Online amigurumi tools can draft a pattern from text or a photo, calculate shapes from templates, help you write and preview rounds, or check a pattern you already have. No provider in the research was independently test-crocheted, so compare tools by their inputs and checking features—and treat every result as a draft until you verify it and crochet a test section.
The right choice depends on whether you need a new design, live stitch math, a shape preview, or a report on an existing pattern. A correct count does not prove that the shape, assembly, or finished size will match your expectations.

Choose by the task you need done
- To start from an idea or image: consider Amigurumi Generator, which describes text- and photo-based drafting. Use a clear image with the full subject in frame, as the provider recommends, and expect to edit the result.

How to check a generated or drafted pattern
- Confirm the notation. Check the abbreviation key and whether the pattern uses US or UK crochet terms. “Single crochet” and “double crochet” do not mean the same stitch in both systems.
- Recalculate each round. Increases add stitches, decreases remove stitches, and plain single crochet leaves the count unchanged. Expand repeats and verify that the stated number of repetitions fits the round.
- Inspect the shape separately from the arithmetic. A round can have a correct total yet create the wrong silhouette. If available, use a 3D preview to help spot proportions that do not match the intended design.
- Review all parts and assembly. Check that the instructions account for each piece, placement, orientation, and color change. A checker’s report or a safety note does not establish that the design is suitable or compliant for a particular use.
- Swatch and test a section. Finished size depends on gauge and tension. Crochet a gauge swatch and a small test section before committing to a larger project.
- Revise before sharing. Record any missing steps or corrections. Do not describe a pattern as tested unless someone has actually crocheted and reviewed it.
Amigurumi Generator says finished size comes from the maker’s gauge and recommends swatching; Amigurumi Atelier likewise describes dimensions as estimates because tension varies. A count checker can compare written arithmetic with stated counts, but cannot prove that the object will match a reference or that every crocheter will get the same dimensions.

Worsted-weight yarn can be an easy starting weight, according to Amigurumi Atelier. Match your yarn and hook to the intended gauge rather than assuming one hook size or yarn works for every pattern. A kit may not include the right yarn, colors, or hook for a particular design.

Can a generator create an amigurumi pattern from an image?

Can a pattern checker prove that a design works?
No. A checker can flag arithmetic or repeat issues according to its features, but that does not prove the shape is right, assembly is practical, or the pattern has been successfully crocheted.
