The Row Houses Wall Quilt is a free AllPeopleQuilt project finished at 21-1/2 × 53-1/2 inches. It combines traditional piecing with fusible-web appliqué and blanket stitch to create six different house blocks in one horizontal row, separated by sashing and framed with two borders.

What the Row Houses Wall Quilt includes

Six house blocks of different sizes make up the design. Each block uses pieced architectural components—such as roofs, chimneys, windows and doors—along with appliquéd details. The blocks are joined into a long row, then finished with tan and green sashing, a pink inner border and a brown floral outer border.

AllPeopleQuilt lists the project as free, and its project page was updated January 31, 2025. The design is identified as inspired by Around the Town from designer Jill Finley of Jillily Studio.

How to make the house-block wall hanging

  1. Cut the fabric and fusible web

Cut the listed fabrics and trace or cut the fusible-web shapes according to the project instructions. Keep pieces grouped by House Blocks 1–6 to prevent similar architectural parts from being mixed.

  2. Piece Houses 1–6

Assemble each house with the pattern’s flying-corner style piecing and add the roof, chimney, windows, door and other block components. Because the six blocks differ in size and arrangement, complete each block as its own unit before joining the row.

What makes this project different from a piecing-only house quilt?

This design requires both seam construction and surface embellishment. The six blocks are pieced, while lightweight fusible web and blanket stitching add separate architectural shapes. That combination gives the wall quilt more varied construction than a pattern made entirely from sewn units, but it also adds tracing, fusing and hand-stitching to the workflow.

Plan for the long format

At 21-1/2 × 53-1/2 inches, the finished piece is substantially wider than it is tall. It works naturally as a wall hanging or horizontal display, so reserve a flat layout area long enough to arrange all six blocks before adding sashing and borders.

Keep the appliqué supplies compatible

Use lightweight fusible web for the appliqué portions and black No. 12 perle cotton for the specified blanket stitch. These are distinct jobs: the web holds shapes in place, while the perle cotton creates the visible stitched outline.

Fabric context for the sample

The sample is made with Bread & Butter by Kaye England for Wilmington Prints. You can follow the same palette or substitute comparable quilting cottons while retaining the pattern’s tan background, colorful house prints, green and pink sashing, and brown floral framing.

Before you start

  • Confirm that your cutting quantities include the 1-3/8 yards of tan tone-on-tone fabric, 1-3/4 yards of backing and 30 × 62-inch batting.
  • Separate scraps and prints by house block before cutting small windows, doors and other details.
  • Test the fusible web and blanket stitch on a spare fabric pair before applying them to the finished blocks.
  • Measure the assembled row before cutting or attaching borders so the long edges remain straight.
