Ramadan designs can be digital, printable, handmade or ready-made decor. Choose the format for what you want to do—send a greeting, plan the month, decorate a space or make something by hand—and treat crescents, stars, lanterns and geometric patterns as options, not a universal style.
Choose a design by how you will use it
A design that works on a greeting card may not suit a planner or a room decoration. Canva’s Ramadan collection includes cards, planners, invitations, logos, calendars, wishes, quotes and backgrounds, offering editable starting points for different purposes. Browse Canva’s Ramadan design collection.
| Format | Useful for | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Digital template | Cards, invitations, planners, logos and backgrounds | Check that the template suits your intended use and can be personalized as needed. |
| Printable design | A page or design to print and display, write on or use in a craft | Plan for printing and any materials needed to finish or display it. |
| Handmade project | A personal craft activity, such as a paper lantern or embroidery | Allow for materials and making time; check pattern permissions before sharing or selling the result. |
| Ready-made decor | A physical accent for a table, room or prayer space | Check dimensions, materials and whether it actually includes lighting. |
Choose a visual direction without treating it as a rule
Crescent moons, stars, lanterns and Islamic geometric patterns appear in the examples covered here, but no single motif or aesthetic represents every household. You can use one motif, combine patterns, choose a restrained palette or make a design around a personal preference. The City Life Kids Zone lantern activity suggests repeating patterns, geometric designs, crescents and stars, or another design of your choice.

Make a paper Ramadan lantern
The City Life Kids Zone guide describes a low-complexity paper activity using thick A4 paper or card, extra paper for a handle, crayons or oil pastels, watercolor paint, scissors and sticky tape. It is a craft lantern; the instructions do not establish that it is a safe or suitable holder for a real flame. See the “Create Your Unique Ramadan Lantern” activity guide.
- Gather thick A4 paper or card, extra card for a handle, crayons or oil pastels, watercolor paint, scissors and sticky tape.
- Draw a repeating pattern or another design you like on the paper.
- Add watercolor paint, then let the paper dry before cutting or assembling it.
- Cut and shape the paper into a lantern, attach the handle and secure the form with sticky tape.
Keep the finished paper craft away from open flames and heat. If you want a glowing effect, use a battery-powered light only if the construction and light are appropriate for one; the activity guide itself does not specify a lighting method.

Ready-made metal decor
Eidaura lists a gold-tone metal lantern with geometric cut-outs in small and large sizes. The product page describes it for Ramadan decor, Eid tables or prayer spaces, and clarifies that it is decorative, non-electronic and has no built-in lighting. Check the current listing for dimensions and availability before ordering. View the Eidaura lantern listing.
Laser-cut DIY design
Atomm documents a more involved lantern project cut from 3 mm MDF, with Arabic calligraphy and geometric patterns. Its instructions call for an external LED or candle source rather than a built-in light. If adapting the project, check the machine and material requirements, and choose an illumination method appropriate to the finished construction. See the Atomm lantern project.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThese examples serve different needs: a ready-made piece avoids fabrication, while a DIY project allows more control over the pattern and construction. Neither description establishes that every lantern is illuminated or suitable for every location.

Its stated license permits personal, educational and non-commercial use only. Do not assume you may resell the pattern or commercialize embroidery made from it. Check fit, materials and permissions before you begin
- Match format to purpose: choose a card or invitation to send, a planner to organize, or decor for a space.
- Confirm what is included: a digital design is not a physical object, and a decorative lantern may not include a light.
- Plan the making: paper crafts require basic supplies; laser-cut projects require suitable equipment and material.
- Respect licensing: read the terms for templates and patterns, particularly if you plan to distribute or sell anything based on them.
- Choose a style that feels right to you: motifs shown in design collections and craft examples are possibilities, not universal expectations.
