What is One Place, Many Voices?
One Place, Many Voices is a collaborative acrylic dot painting measuring three metres long. Bonar facilitated the project, and invited community members contributed to the artwork at a community event earlier in 2025. The painting was then launched and displayed in the foyer of MARC. PerthNow’s Mandurah Times report describes the work as combining aspects of Bonar’s Gija and Yamaji heritage with contemporary painting techniques.
Who made the artwork?
Artist and facilitator Deborah Bonar
Bonar is a Mandurah-based Aboriginal artist. She led the project and worked with the invited participants, bringing her own artistic practice to a community-created work. In the launch coverage, Bonar said: “This opportunity to work with a community-oriented art project fosters creativity, builds community awareness and embraces contemporary Aboriginal art and its stories,” as reported by PerthNow’s Mandurah Times.

Community participants
Invited community members helped create the painting during an event earlier in 2025. The available reporting does not name individual participants or describe how each person’s contribution appears in the finished work.
What does the painting represent?
Mayor Caroline Knight framed the project as a celebration of Mandurah’s diverse community, shared values, cultural storytelling and connection to waterways. She also said the work honours Indigenous heritage and celebrates Mandjoogoordap as a historic gathering place for the Bindjareb Noongar people. These are Knight’s interpretations as quoted in the launch report; they should not be taken as an exhaustive explanation of the painting’s meaning.

The artwork was launched in the foyer of MARC. The 2025 report said the display there would continue until May 25, after which the painting was planned to move to the City of Mandurah Council building. That was a historical destination plan, not confirmation of its present location. The coverage available here does not verify where the painting is now.
