For quilt art made since 1980, start in Paducah; for a global collection spanning centuries, consider Lincoln. Lowell foregrounds American quilt history, while museums in La Grange and Carrollton offer regional quilt and textile exhibitions. These five U.S. destinations make a useful shortlist, not a definitive ranking: choose by collection focus and route, then confirm hours, admission and exhibitions with the museum before traveling.
Choose by collection and route
The museums are spread across Kentucky, Nebraska, Massachusetts, Texas and Georgia, so they are better treated as separate trip options than one compact itinerary. Their institutional descriptions also point to distinct interests: contemporary quilted artwork in Paducah, international traditions in Lincoln, American history and contemporary work in Lowell, and rotating regional quilt and textile programming in Texas and Georgia.

The institutions publish collection descriptions and visitor information, but the available sources do not provide an independent comparison of attendance, visitor satisfaction or relative quality. “Must-visit” is therefore a curated selection, not a measured claim that these are the country’s best or only quilt museums.
