A pin pillow is a small cushion that holds sewing pins and needles within easy reach. It is also commonly called a pin cushion. A wrist pin pillow adds a band so you can wear it while sewing; magnetic versions offer a different way to hold pins and may suit tabletop use as well.
What is a pin pillow?
A pin pillow, or pin cushion, is a holder for sewing pins and needles. Korbond describes its cushion as a way to store them and keep them accessible during sewing. A wrist pin cushion makes the holder wearable, keeping pins near your hand as you move between work areas.
What kinds of pin pillows can you choose?
Soft felt or fabric cushions
These hold pins in a soft cushion. For example, Dritz lists model 703 as a felt wrist pin cushion with a flexible band. Its separate heart-shaped wrist cushion has an adjustable strap.
Magnetic wrist holders
A magnetic wrist pin cushion holds pins magnetically rather than pushing them into a soft cushion. Nippon Chuko lists model CL57-704 with a silicone wristband and lid. The lid can help with storage and carrying, and the holder can also serve as a desktop pin holder. Product features vary, so check the specific listing.

Tabletop holders
If you prefer not to wear a holder, a tabletop pin cushion keeps pins in one work area. Rowley lists a magnetic tabletop holder separately from its wrist magnetic holder.
How to choose a pin pillow
- Consider fit: Check whether the band is elastic, flexible, or adjustable, and whether its listed fit suits you.
- Choose the holding style: A soft felt or fabric cushion and a magnetic holder work differently. Pick the type that suits how you handle pins.
- Think about storage: If you carry the holder or want to cover its pins between tasks, look for a model with a lid.
- Match it to your workspace: A wrist holder travels with you; a tabletop holder stays in one place. Some magnetic wrist models can be used on a table too.
- Check the product details: Listings establish features, not current stock or price. Confirm availability and follow the maker’s instructions for the model you buy.
Using a pin pillow carefully
For a soft cushion, Korbond cautions: “Be careful not to push pins too far through cushion and cause damage from sharp points.” Follow the instructions supplied with your particular product.
