Australian graffiti artist Scott Marsh’s “The Dutt Plug” was a satirical mural depicting Peter Dutton as a sex toy. PerthNow reported on 30 April 2025 that it appeared in Darlinghurst, Sydney, just days before Australians were due to vote. The title’s crude pun on Dutton’s surname and the work’s campaign-focused caption made the mural an unmistakably political piece.
What the mural depicted
PerthNow described the mural as showing then Opposition Leader Peter Dutton as a sex toy. Its title, “The Dutt Plug,” turns his surname into an explicit pun. The report quotes Marsh’s caption: “Bend over backwards… just like your campaign promises.”
The same article reproduces further satirical copy attributed to Marsh: “Tired of scandals that don’t come with personal satisfaction?” and “Worn out from all the flip-flopping without any real stimulation?” It continues, “Then meet your new favorite backdoor deal: The Dutt Plug.” These are quotations as reproduced by PerthNow; the report does not independently authenticate the social post.

PerthNow published its account on 30 April 2025 and said the mural appeared shortly before Australians were due to vote. The report does not establish the exact date it was installed. Scott Marsh’s store identifies the original mural’s location as Liverpool Lane, Darlinghurst, Sydney, and lists a related vinyl sticker titled “The Dutt Plug”: Scott Marsh’s store listing.

How people reacted
PerthNow characterized online reactions as mixed and reported that activist and 2021 Australian of the Year Grace Tame praised the work. The article gives no counts, polling or other measure of public reception, so the reaction cannot be quantified from that report.
The mural and related works are different formats
The Liverpool Lane wall mural is distinct from other items using the same title. Marsh’s store lists a vinyl sticker, while Bald Archy lists a separate canvas work by Scott Marsh titled “The Dutt Plug.” That listing describes the canvas as spray paint, acrylic and enamel on canvas, measuring 100 × 165 cm, with A$5,800 displayed; price and availability may change. The listing is not evidence that the canvas is the wall mural.
