The Opposites Attract Wall Quilt is a 43½-inch-square quilt pattern built around a simple block that pairs warm and cool prints. The AllPeopleQuilt project uses green and blue fabrics against pink and purple, with white corner pieces and sashing to create contrast. This is the specific wall-quilt design published by American Patchwork & Quilting Editors on October 13, 2021—not either of the larger, similarly named throw patterns.
Which Opposites Attract pattern is this?
This article covers AllPeopleQuilt’s Opposites Attract Wall Quilt, credited to American Patchwork & Quilting Editors. It finishes at 43½ inches square and uses blocks that finish at 9 inches. The project page says it was inspired by Classic Comforts from designer Wendy Sheppard, tested by Martha Gamm, and made with fabrics from the Summer School collection by Judy Jarvi for Windham Fabrics.

The name is also used for unrelated quilts. Missouri Star lists an Opposites Attract design measuring 59 by 69 inches, while Windham’s separate pattern listing describes a 67-by-91-inch throw. Their dimensions and designs differ; use the AllPeopleQuilt instructions for this wall quilt rather than combining directions from another pattern. See the Missouri Star listing and Windham listing for those distinct projects.
How the design creates contrast
The publisher describes the idea as pairing cool and warm colors in a quilt composed of one simple block. Green and blue prints form one color group; pink and purple prints form the other. White print pieces create the contrasting corners and the sashing between blocks, while purple squares punctuate the sashing.

The repeated block starts with three 3½-by-9½-inch fabric rectangles sewn into a 9½-inch square. Marked white squares are stitched diagonally across corners and trimmed, producing contrasting corners. Placing those corner units in opposing positions makes the A and B block versions. The blocks are arranged with sashing into seven rows; the center should measure 39½ inches square before borders are added.
Materials and fabric quantities
The AllPeopleQuilt materials list calculates yardage using 42 inches of usable fabric width. Quantities below are the publisher’s specifications, not a guarantee that every fabric layout or directional print will yield the same cuts. The instructions include more detailed cutting information, so consult the project page before preparing a complete shopping and cutting plan.

- Make the repeated block unit. Sew three 3½-by-9½-inch rectangles together to form a 9½-inch square, following the pattern’s fabric placement.
- Add the white corners. Mark the white squares diagonally, sew them to the designated corners, and trim as directed to create the contrasting corner shapes.
- Separate A and B blocks by orientation. The corner-square positions distinguish the two versions; keep their placement consistent with the pattern diagrams.
- Assemble the center with sashing. Join the blocks into seven rows using the white sashing rectangles and purple sashing squares. Check that the center measures 39½ inches square before borders.
- Add borders and finish. Sew on the border strips, then layer the top with batting and backing, baste, quilt as desired, and bind.
Measurements in the instructions include ¼-inch seam allowances. Sew right sides together unless the pattern says otherwise. A rotary cutter, quilting ruler, and cutting mat can help with the repeated cuts, but the project page does not list them as required or specifically recommended tools.

What to know before choosing the pattern
- Finished size: 43½ inches square, suitable as a wall quilt or small decorative quilt.
- Block size: 9 inches finished; repeated rectangles and diagonal corner pieces create the A/B variations.
- Color plan: Build contrast with cool green and blue prints, warm pink and purple prints, and white prints; the border is tan in the published materials list.
- Difficulty: The AllPeopleQuilt instructions do not provide a stated difficulty label, so the project should not be assigned a publisher-certified skill level based on that page.
- Fabric choice: The Summer School collection is identified as the fabric used for the pictured project, but the published yardages are organized by color group rather than requiring that collection.
