Choose a red, white and blue table runner by measuring your table first, then comparing the runner’s pattern, fabric, intended setting and care instructions. Product listings show no universal “standard” size: examples range from 12 × 48 inches to 14 × 72 inches, with different materials and cleaning requirements.
Compare the available styles and specifications
These examples illustrate how much dimensions and materials vary. Specifications below come from the respective retailer or manufacturer listings and apply to those individual products, not to every runner.
| Runner | Dimensions | Material and care | Design and stated use |

Measure for the table you have
Measure the tabletop’s length and width before shopping. Then compare those measurements with a runner’s stated dimensions and decide how much of the table you want it to cover. The examples above vary from 48 to 72 inches long and from 12 to 15 inches wide, so the product name alone does not tell you whether a runner will fit.
Pick a pattern and fabric for the setting
Listings include plaid, woven stripes and a braided design with ric rac bands. These styles are described by sellers for patriotic holidays or Americana décor. For outdoor hosting or a setting where spills are a concern, the Target listing specifically describes its polyester plaid runner as indoor/outdoor, spill-resistant and water-repellent; those claims apply to that listing, not to runners generally.
