The QIDI Plus4 is a large, enclosed CoreXY FDM printer built for demanding materials—not a guarantee of perfect prints straight out of the box. Its defining hardware is a second-generation actively heated chamber rated up to 65°C, a 370°C printhead, a 305 × 305 × 280 mm build volume, and two independently driven Z lead screws. Those features can give experienced users better control over warping, layer bonding, gantry alignment, and high-temperature composites than an open-frame PLA printer, but final print quality still depends on filament drying, build-plate preparation, calibration, slicer settings, firmware, and material choice.[c001][c002]

For functional prototypes, ABS and ASA parts, nylon, carbon-fiber composites, and other engineering materials, the Plus4 is a credible platform. For inexpensive PLA printing, a small workbench, or the simplest possible ownership experience, its 27 kg weight, heated chamber, electrical load, and maintenance requirements may be more printer than you need.

QIDI Plus4 at a glance

QIDI positions the Plus4 as a high-temperature enclosed printer with fast CoreXY motion and a heated build environment. The important distinction is that its headline specifications describe capability, not guaranteed operating performance. A 600 mm/s maximum toolhead speed and 20,000 mm/s2 maximum acceleration, for example, do not mean every model or filament will produce good results at those settings.[c001][c002]

Specification QIDI Plus4 Why it matters
Printer type Enclosed CoreXY FDM/FFF Efficient motion architecture with a warmer, more controlled print environment
Build volume 305 × 305 × 280 mm Large enough for substantial single-piece parts and organizers
Maximum toolhead speed 600 mm/s A manufacturer-stated ceiling, not a universal quality setting
Maximum listed acceleration 20,000 mm/s2 Supports rapid motion when the model, material, and profiles allow it
Maximum printhead temperature 370°C Opens the door to nylon, polycarbonate, PPA, PPS-CF, and other high-temperature materials
Active chamber heating Up to 65°C Can reduce thermal gradients and warping in difficult thermoplastics
Build plate 6 mm aluminum heated bed, up to 120°C; dual-sided textured PEI plate supplied Useful for adhesion and high-temperature printing
Z system Two independent lead-screw motors Allows the printer and its calibration routines to address alignment differences
Connectivity Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and USB Supports local and networked print workflows
Physical size and weight 505 × 487 × 550 mm; approximately 27 kg net Requires a sturdy, properly sized workspace
Rated electrical specification 100/240 VAC, 50/60 Hz; QIDI lists 450W plus 400W for chamber heating Relevant when choosing a circuit, location, and ventilation plan

The Plus4 is also offered in Plus4 and Plus4 Combo variants on QIDI’s US product page. The Combo designation should not be assumed to mean that every box includes the same multi-filament hardware; check the exact package contents before ordering.[c001]

Why the heated chamber is the Plus4’s biggest differentiator

Most consumer FDM printers heat the bed and nozzle but leave the surrounding air at room temperature. The Plus4 adds an independent PTC chamber-heating system rated up to 65°C, with air circulation and dual-layer insulation. QIDI lists a 400W chamber-heating system in its technical specifications.[c001][c002]

That matters because many engineering plastics contract as they cool. If the lower layers remain warm while the upper layers are exposed to significantly cooler air, corners can lift, tall parts can split between layers, and large flat sections can distort. A warmer chamber can narrow that temperature difference and improve the conditions for layer bonding. This is particularly relevant to ABS, ASA, nylon, polycarbonate, and fiber-reinforced polymers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The chamber is not a substitute for correct material preparation. Wet nylon can still print poorly in a warm enclosure, and carbon-fiber filament can still wear an unsuitable nozzle. QIDI’s PPS-CF guidance recommends a suitable PEI plate, a wear-resistant nozzle, and a drying box; it also warns that moisture can degrade print quality.[c005]

What a 65°C chamber does—and does not—promise

  • It can help with: warping control, more consistent thermal conditions, and interlayer bonding in materials that benefit from elevated ambient temperatures.
  • It cannot guarantee: a perfect first layer, dimensionally accurate parts, flawless overhangs, or strong prints when the filament is wet or the profile is wrong.
  • It requires judgment: different materials need different nozzle, bed, chamber, cooling, and drying strategies. The maximum chamber temperature is not a setting to use automatically for every spool.

For ordinary PLA models, the heated chamber is mostly unused capability. For a large ASA enclosure, nylon bracket, or carbon-fiber functional part, it is a more meaningful advantage.

What the dual independent Z-axis contributes

The Plus4 uses two independent Z lead-screw motors instead of relying on a single mechanically linked Z drive. In principle, this allows the printer’s calibration routines to compensate for differences in gantry or platform alignment. QIDI presents the arrangement as part of a drive-system upgrade and associates it with improved leveling performance.[c001][c002]

A well-aligned dual-Z system can help keep the gantry square and reduce the risk that one side sits higher than the other. That is valuable for a wide 305 mm bed, where a small alignment error can become visible as the nozzle travels across the platform.

However, two motors do not automatically create perfect leveling. Frame squareness, lead-screw alignment, bed flatness, thermal expansion, sensor readings, firmware behavior, and the condition of the build plate still matter. Independent review material describes the Plus4’s dual-stepper Z arrangement and automatic platform-leveling use, but also reports that Z alignment and setup were not entirely trouble-free during testing.[c003]

The practical conclusion is measured: dual independent Z is a useful design choice and a stronger foundation for calibration, not a promise that the owner will never need to inspect alignment or repeat a leveling routine.

Print quality: where the Plus4 can excel

“Superior print quality” is best understood as a manufacturer-positioned benefit rather than an independently proven result across every material and model. The engineering case is sound, but the printer’s output depends on the whole workflow.

ABS and ASA

These materials are among the clearest beneficiaries of an enclosure and active chamber heating. The controlled environment can reduce corner lifting and layer separation on large parts. ASA also benefits from an enclosed setup when printing outdoor-use components, although the user still needs an appropriate build surface, a suitable profile, and good ventilation practices.

Nylon and fiber-reinforced nylon

Nylon offers toughness and useful mechanical performance, but it absorbs moisture readily. Drying is not optional when the goal is consistent surface quality and strength. Carbon-fiber or glass-fiber reinforcement can increase stiffness and reduce shrinkage, but it also makes nozzle wear a central maintenance concern.

For advanced composite work, a PAHT-CF carbon-fiber nylon filament or similar high-temperature material may make sense only after the user has a reliable drying and nozzle-wear workflow. QIDI’s material guidance connects these materials with drying and wear-resistant hardware rather than treating them as ordinary plug-and-play filament.[c005][c015]

Polycarbonate, PPA, and PPS-CF

The 370°C printhead and heated enclosure give the Plus4 the hardware range needed to attempt demanding materials such as PC, PPA-CF/GF, and PPS-CF. That does not make every grade of those materials easy. High-temperature composites can require careful drying, high bed temperatures, controlled cooling, reliable adhesion, and a nozzle that resists abrasion.

Users considering PPS-CF filament for QIDI Plus4 should treat it as an advanced process rather than a normal upgrade from PLA. QIDI specifically recommends continuous drying during printing for PPS-CF workflows and calls for a wear-resistant nozzle and appropriate PEI surface.[c005]

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Large creative and organizational parts

The 305 mm square build area is useful even when the material is not especially demanding. QIDI illustrates the capacity with a 7 × 7 Gridfinity baseplate printed in one run, rather than split into smaller sections.[c006] The same volume can be useful for large jigs, studio organizers, master patterns, props, and other single-piece objects that would otherwise require joining.

Hardware features that support the workflow

  • 370°C printhead: Gives the printer headroom for engineering thermoplastics and fiber-filled materials.
  • 80W bimetal hotend and wear-resistant multi-metal nozzle: QIDI lists these as part of the high-temperature toolhead design.[c001][c002]
  • 120°C heated bed: Helps with adhesion and materials that need a hot build surface.
  • Automatic calibration: QIDI lists hands-free automatic leveling and input shaping, along with filament run-out and tangle detection.
  • Power-loss recovery: A useful safeguard for long prints, though recovery is not a guarantee against damage from every interruption.
  • Activated-carbon filtration: Included in QIDI’s technical specifications. Filtration should not be treated as a replacement for sensible ventilation, especially with heated plastics.
  • Camera: QIDI lists a low-frame-rate camera with timelapse support. It is useful for monitoring and documentation, not equivalent to a high-resolution inspection system.

A sensible Plus4 setup workflow

  1. Plan the location first. The printer is approximately 505 × 487 × 550 mm and weighs about 27 kg before accessories or filament. Put it on a rigid, level surface with room to open the enclosure, access the rear and sides, and safely manage cables. Do not place it where the chamber exhausts into an occupied, unventilated area.
  2. Check the electrical arrangement. QIDI lists 100/240 VAC, 50/60 Hz and 450W plus 400W for chamber heating. Verify that the intended outlet and circuit are appropriate for the printer’s load, particularly if the chamber heater will be used alongside other high-draw equipment.[c002]
  3. Verify firmware before serious printing. QIDI’s support hub provides Plus4 firmware downloads and release notes. Record the installed version and check current support guidance before relying on older setup advice or community workarounds.[c007]
  4. Inspect alignment and run calibration. Confirm that the machine is stable, the build plate is seated correctly, and the gantry and Z hardware move normally. Run the supplied automatic leveling and input-shaping routines, then use a first-layer test rather than assuming calibration alone has solved every alignment issue.
  5. Choose a known-good profile and material. Start with QIDI Studio, the official slicer, or a verified profile in a compatible slicer. QIDI also names Orca Slicer and PrusaSlicer among compatible third-party options.[c002]
  6. Prepare the filament. Keep PLA, ABS, ASA, nylon, PC, and composites in conditions appropriate to the material. Nylon and PPS-CF deserve particular attention: use a 3D printer filament dryer or drying box when the material requires it, and maintain drying during a long print if the manufacturer’s instructions call for that.
  7. Match the nozzle to the material. Use a wear-resistant or hardened nozzle for carbon-fiber and glass-fiber filaments. Do not assume that a nozzle that works for PLA will remain dimensionally reliable after repeated abrasive-composite prints.
  8. Set the chamber deliberately. Use a chamber temperature appropriate to the material and model. More heat is not automatically better: it can change cooling behavior and should be operated according to current QIDI instructions.
  9. Validate with a small part before committing to a large one. Check first-layer adhesion, corners, walls, bridges, overhangs, dimensions, and signs of moisture or under-extrusion. A small validation print is cheaper than discovering a profile problem after a 20-hour build.

Build surfaces and replacement parts

The Plus4’s supplied dual-sided textured PEI plate is a practical general-purpose starting point, but surface choice affects both adhesion and the appearance of the first layer. Owners who want a smoother underside or a spare surface can consider a Plus4 smooth PEI plate. QIDI lists its Plus4-compatible smooth PEI plate as a dual-sided option rated for the printer’s heated-bed range.[c012]

A replacement hotend is not a required day-one purchase, but it is a sensible part to identify before a long-term maintenance problem stops a project. QIDI lists a compatible Plus4 bimetal nozzle hotend through its US store.[c013] Keep replacement decisions tied to the actual failure: a clog, damaged heater, failed sensor, or worn nozzle may call for different parts and procedures.

For frequent carbon-fiber or glass-fiber printing, a Plus4 tungsten carbide bimetal nozzle is the more relevant upgrade category. QIDI positions this type of nozzle for abrasive, high-temperature materials, but even a wear-resistant nozzle does not eliminate the need to check extrusion consistency and dimensional accuracy over time.[c014]

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Software, networking, and multi-filament options

The Plus4 supports Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and USB. QIDI describes computer and mobile-device control, including local or remote-control options, while its technical documentation names QIDI Studio as the official slicer and lists Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer, and other third-party software as compatible.[c001][c002]

This gives the printer a flexible studio or workshop workflow: slice on a computer, transfer over the network or USB, and monitor the job. Still, profiles, remote features, and interface behavior can vary with firmware versions and software revisions. If a third-party profile produces inconsistent results, reproduce the issue with a current official profile before concluding that the hardware is at fault.

The Plus4 is compatible with the QIDI Box multi-filament system, according to QIDI’s product material. Treat it as an optional ecosystem addition, not an included feature of every Plus4 package. Confirm whether a specific listing is for the printer alone, a Combo bundle, or a separate QIDI Box unit before purchase.[c001][c008]

Reliability and safety caveats worth understanding

The Plus4’s chamber heater makes it more capable, but it also makes thermal management more important than on a basic open-frame printer. Independent reporting has discussed user concerns about chamber heating above 100°C in some conditions and the Plus4’s thermal systems, while a community-maintained Plus4 Wiki documents a geometry and firmware-related concern near the top of the printer’s Z range.[c008][c009]

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Specifically, the community documentation reports that the bed can increasingly obstruct the chamber-heater outlet at Z heights of approximately 268 mm and above. It also describes particular early-firmware power settings associated with thermal-protection events or stress on the solid-state relay. These reports are not evidence of a verified failure rate for every current unit, and they should not be generalized into a claim that every Plus4 is unsafe. They are, however, material reasons to check the machine’s revision, firmware, and current manufacturer guidance—especially before running a tall heated-chamber print.

Before using the chamber heater: read the current Plus4 manual and release notes, keep the printer on an appropriate circuit, provide sensible ventilation, avoid obstructing airflow, and do not bypass thermal protection. If the machine reports a thermal fault, stop and investigate rather than repeatedly resetting the warning.

QIDI’s support hub includes instructions for nozzle replacement, hotend replacement, belt adjustment, thermal grease, bed adhesion, and filament-clogging troubleshooting.[c007] Their existence is not a sign that the printer is unusually defective; it is a reminder that a high-temperature machine has routine service requirements and that instructions can change with firmware and hardware revisions.

Price, variants, and buying geography

At the time covered by the research, QIDI’s US product page showed both a $799 list figure and a promotional $649 figure for the Plus4 listing. Those prices are volatile, and the exact price, bundle contents, tax, and delivery estimate should be checked immediately before publication or purchase.[c001]

QIDI’s US shipping policy says printers and QIDI Box units ship free to the 48 contiguous United States under the listed policy. Accessories and filament may ship from different warehouses or from China depending on inventory.[c010] The global store displays different pricing and shipping-origin information, so a US price should not be presented as a universal worldwide price.[c011]

For readers ready to compare current availability, the QIDI Plus4 3D printer is the appropriate starting point—but verify whether the listing is the base Plus4 or a Combo, what plate and nozzle are included, which warehouse ships it, and what support terms apply in your region.

Who should buy the QIDI Plus4?

It makes sense for:

  • Users who regularly print ABS, ASA, nylon, PC, PPA, PPS-CF, or other materials that benefit from a warm enclosure.
  • Designers and makers who need a 305 mm square build area for large functional or studio parts.
  • People who want a high-temperature toolhead without moving immediately to an industrial printer.
  • Owners willing to dry filament, maintain nozzles, monitor firmware, and tune material-specific profiles.
  • Workshops that can provide a stable surface, suitable electrical supply, and responsible ventilation.

It is a weaker fit for:

  • Someone whose main requirement is inexpensive, low-maintenance PLA printing.
  • A very small desk or lightweight portable setup.
  • Users who expect maximum advertised speed to work with every filament and model.
  • Beginners unwilling to learn material preparation, calibration, and basic maintenance.
  • Anyone looking for a guaranteed silent or entirely hands-off machine.

Verdict

The QIDI Plus4’s case is strongest when its distinctive hardware solves a real problem. The 65°C active chamber can make large ABS, ASA, nylon, and composite parts more manageable; the 370°C printhead expands material options; the 305 × 305 × 280 mm volume accommodates substantial objects; and the independent dual-Z system gives calibration more control over gantry alignment.

Those advantages justify calling the Plus4 a capable high-temperature platform, not universally a superior-quality printer. Excellent results require dry filament, a suitable nozzle and build surface, accurate calibration, a sound slicer profile, and attention to firmware and chamber-heater guidance. Buyers who need those capabilities should find the Plus4 compelling. Buyers who primarily print PLA should compare its size, cost, heat, and maintenance burden against a simpler machine before paying for features they may rarely use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the QIDI Plus4 automatically produce better print quality?

No. Its heated chamber, high-temperature toolhead, and independent dual-Z system provide useful hardware advantages, particularly for ABS, ASA, nylon, polycarbonate, and fiber-filled materials. Print quality still depends on dry filament, correct profiles, calibration, build-plate preparation, nozzle condition, and firmware.

What materials can the QIDI Plus4 print?

QIDI lists PLA, ABS, ASA, PETG, TPU, PA, PC, carbon- or glass-fiber-reinforced polymers, and other materials. Its product material also names PA-CF/GF, PET-CF/GF, PPA-CF/GF, and PPS-CF. Advanced composites require appropriate drying, adhesion, chamber settings, and a wear-resistant nozzle.

Does the Plus4 include the QIDI Box multi-filament system?

Not necessarily. QIDI states that the Plus4 is compatible with the QIDI Box, but package contents vary between the standard Plus4, Combo bundles, and standalone accessory listings. Check the exact regional listing before ordering.

Is the QIDI Plus4 suitable for beginners?

It includes automatic leveling, input shaping, filament sensors, power-loss recovery, and network connectivity, but it is still a substantial high-temperature machine. Beginners can use it, but the printer is a better fit for someone prepared to learn filament drying, material-specific profiles, nozzle maintenance, firmware checks, and chamber-heater safety.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should I check before running a tall heated-chamber print?

Install or verify current firmware, read QIDI’s current support guidance, confirm that airflow is unobstructed, and monitor the machine for thermal warnings. Community documentation reports a potential heater-outlet obstruction near Z heights of approximately 268 mm and above on tall prints, along with concerns tied to particular early-firmware power settings. Treat this as a configuration and firmware-check issue, not a claim that every current Plus4 has the same fault.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The QIDI Plus4 is a credible choice when you need a large enclosed printer with active chamber heating and a 370°C toolhead. Its hardware can improve the odds of successful engineering-material prints, but it does not remove the need for dry filament, careful calibration, wear-resistant nozzles, current firmware, and responsible thermal management.
