RapidRAW 1.5.1 introduced Dynamic Preview and Static Preview, giving users a choice between display-adaptive rendering and a fixed preview resolution. On a high-resolution display, Dynamic Preview’s render-scaling control can trade pixel density for responsiveness; the release notes recommend Static Preview for lower-end devices. How can I make RAW editing faster?
In RapidRAW 1.5.1, first choose the preview behavior that suits your display and computer. Use Dynamic Preview when you want rendering to adapt as you zoom; on a 4K or 5K display, lower its render-resolution scale if maximum pixel density is not essential. Choose Static Preview if a lower-end device needs a steadier-feeling interface and a fixed base preview resolution is acceptable.

Dynamic Preview: adaptive rendering
Dynamic Preview renders for the display and updates as you zoom. Its render-resolution scaling option lets users on high-resolution displays reduce rendering scale when they do not need maximum pixel density. Static Preview: fixed base resolution
Static Preview uses a fixed base resolution rather than recalculating on every zoom. The v1.5.1 release notes recommend it for lower-end devices where responsiveness is the priority. Mask placement and overlays
The release added real-time mask overlays and click-and-drag creation for linear and radial masks. These changes are intended to make it easier to see the affected area and place a mask directly. The notes do not establish that masking is stutter-free on every device.
Pixel-level inspection
At maximum zoom, interpolation is disabled for pixel-level inspection. This can help when examining fine detail, noise, or visible pixel edges. A maximum-zoom view is an inspection aid, not a substitute for judging an image at its intended output size.
Export, histogram, lens correction, and film scans
- Remembered export settings: the application retains recent settings, reducing repeated setup. Check the options before exporting a batch.
- Live histogram: the histogram updates as adjustments are made. It describes tonal distribution, not whether an image looks successful.
- Automatic lens-correction cropping: cropping is intended to hide black borders and distorted edges introduced by correction. Review the crop if edge composition matters.
- Batch negative conversion: multiple digitized negative scans can be converted in a batch. This is a software workflow feature; the release notes do not specify compatibility with particular scanners.
The release notes also mention shader improvements, interface cleanup, a Lensfun update, and stability fixes. They do not report independent performance or image-quality tests.

Compatibility caveats for v1.5.1
The official v1.5.1 release notes said that Windows and macOS builds were not code-signed, so those systems could show launch warnings. Downloading from the official project source helps ensure you have the intended release, but a warning is not by itself proof that a file is safe. Follow your operating system’s security guidance and do not bypass prompts for untrusted downloads.

For Linux, the release notes said RapidRAW started in compatibility mode by default because of variation in GPU drivers. Users could disable compatibility mode in Settings to enable full GPU acceleration. Driver-specific behavior may affect stability or rendering, so retain compatibility mode as an option if acceleration causes problems.
These are release-specific caveats, not confirmed descriptions of current downloads. The project’s later installation documentation is marked verified in v1.5.4 and should be consulted separately for later versions.

What RapidRAW is—and what this release does not establish
RapidRAW is a non-destructive, GPU-accelerated desktop RAW editor with library organization, batch operations, masks, and RAW adjustments, according to the project. Its maintainers describe it as actively developed and not yet as polished as mature tools such as Darktable, RawTherapee, or Adobe Lightroom. That is important context when deciding whether it fits a professional or established workflow.
The official repository describes the app as under 20 MB; that is the project’s package-size description, not an independently measured comparison.
