A quilted storage basket is a padded fabric organizer, but the name does not specify a standard size, shape, lining, load capacity, or cleaning method. Choose one by checking the dimensions against its intended space and contents, then verify its materials and care instructions on the specific product listing. If you want to make one, a published sewing pattern offers another option.
What a quilted storage basket is—and what it can hold
These baskets are fabric organizers with padding; available examples range from small containers for everyday items to larger baskets for nursery supplies, toys, laundry, or towels. Retailers also suggest using them for tissues, cosmetics, diapers, and other small household objects. Those are suggested uses, not proof that every basket suits every item: check the product listing for restrictions, especially before using a fabric basket in damp conditions or for heavy loads.

The word “quilted” alone does not establish how stiff a basket is or how much weight it can carry. Pottery Barn Kids lists weight capacities for individual products in its Quilted Storage Collection; use the selected model’s own specification rather than assuming another basket has the same capacity.
How to choose the right size and shape
Measure the shelf, floor area, or cabinet where the basket will sit. Then compare those measurements with the product’s stated dimensions and consider the size and opening needed for the objects you plan to store. Retailer dimensions describe specific listings, not a standard for the category.

These are vendor-listed specifications. Check each live listing for current dimensions, stock, availability in your region, and full instructions; do not treat any one example as a category-wide rule.
Compare materials, construction, and care
Shell, padding, and lining can be different materials. For example, H&M’s US listings specify cotton shells, polyester padding, and polypropylene lining, while Avery Row lists an organic cotton outer and recycled polyester filling. Ohouse lists a cotton outer and polyester lining. Compare the exact composition if fiber type or lining matters to you.

Care directions vary just as much. H&M’s examples include machine-wash and drying guidance but restrict use to dry conditions. Avery Row says to wipe its basket clean and not to machine wash; Ohouse specifies a cold, gentle machine wash. Follow the selected item’s own label or product instructions rather than relying on the word “quilted.”
Look for explicit details if you need handles, reversibility, a particular level of structure, or a stated weight capacity. Do not infer washable construction, load limits, or durability from padding alone.

Make a quilted storage basket from a pattern
For a DIY route, Shabby Fabrics’ Fabric Basket in Wee Safari pattern describes an approximate finished size of 10 × 9 × 7 inches. Its listed materials include fabric, 5/8 yard of fusible fleece, and 1 1/8 yard of fusible interfacing. The instructions say to quilt the outer fabric if desired. This is a pattern for a fabric basket, not a reproduction of any specific retail product.
