the exact system and check transport, storage, ventilation and waste rules.
Where to buy and which documents to request
Axalta’s regional Nason Industrial page provides a Where To Buy route and links to SDS and TDS resources. Use those links to locate a local contact and the current documentation; the page does not establish distributor stock, a price or a universal delivery area.
Before purchase, request:
- The current TDS for every primer, topcoat, activator and thinner in the proposed system.
- The current SDS for each component, including colorants where supplied separately.
- Written confirmation of substrate compatibility and the complete overcoat sequence.
- Mixing ratios, application equipment guidance, environmental limits, film-build targets, drying and recoat instructions.
- Color availability, batch or minimum-order requirements and the process for approving a custom match.
Do not rely on an old label, a generic color chart or an unlabeled decanted container when the product documentation has changed.
Do not confuse the industrial range with US refinish documents
Axalta maintains a separate US Nason Technical Center containing documentation for Nason Finishes products such as primers, topcoats, basecoats and clears. That index demonstrates that Axalta publishes technical documents for Nason-branded products, but it is a refinish-system resource, not the catalog for the Australia Nason Industrial range. A product listed there should not be assumed to belong in an industrial specification or to be sold in your country.
What “value” can—and cannot—mean here
Axalta presents Nason Industrial as versatile and value-oriented, referring to performance, ease of use and job cost. The available product page supplies no comparative study, measured productivity result or quantified total-cost analysis. Your actual value calculation should therefore include material usage at the specified film build, labor and masking, preparation, equipment, ventilation, waste, downtime, color matching, compliance and future maintenance—not just the price of a tin.

For a defensible comparison, ask suppliers to quote the complete documented system rather than a topcoat alone. Record the quantities and conditions behind each quote, and compare like-for-like primers, coats, color, gloss, packaging and delivery region. If a promised saving depends on fewer coats, faster return to service or reduced preparation, require the relevant TDS limits and a written technical basis.

Common mistakes and recovery steps
Assuming every Nason product is industrial
Nason is used across Axalta product information. Verify that the item is specifically in the local Nason Industrial offering, not a refinish product from another regional catalog. If uncertain, ask the seller to identify the industrial product code and provide its TDS.
Skipping preparation because the label says DTM
DTM does not eliminate the need to remove contamination, unstable rust or failing paint. Return to the exact TDS, prepare a test area and obtain technical approval if the surface falls outside the document’s scope.
Mixing by color name alone
Two products can share a color reference while using different binders, gloss levels or mixing systems. Confirm the binder, color formula and finish before tinting or ordering.

Stop application, isolate the mixed material and contact the supplier if the wrong component was added. Do not assume that a familiar solvent is interchangeable; cure and safety performance may be affected.
Choosing spray equipment without coating data
Obtain the TDS guidance for atomization and the SDS controls first. Then have the equipment supplier match the gun and air supply to the coating, access and required finish.
Bottom line
Nason Industrial is a regionally supplied, integrated Axalta system covering named polyurethane, acrylic and alkyd enamel topcoats; DTM and ISO-Free options; alkyd, etch, polyurethane, epoxy and high-build tintable primers; plus activators, thinners and concentrated tints. It is aimed at general liquid industrial work such as tractors, forklifts, machinery, trailers and steel structures, with brush, roller and spray application and factory or mixed colors. The sensible purchase decision is not based on the phrase “excellent results and value” alone: identify the substrate and exposure, specify the complete compatible system, confirm color and application details, and use the current local TDS, SDS and Axalta buying channel before committing.
