Pink Floyd selected Damián Gaume’s “Any Colour You Like” video as one of ten track-specific videos in its The Dark Side of the Moon 50th-anniversary animation competition. Contemporary reporting says Gaume used Stable Diffusion in his process, prompting criticism of the selection and the video’s perceived quality or authenticity. It was not the competition’s overall winner: Pink Floyd’s archive listed a £100,000 overall prize, separate from the selection of videos for individual tracks.
What was Pink Floyd’s competition?
As part of the album’s 50th anniversary, Pink Floyd invited animators to make videos for any of the ten tracks on The Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973. Pink Floyd’s official archive reported more than 900 entries and ten selected videos, one for each song.
The official archive described a total prize fund of £235,000 and an overall winner prize of £100,000. Those figures do not mean that every track-specific selection received the overall prize. The archive’s initial announcement named Nick Mason and Aubrey “Po” Powell among the panel; a later archive entry listed a broader panel.

Pink Floyd’s current video catalogue lists the “Any Colour You Like” entry as a “50th Anniversary Competition Winner’s Video.” This confirms its place in the official catalogue, not that it won the overall prize.
Who made the “Any Colour You Like” video?
Contemporary reporting identifies Damián Gaume, an Argentina-born 3D artist based in Australia, as the creator. Gaume said he used AI as part of his animation technique and described trying a different approach as a 3D artist.

Was the video made with AI?
Yes. In an account quoted by Entertainment Weekly, Gaume said he used locally installed Stable Diffusion, trained his own models, made trigger images in Blender, and used prompts to develop ideas. These details describe his reported process; the sources reviewed do not independently establish the training data, legal status, or labor involved at each stage.
“AI-assisted” is a useful description because it acknowledges generative tools without implying that the video resulted from a single prompt. Gaume’s reported workflow included 3D work and human choices as well as AI. That does not resolve separate questions about model training or how viewers should evaluate the finished work.

Blender is a 3D modeling and animation application. The available reporting does not establish whether this specific video carried a YouTube AI label. YouTube’s general guidance says creators must disclose AI-generated or altered content that seems realistic, while listing AI-generated animation in a fully animated video as an example that does not require disclosure. That guidance is not a determination about this entry.
Why did the video draw criticism?
Reporting from April 2024 documented criticism after Gaume’s use of AI became known. One viewer quoted by 96FM called it an “AI generated morph stock art sequence.” That is an individual reaction, not evidence of what Pink Floyd fans or artists as a whole thought.
